    The efficiency of American Pharoah's stride was amazing, his stride angle was measured at 112 degrees--which is the highest among the Triple Crown champions.

    I was impressed with his floating canter before he was turned lose. I don't think he ever touched the ground, just floated.

    He was so good until asked to run. And then the way he got that back end under him and bounded away was unbelievable.

    I remember watching this a few years ago when I'd got re-interested in racing since AP came along and thinking "holy shit". Even people who have no idea about racing get that feeling when you watch him just take off like he's nitro-fueled and then that insane stride coming down the straight-just looks paranormal

    Literally floating. Justify doesn't float, he rumbles like a freight train.

    This is an amazing video. You get to see American Pharoah for the first time ever on the racetrack. Then he wins the Belmont Stakes.

      +Laurel Cook Not thoroughbreds. Bred to mature fast. Though admittedly it would be better for them if they waited.

      Not necessarily so,the latest studies show that exercise at 2 years old can be beneficial in that it encourages denser stronger bone.Of course there are other issues that need to be taken in when racing these young ones..

    • @gayleputt
      @gayleputt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two is very young...but they are raced at that age. Follow the money......

      Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses are raced as two-year-olds.
      Many or most Thoroughbreds are broken to saddle/ridden in the late summer or autumn of their yearling year. I assume racing Quarter Horses have a similar schedule.
      Standardbreds, the trotting and pacing harness racers, also start racing at 2.

    no horses can be ridden by age 2

    • @gayleputt

      Yes, they do but perhaps they shouldn't. They are not fully mature until 4-5 years old.
