One reason that makes Taka such an incredible front man that people never really talk about is his ability to sing in nearly any position and maintain that crystal clear tone. He's able to run across the entire stage, jump off those raisers they have on stage, and even headbang so well that if you weren't watching the video you'd never know. During his performance of "Jibun Rock" live at This is my Budokan Taka is laying on his back with his feet over his head.

    • @keturatoussaint4283
      @keturatoussaint4283 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

It's also this ability that amazed me the most. He can sing like is sitting in his couch, when actually he's banging and running in every directions.

@@keturatoussaint4283 what I find to be truly amazing is that there are times you can see Taka getting so emotional it looks like he might break down, but he maintains that perfect tone. C.h.a.o.s.m.y.t.h. live at the Field of Wonder concert is a perfect example. The only time I've seen him break down was Nobody's Home Yokohama arena 2012.

@@Fatalistic_Viking Exactly! I also love the way he can be on stage like he's alone , like Pierce or Ecetera. And the next song he's so alive and smiling. How can you possibly change your mood so quickly???He gets in the song and out of it in a blink of a eye.

Thank you for the great reactions! I've often wondered why Taka's voice is so powerful but gentle at the same time. It seems to me that his voice isn't just a sharp, thin line, but rather a broad surface with various sound grains beautifully layered over it, in my opinion. His voice is always heart-touching.❤

Really enjoyed this one, you guys. Thanks. (I sent you an email btw-- Hope you can read it as it's a bit time-sensitive.)
Your analyses are always so insightful and fun. I'm glad you enjoy the band's diversity. They really excel at whatever they decide to put out.
I watched this yesterday but I'll try to write out the thoughts I had while I was watching.
We are - Normally Taka's performance of this song is cleaner. His voice is more raspy here because he was sick. Yes, that's what he sounds like when he's sick LOL. I actually think this is the best performance of the song though because that raspiness just sounds more raw and gives the song more emotion.
Make It Out Alive (live) - Taka actually messes up the lyrics a couple times here. That's how you know it's definitely live hahaha. Taka messing up lyrics is not uncommon; we love him for it. It's a reminder to us that he's a human like the rest of us🤣
Let Me Let You Go - Isn't the instrumental break just awesome? Needless to say, that isn't in the studio version. I love how they often add an extra oomph to their live performances. The keyboardist is Gakushi. He's technically not part of the band, but he's toured with them several times and I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to see him on tour with them.
Deeper Deeper - Watching Richard watch Taka scream at the end was so funny. I was thinking to myself, "Wow, he's totally falling in love," and then immediately after Richard professed his love for Taka hahaha. The music for this song was written by Ryota and Tomoya. The two were having a session late at night when Ryota randomly played those opening notes. It caught Tomoya's attention and he was like, "Play that again!" Did you notice how in sync the crowd always is? They know when to jump and shout in unison. It's great.
Heartache - One thing I love about this band is how they can re-arrange their songs in so many different ways. This is one acoustic version. They've got another acoustic version that's different at their acoustic concert, Day to Night Acoustic Sessions. The original version is a really nice rock ballad (check out the performance at 35xxxv Japan Tour). Their performance at Luxury Disease Japan Tour is my favorite though. They're always able to tweak their performance or arrangement that makes the song sound totally different. It's an amazing skill, and I feel it is one that is often not talked about enough since a lot of reactors don't listen to multiple versions of the same song. You should really check out multiple performances of the same song sometime. I think "Deeper Deeper" at Day to Night Acoustic Sessions will blow you away at how drastically different it is from the original you saw at Yokohama Stadium.
When They Turn the Lights On - No doubt Queen-inspired. All their albums since 35xxxv have an all-English international version and a Japanese version where the songs contain a few lines of Japanese. There is one line in Japanese at the end of this song and the song is the same on both the Japanese and international releases. Taka has explained that this was inspired by Queen, and I believe the song he specifically mentioned was "Las Palabras De Amor" which has Spanish lyrics in it. (I can't remember which exact song he mentioned, but I know it was a Queen song that included non-English lyrics.) Taka said that he hopes overseas fans will learn the Japanese line and that they will sing it back to the band one day at concerts outside Japan.
Clock Strikes - I don't think I need to try too hard to convince you that that long tone feels like an ETERNITY, especially when you witness it live. It's kind of like a game to Taka, to see if he can outdo himself. I always pull out the stopwatch on my phone at concerts to see how long he goes. He consistently hits 30 seconds. It's amazing.
Sorry, long comment is long, but this was a long video, so you can't blame me haha. Richard, I think the band's latest album Luxury Disease would be a good place for you to start if you want to buy the band's albums. FYI, the title "Luxury Disease" is the English translation of the title of their first album, "Zeitakubyou." After releasing a couple albums that were more on the pop side, they went back to their roots and combined the new things they learned through pop with their original rock sound to create something new that is still uniquely ONE OK ROCK.

