Yes Lois Collinder is really showing her acting chops in these past few episodes both serious and comic. Meg goes through the wringer yet again. Geez, that woman never gets a break.
I loved the scenes with Alice and Lexie, especially when she was rubbing her back and helping.her relax. She would make a wonderful friend. And she's not really a bad looking woman IMO. I saw her in a video with Gerda Nicholson and if I'm not mistaken, Kate Hood wishing everyone a Happy Christmas a few years before Gerda passed away. Lois looked very pretty.
@@sheriheffner2098 Jane Clifton who played Margo Gaffney once remarked that because of the show the women could not wear makeup and make themselves look attractive. Then she said," but we're all very attractive women". I couldn't agree more. All of the women in the series with maybe an exception here or there were attractive women in their own right.

Lurch was as cool as a cucumber and just took control. Brilliant.

Funny how Lurch is the only one with a cool head and who knows what she's doing during the birth, even tho Loreli and Nancy have already been there,done that and gotten the t shirt. If she ever gets out she could have a great future as a midwife lol.

Nancy calling out for Moran and Rita calling her a dick was quite funny. Great being able to binge watch PCBH online as and when I feel like it btw. I remember taping it back in the day cos it was on late on a schoolnight, and being restricted to 2 episodes a week.
I think that Nancy said Moran by accident then Rita calls her a dick, maybe the producers wanted to keep that rather than do a second take. Who knows, lol.

I think if she'd won custody of Shane she would have been more stable and a better person. Joan is one tragedy after another and all that's left is a bitter unhappy person.

Joan is a lot like Vera. Both are socially awkward, etc. All she needs is someone to love her.
That's the best thing Anne has ever done giving Lexie early release
The Kath Maxwell character is portrayed quite deeply, where they show her crying during the birth of Lexie's baby... obviously from the deep underlying pain of her own experience with motherhood that has seen her turn into a complete witch after being given a life sentence for her mercy killing. The actress who plays her really gets into the role, and the writers have developed Kath into a really multidimensional character.
The writers had been so nice to Meg for the past 100 episodes or so. No deaths, traumas or other tragedies since Dennis was paralyzed.
Dennis wasn’t paralyzed. He got shot in the leg.

I couldn't stop laughing when Lexie screamed for Rita and Rita tossed that cig over her shoulder and took off running.
Nancy cracked me up in this episode... the way she told Rita "not too hard, we don't want (him) to lose consciousness!" Then she clobbers Rodney from behind and proceeds to open up cells with his keys! So delinquent of her! LMAO 🤣
Well, I never cared for Dan, but to be honest, that had a lot to do with the fact that I can't stand the actors's voice. He always sounds as though he's trying to swallow a plum. However, what sort of a creep moves in with his ex only to tell her he's "met somebody else"! Love Ann's dignity though :)
Dan lacks a personality, he's perfect for Anne and her beyond dull out of prison storylines

Merle and kaths speech .. when Merle tells Kath she's been fixed so she can't have a baby... absolutely heartbreaking scene portrayed brilliantly by two of the most "real" characters in the entire run of the show.. on first viewing... as a kid I thought merle was a stupid and bad actress.. but as an adult I am amazed how nuanced and prepared she was jn this role.

Amazing Lexie is up and about immediately after giving birth. I could hardly walk! My jaw dropped when I saw Joan putting her hand lovingly on Lexie’s shoulder.
I did as well with my second... in fact they had to tell me I had to have a wheelchair to go to the postnatal ward and I wasn't allowed to walk like I wanted to
After Bea left Sonia was Top Dog, followed by Minnie, Judy, Myra, Reb, Myra again, Nora, Lou, Rita and now Kath.
But I think you can sort of split the series into 3 eras...
The Bea Smith era
The Myra Desmond Era
The Rita Connors Era
rayman760 Totally agree with you on the Top Dogs, but I've always seen PCBH in 2 halfs. Erica Davison as Governor, then Anne Reynolds era.
In between Bea and Myra, you had Minnie, Judy Bryant, and Reb, and in between Myra and Rita, you had Nora and Lou Kelly, but I suppose these are smallish eras.
Don't forget Clara Goddard and Antonia McNally from season 1. Both of them has short, but very entertaining stints as top dog. lol
Nora was a decent principled top dog tho a bit too laid back, more of a wingman really.

Here here. Lurch always gets a load of stick and is the butt of most of the jokes in the prison but she proved her metal in this episode!!! Well done Lurch!!

About 15 years ago Cleanaway used to collect the household refuse where I live in England. I worked for our local authority at the time, so was always on the phone to the head chap at the local Cleanaway office to get them to go back for missed bins.
It baffles me to no end that the ambo guys didn't take Lexie to the hospital as well as the baby. I mean she just gave birth for goodness sakes and she would need to be checked over as well as the baby especially it being premature.This scene made absolutely no sense to me at all. And to add to that they got Lexie sitting her butt on the back of a chair when her nether regions just got torn apart a day or two earlier from giving birth. Umm ... ok then.
It's not necessary for the mom to be taken to the hospital. The only reason that Moms are kept overnight is because the baby must have PKU testing at 24 hours, otherwise a Mother giving birth with no complications can leave the hospital immediately. I showered an hour after my 1st one, so not everyone waddles like a duck afterwards.
If that baby is premature I'm the Prime Minister ! What a gorgeous lil bloke though!

