I am using RouterOS 7.12. When Mikrotik is supporting FastTrack for IPv6? I have been waiting that close to 20 years. Now a perfectly good HEX-S can do on IPv4 1000 Mbps wirespeed to/from Internet, as it should, but IPv6 is still today CPU bound to around 250 Mbps. My corporate customers are not happy with a simple data transfer speeds to upload their 250 GB data sets, as the IPv6 speed over Mikrotik HEX-S is only 25% of the IPv4. For customers who needs IPv6, I had to replace their routers. For few customers I had to disable the LAN IPv6 completely. This is not modern world, not at all. So Mikrotik, when, or never?

@jschenard So true! I should easily change all otherwise perfectly good few thosand current HEX-S devices to CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ . There I have enough CPU to run the really crappy Mikrotik IPv6 forwarding. Splendid Solution! I have only used Mikrotik devices since RouterOS 2, so maybe I did not know that placing 800-2800 USD to new "proper and current hardware". WIth your Solution, I can get a measily 1 Gbps symmetric link to support a single occasioanl IPv6 transfer speed of that wirespeed requirement.

I am always bothered when somebody trying to sell VPN services makes ridiculous claims about internet security and invulnerability to “hackers”. You know plenty of people will get the false sense of security, thinking it secures “their internet”.

If you need VPN to go around region/IP block you can spin up CHR at one of cloud providers. P1 licence is not expensive and small VPS can be at the same price or lower than commercial VPN provider subscription. Only down side is, beside you setup all on your own, is you cant swap countries that fast, as you need to create new VPS instance in another region.

Sure you can, but it’s still money to spend. What if you could do it for free?

@@mikrotik nothing is free and if you think a vpn is secure with no logging, good luck with that

Hi, why not use Dynamic DNS (even the one included with MikroTik) to connect through Wireguard?

Sure you can, but only if you have a public IP

Zerotier, tailscale or twingate. I'm using twingate on raspberry pi and on a Linux virtual machine on my small Lenovo server. 2 machines because I have 2 ISP's and each machine is going through each one using PBR.

If your isp put you behind NAT, just call them, tell them you need to access your cameras from outside the local network, and can't do it while you are behind an ISP NAT. They won't refuse.

@jschenardand the other part of the world uses CGNAT. A public IPv4 for every subscriber has become a utopia

hi microtik, are you thinking about a mikrotik cloud for all your customers who don't have a public IP?

I'm a simple man: If you cannot trust your home network enough that you need a commercial VPN, you probably have bigger things to worry about.
