Check out ScanGauge III: amzn.to/3HECOUe NOTE: I'm home for a few days but will have to head back out of town soon to resume overseeing care of a hospitalized family member. Since early November, I have been gone (not working or filming) more than I have been home. New videos may continue to be sparse. The channel is already tanking after just two weekends without a new video.😭 I can't say Thank You enough to those of you who have been digging back through the softroadingthewest back catalog to watch old videos and let TH-cam know my viewers are still viewing! Unfortunately, it's probably still going to be a couple more weeks before things get back to normal. Thank you for watching...something, anything, LOL.
Thanks for putting the anorak saga to bed. I did receive at least 50 requests for one after Jason's video. Guess I have something to fall back on if my day job doesn't workout. 😂
I like the format. That was a cool prank! I would love it if there was a video of it. Everyone had such a happy look on their face 😀😂😊! Great work Scotty! What a fun crew!
Glad to see some new content but you certainly have your priorities correct with taking care of family. Like the new format and will continue going through the archives finding some older treasures!
I like the idea for "Truck Talk". I think it will be a fun way to get answers to all of those questions and curiosities we have. Great idea. Just be careful driving. Continuing to think good thoughts for your family.
First, I hope things are better with your family member. I understand how difficult that can be. After seeing your ScanGauge around the time I discovered your channel, I bought one for my truck as well as my Mini Cooper. I love them! I do like this format and look forward to more.
Perfectly fine way to address a host of thoughts, ideas, questions, etc, without devoting an entire vlog to them individually. I hope your family member is doing better as well. Sadly, we all have to go through similar times, so I'm guessing most everyone understands the difficulties involved. All the best on that. One more thing. Nice move on the runway! 😁
The anorak is the best. Gotta admit I admired you for wearing that. I still have my late father's waxed cotton anorak from the 1950s which I cherish, but don't get to use that much here in LA.
I made my own wool blanket anorak last season, they are incredibly warm! It really wasn't that bad to DIY if you have a sewing machine and some rudimentary skills!
G’day Donald. Just want to start with I pray all is well with the family, especially Lucy being on the roads now. Second is I really like this truck talk segment. Thank you. Mario.
Another great wool anorak option suggested by Jason is by Lester River - the Bushcraft Wool Boreal Shirt Anorak. I like this format, Donald! Looking forward to more mid-week insightful videos!
I’ll still check these out but the Saturday drops are normally the start of my weekend. Wake up take the dog for a walk, make a tea and watch your weekly drop among others Saturday/ Friday drops.
I'm glad to hear that! My plan is to keep that as it has been, with this occasional extra midweek thing you can take or leave while still getting the usual weekly content. Thanks for making me part of your weekend routine. I hope to get back to MY routine of those Saturday drops as soon as possible!
@softroadingthewest, Donald, I know what you mean about sitting at your desk talking doesn't seem natural. You're an adventure and travel channel with DIY sprinkled in, so your main fortê is being outside. I have done Live Streams from sitting in my truck or standing outside my truck, which I prefer, but sitting inside the house or a building you have to consider lighting, the backdrop, acoustics, etc., for our genre it's un-natural to be inside. Personally, I like this format. It's unique to you, and that works. Doing a Q&A is something that allows for your followers to get answers to their FAQs.
Nice format! Thanks for allowing us to ride in the passenger seat! While I'd love a real hand made Anorak, I'm pleased with mine from Arcturus. Decent quality for the price for those thinking a Anorak might be for them.
Love the concept. Curious if that was filmed on your way to somewhere, or just out driving specifically for the video. The road noise wasn’t too bad with your mic positioning. I was one of several folks who contacted Scott directly just after Jason’s Patreon video a couple years back. I wanted a Hobbit jacket, too! 😂 And as you said, they took way too much of his time to make, and he had zero interest in making more to sell. Online, there are places that sell them from $3-400.
I like it, keep it up. An also make sure your shirt collar is laying proper. My OCDness was kicking in, and I wanted to reach in and fix that rascal!! LOL. Look forward to your next vid.
Ooh I know!! I actually was going to insert some kind of overlaid text to make a joke about that because it was bugging me too, but in my rush to get this done I forgot. 😆 Definitely gonna "check my look" before I start the next one. 😂
Haha, I stumbled upon him earlier this year when I was researching some lens, and was quickly hooked. I eagerly await each new video each day, even though most of what he talks about isn't truly relevant to me. 🤣
@softroadingthewest I found him in like 2021 & haven't stopped watching, which is pretty rare 😄 Same, very little is directly relevant anymore, but it's extremely entertaining.
@@OverlandAdventureTimes He has already influenced my video production and editing. I've started leaving in dumb vocal flubs I used to edit out, and the whole catwalk/photographer scene in this video was definitely inspired by his boardroom sketches. Oh and the giant fist at the beginning of TruckTalk #1 (Why I don't share locations) was 100% my version of the Cripple Hammer. 😄
@@softroadingthewest that's fantastic 😄 for me all lenses are now in T stops, not F stops. "Toneh" 😄 My brain just automatically translated into "think I'll use the 50mm Tony 1.8". The fact that I use a S5iiX and Sigma glass just shows you don't have to agree with someone to thoroughly enjoy their stuff!
I think #3 Truck Talk should be 12 min of the same camera view of you taking that 12 min Power Nap! 😂 Maybe put some gurgling stream noise in the background so maybe we could use it as a sleep aid. Side note: I would consider NOT driving while attempting the above 😂 Actually, I like the style since it’s similar to your portion of your other videos explaining this and that. Oh, and we’ll have less of that “ light-in-the-loafers” modeling routine. Even though it was a bit hilarious 👌 All that ramble aside I do hope your loved one gets well soon!
I love our ScanGauge III. I use it a lot when towing. Gives me a lot of good information like transmission fluid temps at the pan and torque converter. Also, lets me know if the torque converter is locked or unlocked which is handy when approaching hills. I have noticed a 1 mpg increase since using it for towing which means it will pay for itself at about 1200 miles. I hope all is going well with your family member. In our prayers, George.
So far I've only had the one night to try it out, due to life complications at the moment. It definitely feels a little cozier than when it was bare aluminum, and those areas no longer collect condensation. It also subtly deadens the sound inside the camper in a pleasant way. I doubt it makes any significant difference in terms of heat loss, but I am pleased with the results and for me, it was totally worth the small investment in product and time.
Chapter links?? I had to go look to see how long this video was... thought it might be over an hour. I was ready to click out of it. But 10 minutes isn't long enough for links. 😁"Truck Talk" = You talking while in a truck. 😂 I can tell that you've waked runways before.😂
Ohhh believe me, I learned long ago that people start griping real quick when they feel anything goes 30 seconds longer than they think it should. 😆 I make sure to give those people the tools to skip ahead easily so they have nothing to complain about. 😄
I agree with you, drive and talk is way better than sit at your desk and talk. Have you thought of taking your modeling career on the road? Maybe at the next meetup you can get all the men to model for us women. I'm all for cheap entertainment. 🙃

I was confused for a moment. "Anorak" /ˈænəræk/ is a British slang term which refers to a person who has a very strong interest, perhaps obsessive, in niche subjects. This interest may be unacknowledged or not understood by the general public. The term is sometimes used synonymously with "geek" or "nerd"
Haha, I was unfamiliar with that term. I speak French and they also use the word "anorak" to describe certain types of coats, so when Scotty was referring to these as anoraks, it felt natural to me and I picked it up from him. I suppose we could refer to Scotty as an anorak anorak. 😂
