BSA 350 cc Model L engine circa 1930 strip & rebuild 16 Bent inlet valve straightened & checked.

  • I hadn't realized or considered that a valve might be bent in this old engine, as the valve seating faces looked very good, and there wasn't too much evidence of wear of the valves or their seats, but the inlet valve had quite a throw on it when spinning in the lathe. Some careful work with a hide mallet and a dial gauge did the trick, though, and this is something I have done before, even for my Honda CB500T, which has racked up tens of thousands of miles since, with no problems, although anything with much more of a bend might be beyond saving!

    Great engineering again paul it’s nice to see that you have the skill to use and repair the original components I would hazard a guess and say they were original a really interesting engine having much needed t l c !

    Wish I could pick up new valves for my 1930 BSA 250. But there is just no supply now as they were never as popular as the sloper. Mine are fitted with a wear cap, should these be?
