I would say that Matt did not fill Avi's shoe as that is quite impossible. Instead knowing this Matt made his own shoe when he joined the band and has done a great job in his own right ever since.
I realize that Matt’s voice is completely different than Avi’s is. But he has such a uniqueness about him. He’s much younger obviously, but he has a mischievous smile. I love to hear him. Mr Grinch made me laugh out loud. I’m not a kid (70) but I can realize real talent.
Amen Amanda! When Matt first joined PTX back in ‘17, I felt so bad for Matt, due to the fandom’s criticism, complaining and comparing Matt to Avi, and some even whined, wishing Avi was still with the group. Mat has held his own and no one should ever be compared to another person. We are all originals, and we should be accepted as such.
I love the reaction when Mitch does the guitar solo with his mouth! The megaphone was just a prop for affect, when they do this live Mitch sings the solo just with his voice and yes it's a remote control couch. You should see the making off, it's phenomenal! Brian May has said this is one of the best covers of Boh Rhap he has ever heard! They waited six years before they attempted this one as they wanted to do it justice!
Matt Sallee came into the group but what you don't know is that he was a huge fan of ptx before joining. This shows me how God's plan is so perfect although it can take years to see it. They came to his school to perform and Mitch grabbed Matt's sunglasses and performed with them on. From then on he dreamed of being in PTX. As Scott says every time Matt steps on stage he is proof that dreams come true. If you are so inclined you might want to watch introduction to Matt Sallee. He went to Berkeley college of music and all of the band members say he works harder than any of them. He knew a lot of the arrangements but if he didn't know them he said give me until tomorrow and he would have them down. He also exudes joy constantly!! If you want the link let me know.
This is the original Pentatonix line up. The only change is when Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over as bass. Kirstin and Mitch are always changing their looks, but it is always them. Recommend their Rather Be, Come Along, and Amazing Grace.
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix video. They are amazing. In their 10+ year history, there has only been 1 member change. Avi, this bass, left in 2017 and Matt, joined them as their bass in October 2017. The guitar sound was indeed made by Mitch. The megaphone is just a prop. He does not use it to make the sound on tour. He does a great violin sound too. When the video came out, Brian May, of Queen, posted it on his social media with the message "Enjoy".
The megaphone is just a prop but there is a bit of distortion on his voice in the recording. Very little though because he performs it live veeeeery closely without effects. But they have said there is a small bit of distortion on the guitar part.
Consider with the beatbox, during "will not let you go (let me go)", Kevin is not just beatboxing, he's swapping it for singing harmony with Kristin and back. The agility of that... 🤯
I’ve been watching pentatonix for a while. This is one of the best versions of queens bohemian rhapsody. These guys have some of the best harmony around. They have the it factor. This is a great song.
I like the profound statement. They were intimidated by the prospect of covering this, especially Kevin. He really wanted to do the percussion justice. Mitch does a great job at his "guitar solo". However, he does it without the megaphone when they do it live. Yes...the couch is moving. They started making TH-cam videos 10 years ago with them sitting on a couch. There are about 20 "couch" videos. They have only lost Avi, the bass, in 2017. Matt Sallee took over. They performed in the Bahamas over the weekend, and someone taped it. If you want to see the first part of it...here is the link: (1) Pentatonix at Atlantis Bahamas April 16, 2022 - TH-cam. They do "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the end of this weekend concert, live. If you like, I'll send you the link when it is released.
here is the link to the part of the concert that has Bohemian Rhapsody in it from this past weekend....th-cam.com/video/ws3q9VoJX0w/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SabrinaPTXtacy
**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of WTF 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artist.
Hey, they started their career doing YT videos on that couch when they lost their music contract. They rode that couch to a successful artistic career. Of course it is moving.
Great reaction!, and yes there was 1 member change the bass, Avi Kaplan, left in 2017, and was replaced by Matt Sallee. All the other members are the same (although Kirstin and Mitch change their looks/style/hair so frequently some are confused into thinking they are new members).
