Smackdown Here Comes the Pain is THE best wrestling game ever made. I couldn’t get into any of the N64 wrestling games or that system as a whole. The graphics, the engine, the roster at the time, and the pacing of HCTP you just can’t beat.
We need a side series to the 2K games that has an arcadey feel like HCTP. Just give us 40 or so of the more popular/main-event superstars and a handful of legends. No need for a bunch of jobbers and NXT wrestlers.
HCTP and SVR07 had the perfect blend of realism and colorful graphics, which gives them a more timeless look. HCTP looks way better than SVR 05&06 even though its 2 years older and SVR07 looks better than other SVR games. Its just a lighting trick but it works so well.
I usually don't fully agree with someone's lists but this time I 100% agree with this order I still remember when I got Smackdown! for my birthday and being so hooked playing the Smackdown! games after playing so much of No Mercy and WCW/nWo Revenge. Man those were the days!

I think we all forget that something that made these classic games so special is that they were SO good that even non-fans played them. As for SD2, I can see why it's season mode would be a bit grating NOW...but at the time, you didn't really mind the battle bars. In fact I didn't even mind them so much now, I replayed another 4 years of SD2 Season Mode back in 2021 and had a blast with it.

Funniest thing about unlocking Fred Durst in JBI, you can also unlock the SmackDown fist arena in the game; by playing slobber knocker mode and eliminating over 15 superstars.
A major negative for Just Bring It, back then anyway, is that the save file takes half of an official memory card. I just stuck with the AKI games, Smackdown 2, and Def Jam Vendetta until HCTP came out which I somehow knew about ahead of time and bought immediately upon launch. Blood finally being included in a Smackdown game was a major influence on my decision. It still is, I have held off on buying Fight Forever because normal moves don't cause bleeding and bleeding caused by weapons is too over the top anyway.
Love the video but I have to correct you on one thing with Just Bring It. You actually can unlock the fist (known as the New Smackdown! Arena), by playing Slobberknocker mode with the Rock and getting more than 15 wins. It just barely must have got in because the nameplate is shared with the ovaltron arena. I am surprised to hear your thoughts about the Season Mode though. What about it (outside of the frustrating Battle Bars) made it feel like a slog for you?
Somehow never knew you could unlock the fist! That’s really cool, though I’d still argue it should have been included by default given it was the design on TV at the time. As far as Smackdown 2 goes, I think it does have good cutscenes and fun moments in the season mode, but the waiting with the battle bars and the constant long loading screens are really a deal breaker for me. @@TroyVaultmeh, you figure Just Bring It came out in Nov of 2001 and the Fist arena debuted just 90 days earlier. It's really surprising that they were able to fit that in as a hidden arena so close to release time in a pre DLC era.
Right, the Smackdown Fist arena debuted on August 16, 2001 through January 2008. WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It videogame came out about 4 months after the Smackdown fist arena debuted in 2001.

SYM number one for me. 95% perfect. The only problem with it, I just wish that you could put titles on the line in exhibition mode instead of just the season mode. WWF SMACKDOWN 2 was great but shame no Big Show or Ken Shamrock
Big show wasn't in smackdown 2 because of his weight issue he got sent to OVW to work on his fitness and Shamrock cut ties with the company to focus on his MMA career
@@Fentoris Still a silly reason not to include Big Show in the game. It's not like he went back to WCW. They knew he'd be back on the main roster sooner than later. He was in the Wrestlemania main-event that year.
For sure. It's a typical early PS2 title. Games looked so much better on PS2 about 3 years into the systems lifespan. Early and late releases on the system look like they're from different generations.
I remember playing here comes the pain season mode as undertaker and probably tried over 30 times before finally winning the wwe belt from brock lesnar in the beginning

