Despite the presence of GCC & church in fiji for decades; crimes and narcotics thrive. Poverty increases, st Giles mental hospital and prisons are full of itaukei Christians. This two institutions are really not very efficient and effective as we thought compared to other ethnic communities who are well behave and successful.
The problem is the way we embrace Christianity. We tend to see our Fijian culture, tradition, language and way of living as against our Christian faith. Most Islanders leave their villages or teach their children to leave the village to look for a better life(Western life). This is how they move to urban areas like Suva,Lautoka,Nadi to work 8hrs everyday just to pay mortgages & bills. They are so engaged in work& Lotu that they dont have time to visit their villages.Their children have no connection back to their roots and crowd up in urban area's without work or enough to meet their needs & want,so they get involved in other illegal activities like dealing with drugs to sustain their lifestyle. The other part is the parents who are not teaching their children our Fijian culture of respect, when to talk, behavior etc but we teach them more about been a good Christian 😂, The GCC also have a part in creating opportunities in the villages like farming and other businesses which encourages people to return back to their villages and use their land. The Western Wyt World has created a System where their media portrays their life, looks, food is better or Superior than others and we see what is happening to them in regards to drug addicts, homelessness & crimes..go back to our roots in our culture, way of living to be taught to our children if we need to progress