🧡 Pentatonix ! What you restated from the reactor you referenced is so true. There is the original, from Queen, and then there is the original, from PTX. These fantastic artists took a classic and blew it the hell up - with vocals, instrumental impersonations, energy, and creativity. I never tire of seeing this performance. PTX is in a league of their own, a league that they created for themselves. I am a huge fan of another cover artist, Gabriel Henrique, who you have reacted to. I don't bring him up here to in no way compare him to PTX. I mention him here as a cover artist who I believe with more grooming could become one of the world's greatest cover artists. Far too many people rant about how he needs to perform original work and leave covers to others. To that, I always refer to the great PTX as primarily a cover group. SO many great classics have been produced over the years that it is refreshing to encounter someone like Gabe, with his extraordinary vocal gymnastics, and PTX with their outstanding talents, breathe new life into those classics and bring them out of the past and into the future in a uniquely reimagined form. Thank you for the entertainment !
Welcome back. Missed you. They loved Queen so much and really wanted to honor the original one and I think they did. Only one member change. The bass. Avi 2011-2017. Matt 2017-present. The rest of them Just change looks often but it always them. Lovely reaction
I personally think they added the microphone not for an effect but so that the viewer knows who is doing it. Without it, we would be tempted to assume they were doing something extra. The live version guitar solos sound exactly the same and without a megaphone. Plus they pride themselves on not using any assisting devices so that anything they do in the official videos they can do live.
There may be a tiny bit of extra either distortion or reverb on it in the recorded version just for it come through as clearly as possible, but it's definitely not the megaphone.
It's a megaphone...just so you know. There has only been one change. Avi Kaplan (the bass) was replaced by Matt Sallee. That's it...in ten years. Not bad. I've been a Pentaholic since 2012. "Somebody That I Used To Know" did it. I've been in love with them ever since.
Pentatonix is amazing and they were my first introduction to acapella music. I really enjoy your knowledge about music, i always learn something new or notice something new about the music from watching your videos. If you are interested in more acapella groups, might I recommend two groups: Homefree and Voiceplay. Homefree have more of a country music feel to a lot of their music but they also branch out into some different genres as well. For Homefree some favorites of mine are "Man of Constant Sorrow" "American Pie featuring Don McLean" and "Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan formerly of Pentatonix. Now Voiceplay is more theatrical, a lot of the members had worked for Disney and the theme parks in Orlando so a lot of their songs they wear costumes and have sets etc but they also do songs that are less theatrical as well, some favorites of mine are "My Mother Told Me" "We Dont Talk About Bruno" "Hoist the Colours" "Queen in 5 Minutes" and "Carry On My Wayward Son". Also the bass singer for Voiceplay, Geoff Castellucci, also has a solo channel where he does music on his own and some favorites of mine are "Sixteen Tons" "House of the Rising Sun" and "Aint No Sunshine"
I watched your PTX reactions last year and really enjoyed your musical analysis. Then you stopped PTX and moved on to more Indonesian / world reactions. I am re-subscribing in hopes that you will go back to regular Pentatonix reactions. Suggest that you react to one of their homophonic arrangements, with five-part close harmonies and no percussion -- "Run to You" (their original), "Can't Help Falling in Love" (Elvis cover), "My Heart With You" (The Rescues cover),
I'm so thankful you reacted to PTX again. Please please do more!! Mitch was asked in a Livestream they did how to do a guitar solo and he started to say well Iisten to guitar solos I guess but ended up saying I don't know I just WINGED IT!! Can you imagine? There is another great guitar but it's a bass guitar in one of their original songs called Never gonna cry again. Please please please at least listen to it yourself if you don't react to it. Matt actually does BASS GUITAR. I PROMISE YOU. YOU won't believe it. He said in a Livestream that he had to take 3 or 4 passes at it before he got it right. I tweeted him that I think most people couldn't do it in 1000 passes. It's a great song. I love your reactions. You might be interested in "over the river" from their Christmas album. Lindsey Stirling features on it on the violin and Kevin is celloboxing. It is EPIC even for Pentatonix!! Can't wait for your next reaction!!
@@GlassesKingdom awesome!! I cannot wait. If you want to see how well they really do work together and their arranging and recording process react to "recording of evergreen short film". They did their last Christmas album in two weeks and let a camera in to record it. Kirstins partner Ben recorded it. It's amazing as well. Please react to it. Caveat: you might want to react to "the prayer" first bc that might spoil it for you. Also we would so much rather you pause and talk then talking over the music. Also the copyright people like pausing too.
GENIUS !!!
I would say that Matt did not fill Avi's shoe as that is quite impossible. Instead knowing this Matt made his own shoe when he joined the band and has done a great job in his own right ever since.
very well said , i like that
I love Matt’s versatility and personality.
I realize that Matt’s voice is completely different than Avi’s is. But he has such a uniqueness about him. He’s much younger obviously, but he has a mischievous smile. I love to hear him. Mr Grinch made me laugh out loud. I’m not a kid (70) but I can realize real talent.