The game was trash compared to Know Your Role which was released on much weaker harder. The latter had a way better and larger roster, actual season mode, and didn't take up half of your memory card.
When I was a kid, my cousin's boyfriend at the time gave me his copy of "Just Bring It". Since then, 20 years later, I've spent hundreds, if not at least 1,000 hours on that game. I haven't played the others but I want to! Funnily enough, as a kid, I didn't know WWF/WWE was a weekly tv show program, so when I found out in high school, I thought the TV program was based off the game, not the other way around xD Oh boy did I learn!
Honestly, the only things keeping here comes the pain from being the ultimate best in my opinion is Jeff Hardy being cut before game was released and the charaxter models have like a weird shine to them that looks like plastic :/ otherwise shit your mouth is a little more preferred for me.
First game I got with my ps2 was Just bring it. Saw the intro and got hype as shit. Lol then played it and still had fun. It wasn't perfect but I had great memories and matches. The 5 SmackDown Games were pretty rare as all 5 were really good games, and got better by each release (with the exception of Just Bring It!). Shut Your Mouth is the best of the bunch, Here Comes the Pain is objectively the better game, but Shut Your Mouth is my favorite. Although, I do like the chain wrestling physics of Just Bring It! It’s interesting that current day games can’t even match the look of Hogan in Shut Your Mouth. My only complaint in Here Comes the Pain is there isn’t the actual Madison Square Garden look of 2002 Survivor Series, I would’ve loved to see that in a video game. And it’s sad that the 2001 Raw arena seen in Just Bring It! Hasn’t made it to another Wrestling game since.

If you were in the IC, European, Hardcore or even Tag division, title matches were going on like no tomorrow.

SvR 08 and SvR 11 are pretty crappy on the PS2. I stopped playing those games after about 6 weeks, whereas I played SYM and HCTP for many years over the last 2 decades.
Man, I sank so many hours into Smackdown 5 with friends and siblings. It was almost perfect, but it did suffer from 1 fatal flaw which sometimes ruined multiplayer matches...that being that you could not break up submission holds. Could anybody confirm whether this was ever fixed/patched in any releases of this game or if we got stuck with this bug in a local release or something? Just since i don't ever really hear anybody bring it up.
@@MrAjking808Yeah, RAW 2 was a huge step-up in quality and had features that wouldn't make it into the Smackdown/2K games until many years later. The customization in RAW 2 was incredible. The gameplay was what let it down. I wish that series, as well as the Day of Reckoning series had continued on. I never liked the direction the Smackdown vs RAW series took. They focused on gimmicky new features while other areas of the game suffered. From Know Your Role in 2000 up to Day of Reckoning 2 in 2005 was the golden era for WWE games. I still return to most of those games. Everything from SvR06 onwards I only ever put 3-6 months into before getting bored. I think I played SvR 08 and SvR 11 on PS2 for a little over a month before I got bored and went back to SYM and HCTP yet again.
The character balance on hctp is a huge negative. Nobody ever mentions this. The fall off in stats from main even terms to mid carders is too steep. 90 percent of the roster is completely unusable
@@Bubba__Sawyer true, but some of the upper mid carders had too low ratings. Why are guys like Cena, Eddie, Mysterio, Orton, Batista, and Flair only in the low-mid 70s? Even main event guys like Austin, Rock, Undertaker, and especially HBK were way too low.
@@the757general2 If Lesnar was only a 91, their rating was justified. They were not as big as they became later on, and in 2003 Lesnar and Goldberg were far above the rest of the roster. I think the stats made sense very much. Flair was low because Flair was literally not even close to his prime, and lost to most people. Austin by this point lost to Rock, wasn't prime and was meant to lose to others asw. Undertaker atp didn't do big things, he lost to Lesnar, was not in the title picture etc. Orton was a mid carder at that time, Eddie wasn't above mid card there asw, Mysterio asw etc It all made sense at that time.
90 percent being unusable is the biggest lie ever tho, besides against Lesnar and Goldberg, you can use everybody equally and have a fun arcadey like gameplay.
And it was also the game that took the biggest leap from its predecessor. I still remember being shocked on how much better shut your mouth looked & played
Yeah. That game felt so weird in terms of what era it belonged to. Just Bring it just felt like an Attitude era game but Shut Your Mouth literally felt like it was in the midst of the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression Era transition.
Fridays after school, Godfather's pizza, and Just Bring It with my friends into the early morning hours. I'd give anything to have those days back. What a time to be a wrestling fan.
I remember buying a multitap for my PS2 specifically for the Smackdown games. Playing that 6 man Hell in a Cell match with 5 other friends was some of the most chaotic fun one could have
As someone who spent HOURS playing both of the PS1 Smackdown games, I can absolutely tell them apart by looking at match footage: SD1 uses thicker yellow letters for the wrestlers' name bars, while SD2 uses skinny white letters :D
@@robertl.wilson1199 low mid carders ? I’ll take hbk, lesner, goldberg, nash, flair, rvd, cena, orton, batista, rey, big show, booker, 90s taker over the guys you mentioned. Plus everyone you named can be created. Here comes the pain had a great creation suit for its time.

