I have a similiar system. I use a notebook for long-hand journaling, usually in the morning, but for my memory keeping journal I use a 5-year one line a day journal. It's my second year using it and I'm really enjoying seeing what I was doing on the same day last year, especially as I'm a month away from my first wedding anniversary so all of my entries for last year at this time are about wedding planning. ☺
That must be amazing to look back on Jennifer, omg my heart 😭😍 I was really tempted to try a five year journal this year but I figured keeping up with three journals was overkill hahaha, but I’m very seriously thinking about using one next year!
@@KaitlinGrey I just love the idea of being able to several years of the same day all together. Last month I even sent a picture of an entry from last year to my best friend because it was the day of her perinatologist appt when she found out she was having a boy. She loved it. ❤
Exactly! That’s why I’m seriously considering it, also it seems like it’s a low time commitment because you don’t have a ton of room. Ok so now I’m curious, which journal do you use? I need to go and research this thing more!
@@KaitlinGrey I ordered mine from Amazon. It's called "One Line A Day," though it's more like a small paragraph a day. Lol. They have several different covers. I got the floral. I will say, because the covers are cardstock, you have to train the spine to get it to lay flat and make for easier writing.
I've heard of that one! I love how tiny they are, I just stared a five year journal this month and so far I'm loving how approachable the smaller entries are!
I just came across this video and it is so very much me! I have two journals that have sat untouched because I’m not sure how I want to use them and couldn’t figure it out. That’s why, I want one to dump my feelings and work through them and not for everyone to see, it’s very much internal. While the other, I want to be able to document life as it unfolds. Something for reflection and the family can see what was going on, if they read it. Thank you!!!
I find nothing wrong with having multiple journals. I have some journals that are filled with my thoughts, some with just random things I wrote down while on phone calls, or a journal to fill with scraps or papers or receipts I'd like to keep (so a junk journal), I have a passport-sized travelers notebooks (navy) from Japan that I use for a weekly planner to write down when I work & when I pay a bill, etc. Having multiple & interesting journals is fun & unique. :) P. S. You have a new subscriber. I know this video is about 4 months old but this was recommended to me on the side. :)
Hey cool! I always love knowing how people find me 😄👀 Yes I totally agree with you, having multiple journals is fun and I always remind myself if it’s not hindering me and making me happy or productive than the system works! Also, welcome to the channel! I’m so happy to have yah here 😄
@@KaitlinGrey Thank you for having me. 🥰 Also, I love that you write in cursive. I grew up only writing in cursive but when I changed school for middle school back then I got made fun of for writing in cursive. A lot of kids barely knew how to write in it and my teachers would tell me I could write in print. They didn't feel like reading my cursive; They would also tell me it was nice but gave them a headache trying to remember what cursive letters meant. They didn't want to go back down memory lane. Keep in mind I was scared to write in print. At my past schools before changing back then, they would rip up my work if I attempted to write in print. And start all over in cursive. To them cursive was professional and not sloppy looking like print. But now as an adult, I still write both print and cursive. I write in print but it looks italic so people think I'm writing in cursive. 🤣
Wow that’s such an wild experience, I can’t imagine someone tearing up my work for using print and not cursive! I learned in primary school but I ended up picking it back up again in university because I needed to get things down the profs were saying and they talked really fast 😅😅
@@KaitlinGrey Yes, those were odd times. But I still learned a lot back then. Why are professors such speedsters? Are they always trying to break there daily record or something? lol
I evolved to this as well. Separating the place to converse in my journal and all of everything else but wanting a minimal look. “Cant have it all” in one notebook. It helped me to see “stream of consciousness” in the morning ( I am a morning person). Thank you
I have the same system of having a two journals one is for my job and the other is my personal or thoughts or drawings anything add to my life. My first time watching your video very cool.
