I really loved the cast of the movie. Jamie Campbell Bower was perfect as Jace and pretty much everyone was spot on except Godfrey as Magnus (Godfrey's a great man, may he rest in peace. He just didn't have the flamboyance of Magnus). The movie's plot, though, was terrible and even as an avid fan of the book, I couldn't bring myself to rec the movie to anyone lol
I did not like how the institute was portrayed in the movie. They made it seem like Alec, Isabelle, Jace, and Hodge were the only shadowhunters working in the institute and the architecture was also old for institute. My favorite one was the freeform Shadowhunters tv series. I actually liked how modernised it was and how lively it was aka filled with other shadowhunters. I also liked how Alec was portrayed. I loved how Matthew Daddario portrayed his feelings for Jace and then Magnus. I tried to read the Mortal Instruments series but I was already bored halfway with the first book so I stopped reading them. Plus the size (how thick the books were) made me retreat.

I loved the movie ..but it was so sad that there wasn't more following movies....after the movie i felt the urge to know the whole story so I red 6 huge books to explore how the story goes ..it was worth every hour I spent🤗
Tbh the serie it's a bit better, but bc got cancelled, got a random ending And if you got interested in this, you def should read the books, there's a whole world building divided in different set of books, I would recommend to first read "The Mortal Instruments" (6 books) bc they are the ones portrayed in this movie, in the serie, and the ones that started the franchise: "The Shadowhunter Chronicles"
But, sad to say Bane whose real life name is Godfrey Gao is already died on November 27, 2019😢. I missed him sooo badly! I love this actor. Rest in peace godfrey💐🕊️...

I liked the Mortal Instruments movie it was really good! I thought that Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower were perfect for the roles of Clary💖 and Jace.❤ They did a great job with their acting skills and really brought both characters to life in an extraordinary way.
I'm going to have to disagree to most comments. I found this movie a weak repetition of the TV series Shadowhunters. The actors in the TV series have truly captivated me throughout the episodes. Actually, I rewatched it on Monday for the 9th time.❤
For me Shadowhunters mortal instruments are better than this version. My fav characters were Alec and magnus, not to mention they are lovers and gay🤣 but i love them and they had the best chemistry there. Edit: isabelle was one of my fav too due to her fighting skills.
This wasn't a bad movie but could've been done better, and a sequel would've been good also. Just like I am number 4, such a let down that some movies should've gotten a sequel to unfinished movies.
The series is also pretty good but sadly it’s not around anymore as they cancelled it. The movie was okay, but I didn’t like it as much. Got the Shadow-hunters books too (well I’ve read one and a little of the second book).

Poor Simon...he needs to just sit his @$$ down on the sidelines before he gets himself k!lled. How many times did the shadow hunters have to rescue him, just in the first half of the movie??? 😂
Looks like they de-glamoured Lily a little. She's a beautiful woman and I think they deliberately toned her looks down to make her seem more normal, more ''girl next door''.
I’m not sure but the series version of this is on Netflix, that’s pretty good, a little better than the logic on my opinion. The books are called Mortal instruments (Shadowhunters).

This was better than twilight but it got ignored because everyone was in a twilight bubble and didn’t notice it. Jace was really a good actor too.

I did not like how the institute was portrayed in the movie.
