Got mine yesterday. It plays absolutely buttery smooth and came beautifully set up. It has already become my favourite sitting on the couch noodling guitar. Highly recommended.

I'm really enjoying mine - two slight things that bug me are the pickups are quite sensitive to being struck with a plectrum and I have to keep shifting my hand back to avoid it - something I'll just have to get used to. And the neck markings are on the subtle side - if the lighting isn't good, I find myself losing track of where I am on the neck. Apart from that, it sounds and plays really nice and I really like not having to be careful about banging the headstock into the desk and I also really appreciate being able to just place the guitar on the floor, leaning against something - it's quite stable and I don't always need to have a stand for it. The slanted gold frets are nice too .

I own a QX52. I didn't need another guitar but I instantly fell in love with the thin neck.
But I felt it lacked a little in the highs but Ernie Ball Cobalts fixed that.
I like thin strings (9-42) so that might have dulled the sound a bit.

  • @piemmetubo
    @piemmetubo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Nice presentation, thank you! I would already be very happy with the standard model and I leave the custom shop ones to players who can really appreciate them.
Most probably the Q52 will be my next guitar, when it will be available in the shops of my town, in Italy. My policy is: I never buy a guitar before feeling it in my hands.

Great review. I think these are going to sell well and I like the Laser Blue (Q52) model and have seen TH-cam reviews that say it has a thicker neck than the other Q models. I can see Ibanez releasing some new models (with Trem) next year. Like you mentioned I can see some more high-end models coming. I think this was Ibanez "dipping their toe" in the headless market. So maybe worth waiting.

Very good video, thanks. I've been playing Ibanez for over 30 years and always get excited when new models come out. I like the sound of the thinner neck on the model with slanted frets (same thickness at the 12th as at the 1st fret), but I'm not so sure how I'd cope with the slanted frets.
I'm not keen on the fret markers either: I've owned Ibanez guitars with fancy or offset fret inlays in the past and they don't work for me. I'm a very visual player too and, for me, standard traditional dot fret inlays can't be beat. Thanks again.

Love the look these, especially the black one. I’ll probably get one, but it’s hard to pick between the Black one here or the ICHI10-VWM model.
I know they have very different pick configurations, but in understanding the switching options they can both do single & hum-bucker tones. (even if it’s not true hum-bucket tones)
Just that ICHI signature model looks beautiful.
But then again, the thinner 19” neck of the black one is more me. “SHRED🎸. “

I've got the slant fret top-of-the-line model with patterned top. My particular guitar has one infuriating issue with the high E slipping off the fretboard. I pulled the bridge off and moved it over about 1mm and it's helped but not fixed the issue. The guy that attached the bridge in the factory must have been drunk when he installed it with screw holes not aligned etc. Not great. The other thing that bugs me is the little circles on the pickup covers that if you're playing with your fingers tend the catch your fingernails. They're very handy guitars to have laying around and you definitely play more because they're light and compact. Quality is good, timber is good but quality feel is about 6/10. An upgraded made-in-Japan model is screaming out to be made. It would definitely be worth the extra bucks.

I thought about it, and changed my mind about getting one of these now. I cancelled my order for the time being. Why? If Im going to pay $1000 American dollars for a guitar, I want a trem bar on it. I dont use one all the time, but when I do, I need one on my guitar. So, I will wait until the models come out with trem bars, then I will get one for sure. So I will continue to play my Steinberg Spirit until.

If they do a prestige model in the future, what are the features you would like to see? For me it's neck through, stainless Steel frets, a bridge with trem, an even larger cut away on the top horn so it meets the neck at around the 20th fret and shorten the bottom horn and angle it slightly further away from the neck to give more clearance.

I also have the 7 string, but wouldn’t describe mine as lacking sustain. It’s certainly not like a Les Paul, but I’m actually pretty impressed with its sustain considering how light it is, particularly the wound strings. However, it does have a little bit less sustain than I might like on the unwound strings beyond the 12 fret.

I cant seem to find a local store that stocks them or has them in stock so playing one hasnt been an option yet. I get how to string and intonation works. What else would make it not beginner friendly? Also i am leaning towards the qx54qm or the lazer blue matte with normal fretts since I have never played slanted fretts.

    • @anthonygeorgeguitar

Hey man, just go for what you want. I’d probably advise against the slanted fret models as that is definitely unconventional lol. But, the neck scale etc is the same as any other guitar. It will feel weird when you play a strat in future but not impossible. As a beginner you need something that inspires you to pick it up. If it’s one of these, then so be it. I was advised that I needed to start on an acoustic when I was a kid….I was like errrr no thanks….I want to rock and that makes the wrong noise and looks terrible, so I got an electric. I didn’t even own an acoustic u til I went to music college, but I can play one haha. Just get started on whatever takes your fancy. You’ll find your way from there. All the best, Ant.

Yeah, they don't need to go thick flame tops or anything that expensive to jazz it up some.
Just, the fantastic, creative aesthetic designs the Premium & Iron label RG, RGD, & S'es get..and some of the Prestiges (to a lesser extent , they tend to be a bit plain...but there are some bangers like the frozen ocean one with the birdseye maple/pearl boards - I think you're talking about )...
But yeah...Ibanez consistently have the best. inventive aesthetic designs. year after year... I'm sure we can expect some on the Q's in years to come.
I love the laser blue, tho, so...🤷‍♂️
What I want is a trem on them! I'm all for going headless. For 1) compactness 2) tuning stability, and 3) general ergonomics.
And I think head!ess look mad, anyway!
But I need a Floyd Rose style trem. I know Strandberg* and KIESEL have them..but - I could be wrong, but I am of the impression that Ibanez doesn't.
When they do...with a sick design....I'll be all in..at Iron label or Premium price points...

Here is my thought behind it: a signal with less compression/distortion will allow people to hear the subtleties of the instrument as opposed to masking it.
But you did a good job with the entire video

@@skippityblippity8656 Well I must say I didn’t really put all that much thought into it lol. Ibanez didn’t pay me to advertise their product. I was just lucky enough to acquire these guitars. I didn’t realise it would get thousands of views lol, but next time if I do something like this I’ll do a more rounded sound overview. Thanks man

@@anthonygeorgeguitar I like Ibanez... at reasonable used prices. Otherwise if I really wanted one than I would just build it myself.

@@mark5150ty wicked that you have the skills to do that bro. Plenty of players don’t though lol. Including myself. My luthier is superb, does all my work. I spend my time practicing playing the thing, not doing it up or building it haha. We all have our thing though right. I think some will love these headless guitars, some won’t…either way is fine. If you like a guitar, but it, if you don’t like a guitar, don’t buy it. Simple lol

@@anthonygeorgeguitar not arguing that I just believe that guitars are severely overpriced these days. Especially when it is all made with CNC.

@@mark5150ty yeah man, my luthier has enlightened me to this. I know how much it all costs, but selling stuff on mass takes a lot of selling. That’s what you’re paying for. There are so many layers of profit. I’d personally love to commission a custom build. The problem is nailing the guy down to get him to bloody do it. He’s so busy hahaha

Absolute junk. There is no bridge to speak of. Each saddle is independently screwed into the body with the tiniest phillips head screws. The worst design ever. I bought the guitar, and one of the saddles was lifting out of the body. The screw was stripped out of the body. Horrible design. Buy a guitar that has a real bridge. It is difficult to believe that this guitar was actually produced with such inferior, patently defective design. I had high hopes for the guitar, and the neck is great, but there really is NO bridge and the parts are absolute crap.
