It is! Like when he filmed Jeremy getting on his boat when they were on that river or dam in the USA. Also, when Jeremy pushed the tree out of the way, and someone said something about bringing your own elephant 😂😂 Subtle humour, and I definitely don't mean anything against Jeremy, please. I think he's a great guy and an awesome companion on travelling trips. They make a great team 😁🙋🏼♂️
LOL all the german had the same name.. Morgen.. You should be thankful there was no Moins in there mate.. O.o Love the scenery and banter that You and Jeremy are sharing.
I'm hoping to soon do a self drive in Africa. A bit nervous about the whole endeavor as I've never been to Africa but have 4 decades of off road driving. I'm trying to not overthink the whole thing and just do it. Always enjoy your content Andrew.
Many happy memories of Etosha, which was the first stop of our first self-drive holiday in Namibia in 2019. The overnight at Halali Camp was made more memorable because the electronic immobiliser key to our rental 79 Series had become detached from the key ring. Spent hours searching in and around the vehicle before my wife suggested one slow and methodical daylight check of the path up to the overlook of the waterhole. An unknown visitor had found the flimsy plastic key and left it on a prominent rock near the entrance to the overlook. To that person, we are eternally grateful.
Have watched many of Andrew’s wonderful overland videos. Today I was curious to hear him point out the benefits of putting up in a lodge vs camping, took him 40 years to acknowledge this. Some of us are curious about all the unnecessary vehicle enhancements and aftermarket upgrades, when stock 4x4 vehicles do everything and can take you to everywhere in Africa and still find comfortable lodging.
very few stock vehicles can handle the loads of overland expedition travel. Fine if staying in lodges. Not fine if camping and a bit if comfort is desired. On this 42 day tour, I stayed in 5 lodges. As you can see, far more camping than lodging. I want a shower. I want to be comfortable. Anyone can be uncomfortable when camping - but for how long?
Andrew, If the food was that good, I want to know about it in great detail. Every serving, in fact. And the sourcing of ingredients would be a nice bonus.
Andrew, great videos as always, just a Q about the SIM card and communications that are obviously needed at some point. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but what about Starlink and cell phone wifi calling??? Now that they offer Starlink mini with small data pkg’s. Just a thought.
Namibia is known as the country with cheap internet and wifi. Cards easily obtrainable and good rates for data. There is good coverage but none in the remote areas.
Liked your saying about the Germans there only say „Guten morgen“ 😊 We as Germans can confirm that situations when you are a self driving explorer 😂 even when we drive around Australia. 🇦🇺 they are looking at you like astronauts going bush by ourselves 😅nice people 😅
About those GP fellas. Like when they arrive at mountain bike rides... they are the reason I quit. Back home some of them are big fish in small ponds and they bark orders at people who then run. When they get out into the world with their mall crawlers the attitude accompanies them.
Capetonian here: IMpatient Gauteng drivers are a problem, yes, but just, as annoying, are the Cape Town drivers that drive waaay below the speed limit and hogging the right hand lane. It is extremely frustrating, and it seems to stem purely from stupidity and ignorance.🙄😠
Haha, zee Germans. This is true (we've lived in Germany for about 4 years now), some of them have this way about them. And then of course, there's plenty friendly ones. We were at the Buschtaxi-Treffen a week ago and met quite a few. But, hey, those are "self-drivers".
I prefer unfenced. Don't know about Tamboti, but the nearby forrest camp was unfenced up until last year. Unfortunately not any longer, which diminishes the experience somewhat. No longer meeting Kudus on your way to brealfeast. They told us it changed due to problems with Elephants. Some camps deeper in the Onguma area are still unfenced. There you have to walk with staff at night. First thought about ignoring it, but well... as a guest you behave like a guest. I do understand their position and that they can't afford any incidents.
Your assumption that as a self driver you may not get the chance or have access to boat rides on the Kwando is not correct. There are a multitude of camps and lodges that offer such trips. The absolute best one of them all is Dan Stevens.
Yep, you're right it is not. It's the Cubango River that eventually comes or goes into the Okavango River and the Moanachira, closer to the Okavango Delta. The Cubango starts in the Angolan Highlands and flows south-east towards the Okavango. If I'm not mistaken, Andrew has done a series called finding the source of the Okavango, where he followed the Cubango all the way to the Okavango Delta😊
Edit: 🤭 The Okavango River, is a river in southwest Africa. It is known by this name in Botswana, and as Cubango in Angola, and Kavango in Namibia. It is the fourth-longest river system in southern Africa, running southeastward for 1,600 km. It begins at an elevation of 1,300 metres in the sandy highlands of Angola.
Hippos sink to the bottom. They walk along the bottom. That's why there are none on the remote islands in deep water. Or is this not the case on Lake Tanganika? Because this is the case with Lake Kariba and Lake Malawi.
Namibia land of the brave taking money into serious account you could have gone into banks...what a doomsday, you could have excused the que apologise to all and they will assist the two of you they will understand as a tourist every minute counts, you skipped the Bwabwata National
Andrew's timing and humor is amazing

Camp Kwando is a lovely place indeed
The meal sounded good at 22:40 😂. Love these videos Andrew!
I'm glad someone else noticed

Quality content as usual
Great work Team
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 Andrew! 😉
Andrew, If the food was that good, I want to know about it in great detail. Every serving, in fact. And the sourcing of ingredients would be a nice bonus.
I don't do a cooking show and never will. Sorry.
Namibia, a dream. Yep seats are not designed for longer legs. Cushion so so.
Abraços do Brasil!

Living in Somerset West one see more and more Gauteng drivers in our area. I understand fully the irritation with inpatient GP drivers.

Very enjoyable video. Andrew, what brand of air intake is on your vehicle?
Andrew, have you read Hemingway THE HILLS OF AFRICA, I’m sure you would enjoy it
tnx
Great video as always, i think you meant 13:58 the Okavango river.. Any chance you will visit Ruacana?

Really enjoy these series of videos and especially the photography. What would be interesting is what are your camera settings to assist us amateurs

Enjoyed Jeramy’s portion as well. Does he happen to have a channel by chance?
he has Instagram. He's called tolowa
Clearly Heineken has clever product placement ;-)
They definitely won't consider sueing🤭
Imagine that. A Heineken sponsorship. I've died and gone to heaven.
Just about to get a troopy. Is it really needed to get them in to 4Lo for it to work in sand? You were not even stuck to the axels?
depends on the depth of the sand. In this case, low third was the ideal gear. High ratio 1st too low. 2nd to high.
15:36 what is that red/black/yellow thing attached above the window?
I figured it out - it is a fire extinguisher

Nice video. I love this part of the world, from a birder's point of view the "boring" road is most interesting.
Happy birthday to you 🎉
I would like some updates about the old classic you bought. The white one.
I sold it in 1990. no updates anticipated.
@@4xoverland no the recent one you had to drive back from the east coast

Tell me when you will be mine,
tell me kwando kwando kwando
Safari Drive charge $4000 a week…. Thats quite a lot in southern Africa
Kaisosi lodge is not on the Kunene!!

thank you. You are correct.
Comfort, to all the naysayers, you'll do the same thing when you get to our age. Just wait you'll see.
Wow Safari Drive is outrageously expensive, way beyond the means of all but the wealthy.
Someone forgot to tell hippos in lake Tanganyika that they can,t swim.
