That ending speech is one of the best speeches in gaming history. Period.

Chills... I was somewhat disappointed with the game but the story was good, the atmosphere and soundtrack too. It had issues though. But there were extremely strong moments including the ending. It was so impactful and emotional. Thechineseroom's design philosophy was definitely different from Frictional Ganes' and it was clear in this game.
The story is my favourite in the franchise, but it's not really an Amnesia game. I feel like they only gave it the Amnesia title to increase sales. It's more of a linear narrative driven horror rather than a survival horror of the previous game!

@@kimtongun3663 Exactly and that's why I was disappointed. I expected another The Dark Descent style experience with all the interactivity, terror and good monster encounters. Amnesia is a weird series of games to be honest. Loved the story, soundtrack and voice acting in A Machine for Pig, disliked everything else. This linear, narrative driver horror was definitely Thechineseroom's style. (I know they are called The Chinese Room currently).
It's the same with The Chinese Rooms' recent title Still Wakes the Deep. Great story, voice acting, and soundtrack, just not much interactivity and survival elements!
In case anyone was curious, the 19th century ends in one more calendar year, on December 31, 1900. The year 1899 was part of the 19th century which began on January 1, 1801 and ended on December 31, 1900. Also, the 20th century began on January 1, 1901 and ended on December 31, 2000. Keep in mind that whether its a decade, century, or millennium you always begin with a "1" and end with a "0", this is because neither the Julian calendar or Gregorian calendar have a Year 0 (zero). For example the first decade of the 21st Century was from January 1, 2001 and ended on December 31, 2010 and the 3rd millennium that we are currently in began on January 1, 2001 and will end on December 31, 3000. The game is set in London, England at the very end of the Victorian Era (June 20, 1837 - January 22, 1901) and the analogue audio device that you are using in the game to listen to sound recordings is called a phonograph. The main difference between a phonograph and gramophone is that a phonograph has an acoustic horn or loudspeaker that is attached to a diaphragm, which is then connected to a cutting needle that recorded vibrations by engraving vertical grooves on a cylinder made of metal, celluloid, ceramic, or wax. The gramophone also has an acoustic horn or loudspeaker attached to a diaphragm, which is then connected to a needle, that is etched with spiral grooves on a disk made of shellac, lacquer, vinyl, or aluminum. I'd also like to wish good health and happiness to everyone in the new year!!!🎊🥳🎉
The portrait at 1:08:50 is Antoine Wiertz's 'La Faim, la folie et le crime' - a painting depicting a young woman who stricken with hunger and madness, has killed her own child and is in the process of cooking it (as can be seen from the foot in the pot). Rather apt for given the game
Yes, best game for New Year's Eve! "As we were bound in cold grasp, I could hear the city turing...New Century begin..." Personally, my favorite Amnesia game, I really don't understand the "you can't move items - bad game" critique for this game, story and terror is almost the best in FG's series (only SOMA beat that one imo).
Huge fan of the Amnesia series, I'm excited to see what you have to say on this game given your other playthroughs! Either way, it's somethin to draw to, thanks for the amazing content this year! Happy NEW YEARS AAAAA!
If you like the Amnesia games, I can recommend Penumbra: Overture and Penumbra: Black Plaque. You might like the atmosphere in these two, too as these were also made by the same studio.

Penumbra is so underrated and so good! I swear, in some way, it's a mix of their future games, The Dark Descent and SOMA. I played Penumbra the last, first Amnesia: TDD, then SOMA and then the Penumbra games. First one was pretty damn good, Black Plague is even better. The third one is... Penumbra: Portal Edition without portals. It's a bizarre one. There are some cool looking fan sequels too, didn't play them though.
Tmw you build a Funny Machine in order to Industrialize the Apocalypse because a Funny Orb from the Funny Eldritch Nightmare World showed you WW1 and 2
yesterday i randomly came across the speech on the Spotify and i was wondering if you had a gameplay of this game, and here it is, what a wonderful timing
the thing that i think helps now in days is that Frictional Games has moved into story first, gameplay second game design over the last like 10 years. the dark descent in a lot of ways was the last real gameplay focused game they did. So in that context, this game really makes a LOT of sense. so about the ending, a lot of folks have point out the goal of the machine wasn't to 'kill everyone' it was to do enough sacrifices to stop an oncoming tragedy, like the astecs and myans did. specifically stating they did not sacrifice enough. Whether they succeeded or failed is unknown here, it wasn't total world ending, but it was still absolutely devastating.
this game may not be that scary but the story is one of the best. Amazing video as always also Mandus and the machine are essentially the same entity mandus went to a aztec tempel and saw the future and got a fever and built the machine and then got better and forgot wat he had done or something like that i dont remember all of the story anymore
"There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship-be it JC or Allah, be it YHWH or the Wiccan Mother Goddess, or the Four Noble Truths, or some inviolable set of ethical principles-is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough. It's the truth. Worship your body and beauty and sexual allure, and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you. Worship power - you will feel weak and afraid, and you will need ever more power over others to keep the fear at bay. Worship your intellect, being seen as smart - you will end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out." -David Foster Wallace, Philosopher, Atheist.

People didnt like this game when it came out. I did. I saw it for what it was.
This is a classic Amnesia map. Right next to White Night and Emma's Story.
this game may not be that scary but the story is one of the best.
Amazing video as always
