  • The crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border is turning one Arizona county into a deadly speedway for smuggling drugs and people. Investigators say the growing business in Cochise County is run by drug cartels, and that most of the smugglers are American citizens. CBS News' Kris Van Cleave rode with deputies who risk their lives chasing criminals.

People do not realize the seriousness of this issue because they do not live here. Ranchers have been murdered, our houses are broken into by people looking for food, weapons, etc. Cars are stolen, and property destroyed. Even wildfires have been started by these outlaws in an attempt to escape, or divert first responder's attention.
There are certain areas of Arizona we just do not go into because of the cartels and smuggling.
And while we live with this on a daily basis, there are others in the country who encourage this..

The long and short of it, our govt officials want the drugs and human trafficking to continue. If we can set up military bases and move thousands of tons of equipment, thousands of soldiers to other countries, we sure as hell could stop people and drugs from coming into this country. They don't want it to stop, plain and simple.
    Edit-
I think some people are misunderstanding my post, I am not saying we need military at our southern boarder. I'm just giving an example of what the US can accomplish when they want something done. Thre really isn't a physical problem they haven't been able to solve. Examples like putting men and women into space, building bridges, roads, buildings, etc.

Because you can't stop it with a wall. These cars don't climb. And all conservatives want to discuss when it comes to border security is funding and building a wall. A wall that doesn't stop struggling white kids, or rich college kids looking for a rush, from smuggling in people and fentanyl. There are better options to decreasing illegal migration and the drugs getting across, but conservatives don't want to listen and compromise. It's always, "our way, or the highway," so nothing gets done.

I just moved from there. It’s really bad. I watched a smuggler come over the wall once and saw two men in camo crawling through the arroyo. The mountains where I would hike, had signs warning of how dangerous it is to be out there because of human and drug smuggling. It’s sad because it is a uniquely beautiful area of the country. It’s also very weird that they closed all the checkpoints there. There used to be 4 so you couldn’t get to the 1-10 without having to go through a checkpoint. Now they are all closed.

A place where family trips to the Grand Canyon or camping shouldn’t come with these fears. We need to stop this now. We need to stand up. We need our voices heard. I live in rural Cochise County. I despise the current administration for its border policies, but even under past administrations the border was wide open. The Border Patrol has always left the rural stretches open, keeping their shiny cars on the blacktop roads where citizens could see them. Security Theater. If you take a 4WD vehicle out on the dirt stretches along the border (Geronimo trail east of Douglas is a good example) you can 100 miles through the desert along the border and not see a single BP vehicle. That has always been the case.

I agree. I lived in Huachuca City and I have l still have property in Pearce. I drove cab and street sweepers there and I saw some crazy things. I stopped driving because I couldn't trust any situation. Even legally driving for legal companies. But it's not new. It's been that way.

If Republicans wanted a secure border and strong country then they wouldn't continually undermine tax revenue and drive our nation deep into debt. They cut taxes for the wealthy at every opportunity then whine because we can't afford unlimited border protection.
Put the blame on Republican freeloaders that refuse to pay taxes for border enforcement.
Then there's the fact that Trump's sanctions on Venezuela are fueling the immigration.

This just speaks to a much bigger problem in our communities. If there continues to be lack of opportunity for people, especially the marginalized ones, there will never be an end to this. As long as cartels are willing to continue to bankroll poor and working class Americans, and corporations are willing to continue to refuse to pay people a livable wage, expect to see a lot more of these types of stories.

Lmao unfortunately the problem will not go away and will never go away they’ll just have a new smuggler and more product. What these guys are doing is a waste of time, and manpower. Think about it, if our government really wanted this to stop it would stop. They could stop people from crossing the border but why would they? This whole thing is a joke! I sit back and laugh. That’s what nobody understands! They need to seal that border up tight, and decriminalize most drugs, that’s the only way. Once we decriminalize substances these cartels will have no income it will destroy their infrastructure. But of course our government, CIA and other government factions WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN, they also have their hand in this. 90% of people fail to understand this. They’re making just as much money off of the situation as these cartel dudes it’s a vicious cycle that will never stop🤷🏻‍♂️ The war on drugs is a sham, it needs to stop, clearly it’s not going to work. They have already failed. They need to get rid of the DEA and the ATF

If you go to ANY other country on the planet and try to enter their borders illegally, being shot is the least of your worries. They will arrest you, charge you, imprison you, then when your sentence is finished you'll be banned from entry ever and shipped back to your home country to be tried and imprisoned there as well. So if you get shot at when trying to enter another country illegally, maybe think twice before trying again.