Great episode. Scott Wealands, who played the baby, also appeared in Neighbours at the same time, doing more or less the same thing as this episode if you know what I mean. Of course, he is retired from doing that these days, but he was such a good ad-libber at the time!

I thought Neighbours didn't start until after Prisoner finished. I don't know, I don't watch Neighbours.

who else thinks joan can actually be okay outside of prison. like when she had that kid. and when her farther died
With Andrew too, she behaved like a decent human being.
She seems bitter towards some prisoners for hurting people she loved, but can be a good person.
Not me. She’s a sociopath. She makes attempts at showing compassion and emotion but it’s strained and awkward for her because she’s dead inside. The one time she got upset with that kid Shane she slapped him silly. Anger and violence is what she knows. The only time she’s herself or feels comfortable in her skin is when she’s at the prison. She’s pretty much a prisoner herself.
You will see Joan be tender with another kid soon. If I remember correctly, Kath and Merle try to escape but Kath gets injured and she tells Merle to go so Merle escapes and she befriends a young boy and when Merle is recaptured, she tells Joan about the boy and that she won't be there to meet him so Joan meets him instead. Obvioiusly I have seen it all before many years ago but now I am watching it again. 44 episodes to go until the final episode and believe me, it's a good one.
Lexi: " I don't want it now" Hahahaha! Just a tad too late to decide now :-)

Alice was brilliant!!! Just love her more and more as the series goes on. I laughed so hard and loud when Rita got Rodney in a chokehold through the bars.... he's such a slimy weasel it's a shame she didn't choke him! Awww Merle - is that the mystery thingy for Alice you just made off with? I need for Reyno to come to her senses and throw Dan's unfaithful confused butt out of her house. If he needs somewhere to stay then let him go to the other woman. Ferguson actually had a tender moment with Lexi at the hospital and ... I still can't stand her. Or Lexi. Poor Meg and Marty - I hope that Marty is very much alive.

The baby probably wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible in case Lexie did any more stupid stunts, got into fights or took more drugs! Kid deserves a medal.

I love that they actually let the baby live, for one. For another, I love that they used a real newborn (and that they have in other episodes) because tv shows and movies these days show a character in labor and out comes a 6 month old that they show on screen for 10 seconds. Makes it so unrealistic. So, I like how Prisoner made the birth seem more realistic.

Uncanny scenario: My mum left me in hospital hours after having me. Her name was Alice. And I love how Rita, Lurch, Nancy and Lori and Lexie are close, almost like family. xx The Pringle's make me roar laughing. Even Joan is bearable.
Great episode, sad for Meg Morris losing her son in the bush fire. She has had a lot of tragedy in her life. Such a lovely caring lady, Joyce and Anne Reynolds are great as well.
Lexie looks gorgeous in her final episodes... finally she had her hair and makeup done properly to enhance her beautiful features!

That was the largest looking premature baby I've seen lately. I know a girl who was only 1 pound at birth and she is 17 now. A tiny girl still but she's smart as a whip and she starts her final year in school. Lexies baby is sure a cute little fellow.
Instead of shouting Rita or Officer, perhaps shouting Lexie is in labour would have helped

That's not true. I'm a doula and have children of my own. If there's no tearing, a considerable number of women walk and sit normally immediately after birth. Especially when they're young. Not to mention she's absolutely wearing an 80's nappy for bleeding, which would be padding. Women are released from hospital up to 6 hours after an uncomplicated birth.
@@Laladust Back in the 1980s mums stayed in the hospital for three days and even now they come home in two days. I couldn't imagine pushing a baby out of my body and leave the hospital with a newborn in tow in just six hours.
@@sheriheffner2098 Everyone's different. I'm a doula. I see birth nearly every day. I've seen women bounce about on the bed after an un-medicated, 9lb baby birth and I've seen women unable to walk even weeks later.

As for Alice who I vowed I could never like (even though I had seen these later episodes where she is great) after she done something unforgivable to a fellow Prisoner way back (I forget the details now) and Kath in the last handful of episodes having turned into an utter monster, well, I guess this episode throws all that out of the window. Nothing like a new life hey 😊

Has anyone else here noticed in the second half of the series Wentworth didn't have a Receptionist like in the earlier episodes?
More than that I notice the corridors have believable lighting. The beginning of the series the prison had a skylight running down the corridors.

Dan The Man's Hawthorn-colours dressing gown at 21", never noticed that before. Made me think of the responses he could have made to Anne when he said Helen the nurse isn't particularly pretty but also isn't 22.
If it was the early days, he should've said "She looks nothing like Mick Nolan", but as it's 1986 the line should've been "She looks nothing like Billy Duckworth".

Danny boy! You have got some nerve! Try to move in with Ann, then tell her you're seeing another woman. Throw him out on his bum Ann! LOL! A Heifer! When my niece had her baby, they asked her if she would like to reach down and pull him out whilst he was coming out. She did. And she tried breast feeding, but she couldn't do it for some reason, They had to buy some formula, she even tried a breast pump, but it still wouldn't come out. That's sad for Merle ) : She would be a good mother. Although she would probably need someone to help her raise the child.He sure is a beautiful baby! But a preemie? And he looks pretty healthy to me. Why aren't they taking Lexie to the damn hospital too? She could start bleeding and die! That's what happened to my Mum's birth Mum she died after having a baby when my Mum was only five-and-a-half.
