Used to fish a canal on the orange co. Las Angeles Co. Line next to the river that was a cooling channel for the power plate. Had all kinds of salt water fish. Spotted bay bass, halibut, white Sea bass, turbot, and many more.@@FishingWithJRome
So jealous of CA fishing. Every time I watch a video it looks like a blast. It's just windy and cold here on the east coast. Living vicariously through you my friend. Fish on!!
Thank you for sharing your set up. If I am not wrong you go to Long Beach. Lately Long Beach has had a lot of problems with contaminated water. Rain run off. I have never kept anything from Long Beach. Youre still here so it must be ok lol.
Thanks for the support and yeah Long Beach doesn’t have the greatest waters. However, they do test it regularly and list the fish and amounts that’s safe for human consumption. There’s ppl who’s been eating fish from these waters for decades who are perfectly fine. My suggestion just like with any and everything now days, you want to have it in moderation!
Would 14lb mono be too heavy..its what i use for striper in NorCal freshwater but I'm gunna be visiting SoCal and wanna try some surf without having to invest in separate gear if possible
@@vgee3926 it’s not that it’s too heavy because I use 15 lb test FluroCarbon leader but you won’t be able to cast out as far with straight mono. It’s better to use braid with a FluroCarbon leader in my opinion because you’ll be using lighter tackle and still wanna cover as much area as possible.
8:54 now. "Hollobit" , what is that? Are you saying halibut? Flattie is also ok. If you want to catch fish ditch that rig. Get some weighted hooks and some of the small rainbow rubber baits. That way you are on the bottom not midwater with your sinker dragging the bottom. It seems like you like 'pancakes' and you'll find plenty on the north side of the jetty. Pancakes galore! A batch of turbot would be much better than no halibut. On a boat or tube you can use multiple hooks.
Yeah I was saying halibut sarcastically lol. Also, I appreciate the support and suggestions but my set-up works perfect for me and I catch lots of halibuts 🙌🏾. Stay tuned for my next video 😉
Great action and commentary. Looks like fun
Thank you I appreciate it 🙌🏾. Definitely a lot of fun but nothing compared to how y’all do it in Northern Cali 😅
Great video & readjusting you drop shot on the spot. Awesome.
Thank you and I appreciate the support 🙌🏾
Top of the morning J-Rome. Looks like the hali are coming in... dang you let that turbot go they are real good eating. Tight lines
Thanks, I appreciate the support and yeah I’ll definitely keep it the next time 😅

I appreciate it bro and yeah there’s nothing like Cali except these expensive ass prices 😅
California Dreamin, fortunately for me, I was born three miles from the beach.

Forgot to ask, I use a braided line 15lb. Would it work to tie directly to the braid or should I use a floural carbon leader?
Yes, you definitely want to use a leader instead of straight braid. It changes the action of the bait and some fish are line shy.
Can you use circle hooks for the drop shot?
@@Twolegit2quit27 I’m sure you can as long as the plastic looks and swims natural as possible.
Great vigeo, but why you call em hollybit?
Thank you and I call them that sarcastically, I’m not being serious lol
where is the beach? long Beach?
@@monahsieh8358 Yes Cherry Beach in Long Beach, CA
is this in cherry Beach?
@@monahsieh8358 Yes!
What are u using on that line?
They’re called gulps and you can buy them from Walmart
@@FishingWithJRome I’m saying what kind of knot u using just wanted to know that
It's a Palomar knot to tie the hook and you leave enough of the tag end of the line to tie the weight. Hope that answered your question! @@phasary5526
@@FishingWithJRome thank u sir 💯

Is that an ugly stick your throwing?
Yes something I ordered online that had good reviews when I first got into surf fishing a few years ago. It’s a bit heavy though 😅