Taka is like an athlete. He is very concerned about his health to sing and perform at the concert.
    He is the professional vocalist.
(should be a new role model of rock star,I think)
As you said, world is not fair, but I believe they'll make it someday.

Ugh, here I am again. Crying over One Ok Rock videos.
I saw them live last year in Prague. Since then, I attended 5 other concerts (k-pop fastival, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, The Rose, Eric Nam). Their show is still THE BEST CONCERT I have ever been to.
It wasn't just because of their talents and great music but also the interactions with the crowd.
I think we are super lucky that they held the concert in such a small venue (around 700 people) and since I was in the very first raw, we could literally touch the stage. So many people dmed me how lucky we were to be this close, considering how famous they are in Asia.
I really hope they'll gain more popularity in other parts of the wrold because they are just insanely talented.

Since we always talk about how Taka's tone is always perfect you should really check out the one performance that he's so emotional that he's not as perfect as we used to. But his squeaks, crowd and pure raw emotion fits the song because of how personal the song is to him. The song is Nobody's Home live at Yokohama arena 2012. The song is an apology to his parents, who are at that specific concert, for the time in high school when Taka got into a huge argument with his parents it's the career in music he wanted to pursue. His parents are very famous singers in Japan and they wanted him to pursue a career in the same area as them, while he wanted to pursue a career in rock. This caused things to get so bad that Taka ran away from home and his parents disowned him. They patched things up and at the end of the song he emotionally yelled out to them "I love you guys". If you watch the end of the concert you can see Tomoya consoling Taka. I've been a fan for a decade now and I still get emotional and tear up myself nearly every time.

actually, in the netflix documentary he tells the story and it wasn't that. His parents discovered alcohol and cigarettes in his room and confronted him about his behaviour. That's when he basically ran away from home and worked at a restaurant.

    • @Fatalistic_Viking
      @Fatalistic_Viking 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@Xia-hu There's much more to the story than in the Netflix documentary. The alcohol and tobacco he mentioned in the Netflix documentary was what pushed his parents too disown him at the time and him running away from home, but that wasn't what caused started his his relationship with his dad to get so horrible, his rebellious actions and depressed mood. And no it wasn't depression, just feeling lost, and a lack of confidence. Taka's Dad didn't want him in the entertainment business because he knew how difficult it was to succeed since he went through such an ordeal. He also ran away from home at the same age as Taka. The problem was that Taka's grades weren't that good in school, which is why his parents made him go to cram school everyday after school for a year, as he mentioned in the documentary. But playing rock music is what helped him deal with everything, and at 16 I'm sure you can understand why he started to act rebellious. And to give you an idea of how bad his relationship with his dad then when his parents divorced he took his mom's last name. He was getting tired of people referring to him as Moriuchi's son. But even without knowing all of this Taka does pretty much explain a lot of what happened when he wrote Nobody's Home. The statement "Did you realize when we broke apart, I didn't know what to do and still regretted it? My parents dreams and my dreams would never line up".

    • @ranga1cat
      @ranga1cat วันที่ผ่านมา

I think it’s also important to point out that Taka uses aishiteru and not suki for love. Which is not used as much in everyday conversation as it is much stronger in its meaning. Basically it conveys intense devotion beyond everyday use.

