    After watching this video, I purchased an HK3270 on Ebay with remote & user manual. The 3270 & 3370 seem to be different in that the 3370 is more powerful.These units have 2 features I really wanted. A phono stage & the ability for it to be used as a pre-amplifier. I'm hoping it can last me a couple of years of garage use. If it breaks down, is there anyone reputable who repairs these units? Thanks for the video. It is a perfect demonstration of how persistence is just as important as knowledge, skill and the right tools.

    have owned this one for about +10 years. It is a great amp. You cant go wrong with it. It even has a sub out which, for the time it came out is pretty ok. I sold it it two years ago and went for a Yamaha Wxa 50

    I have an HK 3770. Great sounding and doesn't sound so "digital". Has a warm quality to it and it doesn't weigh a lot. Mine is made in GERMANY. Too bad HK got out of the separate component business. All Bluetooth components now. Bummer.

    Appreciate your video. I have a HK3470 that I picked up on an auction. The unit shuts down quickly after powering on. It will stay on if I don't hook up speakers to the left channel (A or B). Right channel is good. There are no stray speaker wire strands in the left channel connectors. Where should I start? Very similar layout, but there are three relays near the back panel.
    Thank you for any suggestions.
    Tom

      Hi, I would start with checking for any DC voltages on the speaker terminals with no load. That will tell you the health of the amplifiers. If the DC voltage is excessive (above 100mV) the amp(s) will need to be serviced.
      One thing you could do is inspect the bottom of the printed circuit board for cracked solders. If you find any, solder them back and see if that helps

    Just picked up an HK3270 super clean. Went though cleaning controls and getting somedust out. The only issue is the volume up/down dosen't reapond to the remote. The remote is sending a UV light when up/down are depressed so it has to be the volume control motor. Is there a cap that energizes the volume control motor that may be faulty? The green light illuminates on the knob.

    Hi
    I have the same amp. A few days ago it just got "stuck" on max volume and it cant be lowerd nither with volume knob or with the remote. Tried cleaning the volume knob (pulled it out and took it apart), but it did not help.
    I listen to radio mostly on it.
    Any ideas what else could be the cause?
    Thanks

      Hi Mr.B. The HK3270 is problematic by design in my opinion. Aside from that, there is a TONE BOARD that controls bass, treble, balance and volume. There is a dual op-amp on the board so it has active components. Without having this receiver on my bench to troubleshoot, I suspect a open ground on this tone board which is allowing full signal to pass through.
      There is a 8-pin connector and ground wire for this board. Check to see there is no cracked solders associated with the wiring for this board.
      If the MAX volume problem affects both channels then it must be something common like power supply or ground failure. If you have the interest, you can find the service manual at HiFiEngine to help you out.

    Would it make for a nice cheap pre-amp with remote and sub out ?

    • @TrevorsBench
      @TrevorsBench  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would, good idea. I'd gut the power amplifier first to save power consumption

    Hello, great video ! I got this HK on ebay 5 years ago. Everythings works fine excepted speakers 2 button... (no sound). I never tried to open it. Which simple advice could you give me ?. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Trevor, I have the HK3370 model and it not turning on, I did the Processor Reset and a complete reset to no avail. Should I take the unit to an audio repair shop?

    • @TrevorsBench
      @TrevorsBench  ปีที่แล้ว

      First step would be check all the fuses. If you find a blown fuse, try replacing it with the same type/value and see if that brings it back.
      If the fuse pops again it will need bench service.

    i have the harman/kardon hk 3270 rds, one od the 10k capacitors popped and its dried out. ive been wanting to change it but i also need to replace four resistors. the problem is i cannot find the values of those four resistors anywhere on the internet. ive looked through all the user manuals and i could not find it. i would really like for you to help me with this problem. i need the values of: R397, R398, R399 and R400. please contact me it would mean a lot to me. good day

    • @TrevorsBench
      @TrevorsBench  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After much searching the manual it appears R 397-400 are 10 ohm 1 watt resistors. These are hanging off the speaker outputs and provide high-frequency stability load to the amplifiers. They are wired in series with a 0.047uF cap which goes to ground
      The schematic shows the resistors but the parts list does not???
      Hope this helps
