Flex Seal Works! Leaking Roof!

  • UPDATE: Flex Seal contacted me earlier this year (2020) and asked if they could use my video as part of a promotion about their product. I said sure. I made this video to show how it worked during a hurricane happening outside our house. Here's the link to the goodie box I just got this week- June 2020.
    • Flex Seal Sent Me Goodies
    I'm not endorsed by them, I just used it and it worked! I'm amazed and happy. We were having a hurricane outside at the time. I realize this is not a permanent fix, but I had to stop the water from coming through our ceiling. After the hurricane I set up and had the shingles fixed. Lots of you are writing me with comments of how much of a mistake you think this is. I showed this video as a test. It stopped the water from coming in. This was in October of 2016, and it's June of 2017 when I'm editing this information. It's still good. This worked. I made videos of fixing the drywall in the kitchen. It dried and turned into a stain. I sanded it, put Killz on it, and painted over it with the same flat white paint.

      @@KyaniMosaic_Crone I tried to fix my roof with flex seal and it sprayed in my eyes. It burned and I couldn’t see so I accentually fell off the roof and landed on my asphalt driveway. I broke my leg and 2 ribs, I now only use flex seal to spray on bees nests and spray paint my lawn mower. Also flex seal is super flammable so if you ever need to start up a trash fire just spray a little on your trash and strike a lighter to it. It goes WHOOOOSH so try to jump back as soon as you light it. I think it’s more flammable that gasoline. I got drunk and threw a can of flex seal in my Friday night trash fire and for got about it, I walked back over to the trash fire to throw some more trash in and that can blew up and covered me in boiling hot liquid rubber. I went to the hospital and told em how it happened and they told me that’s really reckless and ignorant but I don’t see how. Luckily I was wearing my winter coat when it happened so it only mostly landed on my face but I screamed like a cat with its pecker stuck in a hornets nest. I screamed so loud the neighbors thought one of them “retarded” people escaped that “camp” across the river and was over in my yard lookin for pop tarts in the trash again. I set a live electric wire on my trash cans anymore to try to deter those runaways from diggin in the trash. Every once in a while one of them boys gets off his leash and starts running around diggin in our trash lookin for sweets or shiny stuff. They sometimes get on that electric wire and the scream like a horny toad on the 4th of July. Flex seal 10/10 just don’t put it in a fire or spray it in to your eyes for attention.

      it wasn't a permanent fix.. just a patch to help while the hurricane was going on outside. Many people have wrote me and said that spraying it inside probably diverted the water somewhere else and possibly made a mess of the wood elsewhere... But as I said, there was a hurricane blowing on us while this was going on.

    Glad you got it fixed by a roofer, but everyone else be careful about diverting leaks, it won't just rot out wood, it'll create mold if left unfixed long enough. If mold happens you'd then need to be extra careful. And if you can't afford a roofer, just go up there with a pale of roofing cement and start pasting it where ever you need it, doesn't need to be pretty because noones going up there anyways, just needs to stop leaks.

    Thanks for the vid. Am all in favor of white elastomeric roof paint directly on conventional pitched asphalt shingle roofs for patches or do the whole roof. It works well. Patches don't dry, crack and leak again after 18 months like asphalt patches do. I painted Home Depot Henry brand/Lowes Black Jack brand (several other brands exist) white roof paint with a conventional 9" paint roller on a stick, least expensive grade directly on my conventional asphalt shingle roof in 2008. Applied about 4 coats to completely seal any gaps, especially where one shingle overlaps atop its downhill neighbor shingle. Used aluminum tape to seal bigger than 1/4" gaps or wherever bolstering needed, such as a protrusion from the roof or where a nailhead appears atop the shingle layer around the perimeter of the roof every 1-2 feet or so, then painted over the aluminum tape with white roof paint. In 2017, 9 years later, it's still going strong. No more missing shingles from wind damage. No more leaks. Much cheaper than a reroof, saves on cooling bills, seals leaks and stops new leaks. Also painted the drip lip around the perimeter of the roof so precipitation touches nothing but white roof paint til it hits the ground. Don't like white? Paint over the white with the exterior grade paint of your choice of color, including the same color as your old shingles if you prefer. As a test, painted an inconspicuous piece of the roof with the date in mid 2015 in a dark color. In 2017, it looks like it was painted on yesterday, with no visible wear. On the elastomeric white roof paint can label, it may say don't apply on shingles. Ignore this if your asphalt shingles are pitched conventional or pitched rolled and aged over 30 days. The white roof paint adheres very well when painted directly on the aged shingles.