Seriously helpful video, thanks so much for sharing your approach. I'm in the middle of trying to work out how to separate my journal functions and for me the big thing is always: which books do I not mind carrying with me!? The truth is I don't want to carry my "brain emptying"-type journalling with me in any form, 'cos what if I leave my bag somewhere and someone finds my crazy personal ranting? But yet I often do miss my journal when I'm out and about, and my Weeks (planner) isn't quite right for proper journalling! Your separation of "church" and "state" here is brilliant.
love the video! i am currently trying to do stream of consciousness journaling and i like your idea of having two separate journals because i also want to keep track of what i do everyday. i have always loved journaling but i’ve struggled with keeping up with it consistently
Thank you! I think coming up with strategies to stay consistent are different for everyone but for me what helped was integrating it into my morning routine and focusing on the long run/not getting down about missing days here and there!
I use two primary notebooks, also. An A6 Apica for my Bullet Journal because it's very minimalist and easily tucks into my bag; and an A5 Enigma (68 gsm Tomoe River paper) with blank pages for journaling and memory keeping. I have an ink journal in an A6 Enigma and my Master Class notes in an A6 Zequenz but when I fill up the Zequenz I'll probably switch to Stalogy. Great review!
Excellent video! Thank you for all of your suggestions. I bought the B6 Stalogy after watching your videos. I haven’t used it yet but I am closer. I need to lose the scarcity mentality and just start the bullet journal. But I look forward to journaling per your suggestions. Thanks again, take care!
Thank you so much Gladys, I always get a bit nervous before I start a new notebook, so starting with an index lowers the pressure I put on myself which helps! Don't be too hard on yourself, I know you'll get started, I believe in you!
I have just a wirebound cheap notebook for morning pages. those i don't do every morning just have been really wound up lately as the America I love changes so quickly. so I can write and write and write! Then I have a standard TN. one insert is for Bible verses/possible a comment on why that verse is for me, one insert was an effort to bujo but that was a bust! so now that insert lives to have topics/compilations like wish list, projects, purchases/divide by months, and then random tabs for brain dumps. The tabs help me go back over what we so necessary to dump. It stretches that insert for a long time. It bugs me to have to change inserts all the time. I do have a 5 year Hobonichi and that is finally getting more consistent [in year 2] so I guess that is my memory keeping. I am trying to decide on which size stalogy to get for more of a 'dear diary' or do I want to make another effort at a bujo? hmmmmm. Your handwriting is fabulous....reallly enjoyed this video. sorry to be so long winded here but you asked LOL
Thank you so much Joanna! Now that sounds like an awesome system you have going on! I personally really enjoy using stalogy notebooks for bullet journalling as well as morning pages because there are so many pages and I don't fill up my notebooks as quickly. Right now, I'm trying to be a bit more strict with how much I write so instead of doing the suggested 3 pages, I'm writing one page a day since the notebook I use it pretty big 😊 I find that structure is working really well for me in the Stalogy!
I love the idea of having a separate memory-keeping journal. I’ve been keeping a long hand journal using a Leuchtturm1917 right now and I put my calendars and habit trackers in it as well. But recently I’ve been writing so much that I feel like I should separate everything, haha. Thanks for making this video!
Thank you so much!! I love keeping my journaling separate! I find by just doing all my journalling in one notebook I KNOW no one will see, there's a lot of security and comfort. Its weird to describe but the journal becomes its own little safe haven for your thoughts which really encourages me to write in it!
@@KaitlinGrey Yes I completely understand what you mean. It is like a safe haven! I'm so protective of my personal journal that I hide it somewhere in my closet when I leave the house or else take it with me everywhere, haha.
@@cjp0989 Haha I love a good closet hiding place! Yes, I'm the same way, my journal is for my thoughts and sometimes if I know other will be reading them, it changed how you write.

Usually I'll just write whatever I'm feeling in my journal, but sometimes, I'll write letters or notes based on how I'm feeling and them burn them! I've found it to be quite cathartic 👌🏻

I have been a bit all over the place with my journaling in the past couple years since I have been experimenting with different sizes but I have to say that I am comfortable with A5.