@@davidabrams6482 Yeah so they were all released under the same company
@@KiddsWorldEntertainment they still competed against each other because their own games came out around the same time
It was so much better when each game system had their own unique series.
Unlikely in case you mean Smackdown vs Raw because it’s PS2
This was one (of several things) that the Wrestlemania/DoR series had over the Smackdown series.
Yeah that was a major problem in matches with more than two players. One of the biggest reason why I prefer AKI's wrestling games.
Where’s just bring it?
PAIN is the best of all time. Period
you have good taste
CAUTION!
You sound like 616 entertainment sometimes
HCTP
Jbi>sd1!
Now rank the Xbox "Raw games". The list: 😐.....it's a tie. They both lose
Raw 2 is better
Aew is the best thing since no mercy. Wtf u talking about willis
That's a lie
Smack down vs raw 2011 is better
The character balance on hctp is a huge negative. Nobody ever mentions this. The fall off in stats from main even terms to mid carders is too steep. 90 percent of the roster is completely unusable
Yeah using guys like Lesnar or Goldberg made the game felt like it was easy.
Nah, it was realistic and made it a real challenge. Mid-carders _should_ struggle with guys like Goldberg and Lesnar.
@@the757general2
If Lesnar was only a 91, their rating was justified.
Orton was a mid carder at that time, Eddie wasn't above mid card there asw, Mysterio asw etc
It all made sense at that time.
90 percent being unusable is the biggest lie ever tho, besides against Lesnar and Goldberg, you can use everybody equally and have a fun arcadey like gameplay.
isn't that character you created mom from futurama?
Smackdown just bring it does have fist arena u gotta unlock it by beating slobber knocker with the rock
On Just Bring it you can unlock the smackdown fist stage
I remember being upset with just bring it within hours....
Smackdown Shut Your Mouth was a transitional period between the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era
@@awesomecocoapuff99Yea that's what he said.
You are thinking of Just Bring it. Shut your mouth was full on RA

Just Bring It had the ability to have 8 people in the ring at one time though, which was a feature I really liked
Yeah i wish SYM, HCTP and possibly the first 2 or 3 SVRs had that feature
My favorite match
Here come the pain and shut your mouth is the best
Same, not only that but SD2 does look just slightly better graphically.
Here comes the pain is the best I’m the smackdown series hands down from the graphics to the game play
'Smackdown 2' had the best roster, but 'Here Comes the Pain' was the best gameplay
What guys did know your role have that here comes the pain didn’t ?
@@MR.__G Tazz, Albert, Viscera, Gangrel, Taka Michinoku, Bull Buchanan, Essa Rios, just a few that come to mind at the moment but yeah there's a few.
If it ain't got RVD, it can't be the best
I can tell the diffeeence between 1 and 2. Also in the firsr sd game bubba had a confederate flag bandana
I'd put the original Smackdown at the bottom since it just feels like a demo for Smackdown 2
Yeah, there's really no reason to ever go back and play it over Smackdown 2, although the OST still jams 😝🤘
It really does feel like a demo for SD2, both games were released just 8 months apart from each other and even in the same calendar year I believe
Every Smackdown game was great ,better then all the 2K games that came out in the last decade, I’m not a fan of 2K games , they don’t make them games like they use to .

how are games 20 years old better than the crap and glitchy shit today
Yes the smackdown fist arena is in just bring it you have to unlock it !!!