I really like the choice of songs. It has a variety of it. Wanna extend my gratitude and taking up some time, almost 2 hrs, to dig deeper to OOR's music. Thankyou ☺️
Also, about Taka's discipline to his vocal/throat, from what I know, he stop smoking when he noticed that it affects his vocals. He disciplined his self to be healthy and for him to be able to perform that long on their concerts. Also, I read it before that, he actually ran on a treadmill while singing. He usually running around, jumping, head banging and so on that can hinder him to sing all throughout the song or on their concerts. That's why if you guys noticed on their live performance, he still able to sing all the lyrics of their songs while jumping and so on because of that practice of him in treadmill.

You have officially joined us as we fanboy over Taka ❤️Although you’ve commented/dissected/analyzed, etc, I’ve not heard you (or any reactors for that matter) talk about how seamlessly he switches between English & Japanese - just another amazing thing he does! Thanks again 🎼🎤

I'm Japanese studying English by myself. ONE OK ROCK is one of my recent favorite rock bands and I've recently listened to their songs to enjoy and learn English. I'm really glad that you reacted to this band. I enjoyed this video to realize how wonderful this band is ( and to practice listening lol)
Anyway, I really appreciate you from bottom of my heart! Thank you very much!

Taka from a 2018 interview in Singapore, addressing OOR and American audiences:
..."There is that very strong, significant ‘away’ feeling,” Taka said of performing to an American audience. "We felt that most especially when we were touring America as the opening band for a couple of American acts. It felt like we were always being tested on stage,” said the 29-year-old, who grew up listening to American rock music.
Even on their first American tour, Taka said that “it wasn’t exactly rainbows and butterflies for us either”.
“The American audience naturally thought, ‘Why are these Asian people doing rock music and performing on the same stage as the rest?’ We felt that hostility, from the looks that we got and the atmosphere."
He admitted that the band “unconsciously drew a line between us and the American audiences, just like they probably did for us as well”...

I highly recommend the making of Renegades by One Ok Rock with Ed Sheeran! They show the process of creating the song and recording bits in a studio with Ed and Taka.

Thank you guys for reacting to all these songs. One Ok Rock is one of the best rock bands worldwide nowadays. I'm a brazilian fan, so, I'd say they probably have fans all around the planet that enjoy many of high quality songs they make. So, f*** the 'industry', they are the same everywhere and, despite them, we still can get good music through internet.
    Thanks again!

omg I had such a fun watching this! I’m glad you got variety of songs to react to, so you got to know the versitality of OOR. Can’t wait when you’ll react to at least a couple more! (I don’t expect yoi to react to all of their 150+ songs xd but I can’t name a single song that is bad xd it’s a scale from good to great xd)
You should react to ‘Neon’ but I cannot decide: either performance from Manila, it’s a fan cam, but a good one, but you can see them in less polished version + how they deal with broken equipment xD OR Neon from the oficial dvd (from Japan) bc it’s such a great performance and song xD
Also Vandalise (live or studio jam), Good Godbye (live at Saitama Superarena) for Takas angelic voice, Werever you are (a classic.) (I recomend version with Tomoya on the piano) - and an instrumental. just type ‘one ok rock instrumental’ (any but I recomend from Yokohama or Luxury Desise tour) - klick any, and thank me later. xd
If you wanna see them behint the scene, in rehearsing, how they work together, how they plan and prepare for a concert - you should rly check out their documentary on Netflix ‘Flip a Coin’! They have a documentary with every major tour, but this one is quite new and easly accesible :) I would love to see you react to it, your opinions on all that, I love behind the scene peak from my fav artists and I’m sure you like it too :)
But if that’s too long for you, OOR have a several mini documentaries, like ‘making off save yourself’, ‘making off renegades’, US tour mini docu, Asia tour etc :D
And ofc OOR debutes everything on top of the charts in Japan but internationally, well I know at least Renegades debuted on number 9 word wide, so they got into top 10 xd but the rest of it, I don’t usually follow the charts xd

If only billboard is really fair and no political things happening there, there are a lot of artists who deserved to be on top 10. I just wish One Ok Rock should be recognize in the whole world. Well for us asians, we're not missing out!!! Hahahha😅

You guys make everything more fun!
At the moment there are only three artists that somehow are not capable of making songs that I don’t like:
    - Dimash
    - Electric Callboy
    - One OK Rock
The key to all three (for me) seems to be great skills as musicians (in different areas) and variety! 🥰🔥
