    Such a classic scene. I never get tired of it. The two male actors had small roles but they were perfect.

    This scene, just like the entire movie, is a shrine to great character acters. Just the way he says, "noo" and "uh huh" is enough to make you giggle! Throw in the engineers, the real estate agent, the guy that says, "we gotta blast cuz it's not a boulder, it's a ledge", and of course, Mr. Tesander the well digger.

    The thread...gets me every time. So brilliant! The writers captured the essence of women's detail in design, all in this one scene. (I am one so I can say that)
    Fell in love with Myrna a decade of performances prior to this one. Nick and Asta made sure of it. 💓🐶👨

      @@michaelmelen9062 YES that is a great example! She is a great actress, but I would put Barbara Stanwick first before ANY previous or future actress. : ) They both have humor and drama, timing down perfectly. Hey friend do yourself a favor and watch The Thin Man Series. Myrna partnered with William Powell is simply the best. And realize film was in it's infancy and silent work was all they had to go on to learn from. They truly got it right. ~ Great exchange w/you!

    • @michaelmelen9062
      @michaelmelen9062 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@b.walker5955 Oh yes. Asta is amazing, and a number of actors were in the series before they were stars. James Stewart, Gloria Grahame, and Ruth Hussey are two who come to mind. Tom Neal also (memorable in Detour). The repartee is wonderful, and it was unusual to find such a happily married couple in movies. Powell's marriage IRL to Carole Lombard had just ended when filming The Thin Man began.

    This scene is a hoot! That said, I have to give Myrna Loy's character props for her daringly varied color scheme. As someone who absolutely LOATHES the drab, soulless, "Instagram-ready" aesthetic that's so popular these days, it's kind of refreshing that see someone who doesn't want floor-to-ceiling gray or beige in every room!

    I'm having some rooms repainted, and I was trying to describe the shades of white I wanted in the hall. As I was saying a creamy white, not too stark, I burst out laughing and pulled this clip for the painter. My husband and I have been teasing each other about it ever since. I agree with the comment about the contractor and his uh-hunh and nooo. Priceless!

      Emory Parnell's acting is brilliantly subtle: Mr PeDelford is behaving with the utmost professionalism and congeniality, but you do see weary annoyance slowly but surely mar his facade, until Mrs. Blandings leaves the room. Then he finally succumbs to deadpan irritation, and the way he loudly spits out that cigar bit in frustration? Priceless!

      Peter Bogdanovich shares a memory of when he, with then girlfriend Cybil Shepherd, attended an event with Grant. Bogdanovich retells the story in his spot on Cary Grant impression, explaining that when they approached the ticket taker Grant said, "I'm terribly sorry, I forgot my ticket. May I get in please?" As the ticket taker was looking for his name, Grant says, "It's Cary Grant." "You don't look like Cary Grant," said the ticket taker.
