    Gotta love sliding down those erosion piles at the entrances to abandoned mines! That green talc vein was interesting. Never have heard of green talc. Out here, the talc mines are all white - and very crumbly! Cool crowbar find. That frogging sequence at the end of the video looked intense. Outstanding production! A+

    • @ActionAdventureTwins
      @ActionAdventureTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      thanks! the talc here is a beautiful translucent green with black magnetite steaks and crystals throughout. and yeah the entrances to these mines that were made in softer material always seem to collapse into a pile. we have a lot of interest in the pile at 1:50 . maybe this pile could be dug out and the rest of the mine could be explored. let us know if you have ever attempted anything like this before we feel as though this one would not have been previously explored and would have a lot of artifacts inside

      @@ActionAdventureTwins I think digging out that collapse seems like the most likely way into whatever is left of the upper/non flooded workings of the mine, since it seems like that tunnel used to be the main haulage way. Also, those "collapses" look intentional - they don't even look like the other natural collapses in the mine, the material color is different.

      We get the green talc out here in California here and there as well, occurs with the serpentine we get out here..... well technically the talc is altered serpentine... or it could be the other way around, but I don’t think so.

    These are great videos, and they allow me to experience something vicariously that I would never do in reality.
    No doubt what makes it easier to watch is that your lights are so good. That somehow makes the environment seem less intimidating than it actually is. I keep having to remind myself that if you turned off those lamps then you would be in pitch darkness. You could wait for a few moments, and your pupils would dilate to maximum, but you'd still see nothing at all because there would literally be _no light_ at all. That's a rare thing, and unlikely to be experienced by anyone above ground.

    • @blefnefnef
      @blefnefnef 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just reminded me of something that happened to me about 15 years ago.. I was spelunking with a friend around this area of the world - a marble mine in jasper, Ga; one these folks know & have video of posted, actually. We each brought our phones, 2 headlamps and 2 flashlights - & everything died, during our (short) visit lol. Luckily, I knew the mine very well, & it wasn't too expansive.. We were both smokers at the time, and were able to work our way out of pitch black darkness like you described & back into pockets of daylight, slowly, by using our lighters, then the spark of the flint, for light; both of our lighters ran out of gas too lol. Preparation, preparation, preparation lol, & safety first.. Research the places you're going. Use PPE/ meters. Always go with a buddy. Always let at least 2 people (you'd trust with your life) know where you're going & when to expect you back & to contact proper authorities to organize a rescue if you arent back or at least havent made contact by said time. Don't be wreckless, & dont do anything that will knowingly probably injure yourself; dont take chances, especially if you're deep inside a place. Dems da rules lol. Pro-tip: always load up fresh batteries in your gear before going on an adventure like this, and always bring extras; more than you think you'll need. & That goes for food and water too. I understand why one would never want to go/get started; it can be a very dangerous hobby - but personally, I know I'll never stop, not til I physically can't do any of it any more. The thrill of it all makes one feel alive & let's one live in the moment :) exhilarating, in a word - & laying eyes on something beautiful, that few, if any, have seen, is a very special feeling. Seeing the artifacts/wreckage, and history & wondering what it must have been like for those working/walking within these places before you is a special feeling too. & I'm a paleontology/geology nerd; I love seeing the fossils, & stalgtites/stalagmites, & minerals/crystals. I'm glad these guys post the amazing content they do, & am glad they share it with the world, & that we are all able to enjoy it vicariously! Myself included! Theres some things I'd never attempt, that these guys do lol, they do some things they outright shouldnt, honestly. I'm glad we are all able to enjoy the ride without having to pay for the ticket lol. I know some folks who don't even like watching their videos it scares em so bad/gives em such bad anxiety! Sometimes when watching their videos I'll audibly say things like, "no!!!", or, "dont do it!!", & im the type who gets his shits and gigs doing things like this & have over 20 years worth of spelunking under my belt lol. Some of the ones where these guys are face first in water, crawling through gaps on their bellies, where they're scraping their backs on the ceiling - you couldn't pay me to do those lol. Some of the ones where the walls are still wet to the ceiling from the last rain, & flash flooding - same - you couldn't pay me enough lol. Everybody's got their line, & they definitely take some risks I never would. Gotta expect & try to prevent worst case scenarios in my opinion, safety first - & shit will still happen occasionally, like the story I laid out above, even if youre well prepared & trying to cover all your bases. I worry for these young men's safety a lot of times tbh, when watching these videos. I understand wholeheartedly why they do it every time though.. There's nothing quite like it :)

      yes it is common practice to seal them up to keep people out. sometimes they would just scrape a pile in front of a tunnel other times they would dynamite the whole front of the tunnel down

      we heard there was mines in this area so we did a lot of online research. we found this one after we found an old map with a bunch of mine locations on it on a document on google. just look around for old abandoned mine maps from the different counties you visit, once you have the name of a mine it can be easier to track down its location online

      @@ActionAdventureTwins I knew you had used them before. Glad you did. I think sometimes you take really borderline risks, especially squeezing along low water crawls. It worries me. I hope you'll dial that back a notch. I've had a lot of adventures, mostly rock climbing, and from my experience, things can go badly wrong. I'm still alive, but some would say I shouldn't be.

    Man you guys need to be super careful in mines like that with those big ass back packs rubbing the ceilings! I once got caught in a cave in for 89 and a half days! By the time i got out i had lost 3 of my fingers from digging my self out with my bare hands! Never again will i go in a mine again! Just think about that for a while...?

    Only you guys would look at a random abandoned shafts in the middle of the woods and think "I wonder if I could go down there?" I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie myself, but intermittent claustrophobia preludes adventures like this. Good on ya, though.
