Rappelling, Jumping, and Drowning in Eagle Creek Canyon

- Blake and Danny with the help of a very knowledgeable friend of a friend float, jump, slip and rappel down Eagle Creek canyon in Oregon. The group has to tolerate the cold and Danny's fear of any body of water not contained within a pool and kept at 85 degrees. At least there's nowhere more beautiful to face your fears.

This whole being sucked under by the current thing is really making me remember a time, in college. We wanted to go white water rafting, but they were all out of rafts, so we went with the conoes. We were up at warm river, masa falls area in Idaho. Well I ended up being the only person who was capable of climbing up and out to call 911. We had a friend who was seriously injured and had lost a lot of blood, and one missing friend. Everyone survived in the end. But that fast moving water is no joke!

I’ve always appreciated the video, but having just hiked this now that it has reopened, it’s surreal to see how much different this trail and canyon looks from fire damage.

This was my favorite trail before the kid that threw a firecracker and burnt everything up. Havent hiked since its been closed for like 2 years. Everytime I come home in the summer and look it up its closed for some reason. 🤔
that “some reason” is the severe damage the the Eagle Creek Fire caused in 2017.
@@sarahjohnson1139 Guess I didn't finish my thoughts. The trail has opened briefly before during occasion but everytime that I'M back home it's closed. Thats why I'm wondering why they don't just permanently open the trail back up.
89 Alpha mudslides. And the trail is cut out of rock and bridges need rebuilding id assume.
All this means it’s even more extreme to go canyoneering through the burned canyon. Bring extra ropes!
@@1Deejay7 - The trail, the forest, and the entire Columbia Gorge needs to be protected from further erosion caused by visitors. Closing it will give the Gorge time to heal without the damage caused by human impact. It will take a 100 years to get it back to the glory and majesty that it was. but it will take being left alone.

Pretty bad now. Trail is closed. Lots of burned trees and recent mudslides. Sad.
I think that just means it will be twice as extreme with additional obstacles to overcome. Bring an extra rope
@@moonriseproductions Wrong answer. It means you do not break the law and ignore the "closed trail" signs. If you love the environment and want to see it restored to its prior glory, we all need to go somewhere else and not destroy it even more. If you want to go rock climbing, go where there are are rocks on the ground to walk on so there is little erosion.

How long was the rope compared to that last rappel? If you go down on a single strand (with a block) setting it to be the exact length, and keep the rest in the top of a bag it can help a lot to avoid extra length in the water, which is more likely to get stuck. Someone can swim over to the closest shore with the bag to be ready to pull. Also by setting it to be the exact length, much easier to get off just rappel off the end :) no faffing about with rappel device while swimming in the moving water.

I'm OK but somebody owes me some new underwear. You guys made virtual reality shows obsolete. Recommending a good counselor probably won't do any good so perhaps you can dial back the fear factor just a tad... I'm almost 73, a little overweight and my ticker can't handle all this excitement. God knows what you left on the cutting room floor so for Pete's sake be careful out there.
Like your channel, but leaving a rope in the river is a seriously bad thing to do - this is a major entrapment and drowning hazard for others. shame on you
