  • May, June and July are the seasons for portable shrine festivals in Tokyo, along with autumn. Portable shrine festivals are held in various shrines every weekend.
The first one is the Kurayami Matsuri Festival in Fuchu.
It takes place from April 30th to May 6th. The festival reaches its climax with the portable shrine departure ceremony on May 5th, and is gaining momentum through May 3rd, 4th, and 5th during the consecutive holidays, leading up the climax.
At 2:30 p.m, on May 5th, when the portbale shrine departure ceremony takes place, the drums that lead the procession of the ceremony enter the shrine, and at 3:30 p.m., the Shiomori-ko group who carries seawater for the ritual head to the main shrine. Accompanied by the sound of a gun at 6 p.m., a ceremonial procession starts leading the procession of the treasure and the drums, then 8 portable shrines are carried out from the shrine to the Otabisho (temporarily shrine).
A sound environment of the festival is superb, so if you are in a listening environment where you don't have to worry about noise, I recommend listening at a loud volume.