Producer: you can't perform Bohemian rapsody without a killer drummer and guitarist.
PTX:let me introduce you to Kevin and Mitch
😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Kevin and Mitch…. All of them are amazing.
The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC.
This is the original Pentatonix line up. The only change is when Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over as bass. Kirstin and Mitch are always changing their looks, but it is always them.

Love your reaction! I would love to see you react to "The Prayer" by them. In my opinion it's their best performance.
Just loved how you loved the PTX performance and relate it to the genius of Queen at the same time. PTX certainly is a second original!
I’ve been watching pentatonix for a while. This is one of the best versions of queens bohemian rhapsody. These guys have some of the best harmony around. They have the it factor. This is a great song.
It's been said before by many people, but it seems to be especially true for this song: PTX doesn't *do* covers; they do upgrades.
FUN reaction, Thanks!
Amazing voices and amazing reactor❤🇲🇨
It’s the harmony for me ✨❤️🎶 beautifully done , and when the base drops in .. wow!!
Yes, that was Mitch "playing" the guitar solo with his voice. And the megaphone was just a prop; it had nothing to do with the sound he produced.
THE Brian May shared this version on his facebook page!!! He called it a 'Great Version'!!!
IT really is a great one
I like the profound statement. They were intimidated by the prospect of covering this, especially Kevin. He really wanted to do the percussion justice. Mitch does a great job at his "guitar solo". No matter what song as you said they make it their own..but always somewhere there are sections that pay homage to the original..
Need a guitar solo...Mitch..."hold my beer". Beautiful homage to the band members..one shooting star for each of them.
The Grassi Guitar!!!
It’s just magical! Fantastical! The talent is beyond words! I’m blown away!!!❤️❤️❤️

My goodness, I really enjoy your PTX reactions sooooo much!
Mitch does a short horn piece to start their cover of “let’s get it on” the sing off competition 11 or so years ago
Hey, they started their career doing YT videos on that couch when they lost their music contract. They rode that couch to a successful artistic career. Of course it is moving.

There is a utube of the making of this video. Well worth a watch. Very interesting
Finally!!! Been waiting too long for PTX! 🥰🤘🏼
We don’t call them covers, we call them “upgrades”
Sincerely,

makes perfect sense
On of the best reaction to this song by PTX I've seen.
You need to see him do that live….Mitch’s guitar solo
The live version broke my brain so bad! 🤯 Incredible!
Yes, the couch did move. There is a Behind the Scenes video on the making of this which is very entertaining.
Loved this reaction 😄
🧡 Pentatonix !

Welcome back. Missed you. They loved Queen so much and really wanted to honor the original one and I think they did.
Only one member change. The bass. Avi 2011-2017. Matt 2017-present.

Mitch can do the guittar solo without the Megaphone, he does it live without. It´s only for the video!

Missed seeing you, great reaction! You really need to react to "The Prayer" which came out right before Christmas, so amazing.
Such creativity! Par for the course for PTX, I suppose. Thanks for posting.