    Often you don’t need to repaint….I’ve used this technique and it works. I filled a small mist sprayer with half bleach and half water. The key is it must be a fine mist. Mist lightly ; do not rub or saturate it..just a fine mist every day and let it dry. My stains even had brown edges. It’s amazing and I think I found it on u tube.I’ve done it on two occasions. Protect side wall if it is not white.

    WARNING SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THE LIQUID. I bought a can of the white stuff to use in my basement. There is not indication that it can not be used over old paint. My house is 100 years old, so the paint has been there for generations. I started applying the stuff with a roller. It says you can use a roller. As soon as I started the paint started sticking to the roller and coming off in chunks. I guess they could sell it as a paint remover. Okay, roller bad idea. I then decided to continue with a brush in the hopes I could apply it with out the paint remover aspect. Same thing the extremely old paint that had been there for around a century started sticking to the paint brush and coming off. I decided to try patting the flex on. What else could I do since parts of the wall were already destroyed. Well, it worked, but of course you can paint an entire wall by patting paint on at $35 a can or how ever much the larger size is. I allowed it to dry the amount of time that was mentioned in the can. Obviously, I couldn't leave the wall half peeled. Went to day to paint over. Guess what, yes I was able to paint the patches that were missing paint, but the patches with the stuff absorbs ALL THE PAINT so I am left with a multi color, wall with peeling paint and rubber stuff. Total disaster with zero solutions because they don't bother mention that it only works on a wall that has never been painted. What the heck am I supposed to do? Wallpaper the walls or maybe, just maybe, use spray paint in a basement with limited air flow. Worse investment of my life. I have been painting since I was 8 helping my dad and I am 70, so it's not like I do know what I am doing.

    • @StuffIHeard
      @StuffIHeard  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Could be the paint, but if you saw how well that thing pulled out every layer of paint in a 100 year old house, you would do better selling it as a paint remover. LOL. Lets say it looks strange. I'm going to try a can of Krylon spray paint made for plastic, I could turn it into a graffiti mural if it works. Lucky, I'm in a good mood now, trolling idiots relaxes me. I don't advise this as a long time fix... this was a fix for the moment so water would stop dripping in my house ruining my roof in the kitchen below. It stopped the leak till I could get it repaired. Some fixes take proper care. If you need a new roof, that's just how it goes some times. Not saying you couldn't get it done yourself, or have a friend help. I had a hurricane happening over us with tornados pushing trees over all around us when we fixed this. It's in a series of videos. We even lost power while I was filming this.

Further comments show that the guy had a shingle issue, which will have to be repaired to completely fix the problem, or else it will just start leaking elsewhere. Try to be more positive. The nicest fix I've had from flex seasonal far is my air conditioning drip pan was rusted out and leaking into the ceiling. I sprayed 4 coats on all the huge areas of holes and rust and I've not had a leak in 4 years.

Grateful she wasn't in there at the time but what a hell of a thing to come home to. Broken glass & items from the attic, wet insulation and mold/mildew all over everything in her room

    • @StuffIHeard
      @StuffIHeard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, it's not a permanent fix. It diverts the water, this was used by us in a hurricane actively hitting us and blowing off shingle in a Cat 3 hurricane. Sorry about your experience. I am glad no one was hurt.

    • @AesthMed
