satoyama is not one place it is alot of different places in japan satoyama is the word that is given to these places where humans live in harmony with the natural environment around them
I know it's been a year since this comment, but this place is in Owase, Mie prefecture. But the forest showed in the video might be in Kihoku, just above Owase.
"So charcoal producers are searching for new markets that are more appropriate in modern times" I wish the U.S. could take a page out of their book... We need to be finding other ways for these coal producers to make a living, rather than promising we will bring back an obsolete industry.
They do all this and trim the trees in a forest and then dump tons of nuclear radiation in the ocean from the fukashima mess up. does anyone else think that is insane...
R J I Like to keep an open mind, but those websites seem very radical and untrustworthy. Also, the earthquake, tsunami, and malfunction of the power plant were not on purpose; Japan Is very prone to earthquakes.
You're not very bright are you? You think Japan did that on purpose? Try taking the 2011 earthquake & tsunami into consideration & maybe you'll stop posting brain dead ignorant comments...

Wow ! I'm jealous. Such a meticulous way of living. What a beautiful culture.
Your country please
Amazing that someone can live such modest and happy life nowadays.
Very interesting, I'm wondering if biochar production would be a profitable option it could be used for organic farming purposes.
This is the forest that the totoro creator is inspired to make the forest in the movie
I'm from India. I like Japan's nature
This forest is most likely the one located in; Kihoku, Mie Prefecture.
Blessings

They didn't purposely dump anything. The tsunami was the cause of Fukushima.
