For anyone who got this figure or will be getting it and thinks the paint is too flat and drab, just apply a light coat of Mod Podge with a small brush (just a couple of drops of the stuff mixed with some drops of water) and it will make the color really pop out. Also gives a little bit of a subtle shine that I was missing. I only applied it to the painted parts (the blues and reds) and it absolutely changed the way I felt about this piece. Looks incredible now. And in case you're wondering, it doesnt get sticky at all, plus it protects the paint.
i like how this ads to the head cannon effect of him not getting the damage all at once but as more of a progressive thing, like how he got some damage but couldn't be fixed cause he was separated from ratchet so just had to live with it and the damage kept building up until how we see him in AOE
The 4ever Studio 2.0 movie accurate Ion Cannon looks absolutely amazing with the Battle Damage Optimus Prime. they look made for each other. mine had finally arrived. You can not get the full glory of this figure until you have it in hand, looking at it with your own eyes...the custom paint job is quite amazing. I just was in awe. Again the 4ever Studio Ion Cannon with either version looks great, but it looks much better with the Battle Damaged version due to the cannons drab color and faded paint.
Yahhh!! I like the M01-D Optimus Prime. That's very nicely painted and as if he had battled and came back in that condition.... I like all his versions: Weijiang MPM 04 Black Apple, M01, M01-D & the UT R02.
At first that bugged me too. But after a while, I realise you get the best of both worlds. G1 Prime in alt mode, movie Prime in robot mode! Now I really want to get this!
mine is on order. I purchased the M01 gorgeous figure without a doubt. I rather like the idea of this Battle Damage version of an already incredible mold, basically due to the fact he was badly damage in the flatnose mode. so I have a sense of respect for the effort in giving us a version as close to his cinematic CGI image. I also believe you have forgot to mention that there will be only 4,000 of these repaints produced, the boxes number coded for each one. once they are all bought there will be no more which will bring the value up on this hand painted custom piece. No two are alike. with that being said, I seriously doubt any parent would purchase this piece for their child of 6yrs old. lol. I can not wait for mine to arrive which should be any day now. if anyone has reservations of our purchasing this M01-D get it. and get it now.
It depends on personal taste I have this figure and it's one of the best in this price range and fyi if u are a fighting robot u will look Battle damaged, cheers
Not having either, I kinda dig this one more just from the reviews. Surprised you're getting rid of the MP-01 instead of this as you seem to like that one more.
cool review. Personally, I think M-01 is better looking (I love the *pristine*, high-end collectible look) but this entire mold is a triumph for Wei Jiang (that and the MPP-10 mold are *the* Optimus Prime versions IMO)
Man I want this pretty badly. I think it’s amazing. Not quite a 3a Evasion prime but also not nearly as much money . I hope to own this one day in the near future.
Nice review Ben. I agree with you on the "wow-factor", I own him to, and the original M01 blew me away for a K.O. I don't agree with you on the paint-apps, I think they did a great job, and I also believe that the paint won't chip over time (if you transform him as an adult collector.) I like what WeiJiang has done with this Evasion mold. So much, that I have also ordered the M01B. He also looks stunning with the black and purple paint scheme. I think that mold will be the best take on a movie-verse Nemesis Prime that we will have. (I think Nemesis won't make his appearance in "the Last Knight".) Also ordered the MPP10E from WeiJiang. I can't wait to get that one, as I missed out on the original one from Takara in 2014.
yes sorry i should have been clearer , the age on this is still aimed for kids , i think children messing with this will still effect the paint and as for all the MPP10 repaints yep count me in , i love the figures
Take the M01. Get some model (grey/black/brown) earth paints from hobby shop. Brush lightly over Optimus while he is in robot form, and you will end up with M01-D version. I've done this paint method with Bumblebee as well.
I can't be 100% sure not having seen the last 2 Movie's much but I think his sword heats up along the cutting edge like G1 Grimlocks Sword did rather than being made from Energy as such. I think when you see the weapons momentarily sitting in his trailer they are intact suggesting the blades are physical ones. But it's interesting how some Transformers use Energy swords, some have heat up blades or Energon imbued blades and some just use a physical sword. not to mention weapons made of crystalline Energon or ones with micro buzzsaw tooth edges to them.
it seems to be an upscaled Evasion Mode Optimus Prime like you mention...but this isn't a hybrid between the 3rd & 4th movies. it is just a G1 colored version with the red and blue...like the original AoE voyager figure. but, they did change out the AoE exaust/smokestacks for more G1 accurate smokestacks on this figure.
That's probably because it's not really "battle-damaged" but he looks like he does in the actual movies. They had some scoffing and marks on them and the metal detail gives it a more accurate look than the polished version.
You know what would be cool? If when you shake him, shell cases and parts would fall off. Now that would be movie or real life accurate. Lol. Dumb jokes aside, I like the Damaged version (props for the weathered look), but I'll probably go with the undamaged one as I'm not much a fan of weathered units.
Could you please tell me -- Did your black packaging box come with a limited edition number stamped in the lower left corner of the back of the box, immediately to the right of the word "of", next to Optimus's foot? Thanks.
+Davy Prime I can imagine in between the event of dotm and aoe, prime has been hunted down quite a lot of time and he gain alot of scar and have accidents during those days and that's why he scan the g1 style truck so he can at least be disguise and take a rest while autobot like sideswipe and arcee were the one trying to be his bodyguard but both sacrifice their life in order for prime to further escape and ask for more reinforcement

I think that they should have used the same blue as the head on the rest of the body and done flames on side of cab in either same or burgundy colour and used it on body if they couldn't use tan
Hmm.. Realistic weathering is a double edged sword especially for a Transformer. I do a lot of weathering work, mostly on 1/6 custom builds or the odd Zoid HMM kit, to get a realistic look it's not just the colour but the texture which is nearly impossible to get on a Transformer due to the engineering and clearance issues. Aside from the odd silver dry brush work on the windows and the rusted energon blades that you pointed out it's not a bad job given the limitations that they have to work with (judging from your review imagery). It could have come out a lot more cartoon looking especially as it's a mass produced product and not a one off custom, the fact that no visible flakes or clumps of paint seemed to come off during transformation is a big plus! Like anything they probably need a bit more practice dry brushing on an industrial scale but you can't expect them to become Three Zero or 3A overnight. You were praising the Asmus Gandalf recently, a year ago their weathering was appalling!! It basically made it convenient for custom builders like myself as the figures were reasonably priced, we just needed to finish them LOL. As for this figure, just treat it for what it is, a collectors "special edition" type affair to be handled gingerly, left posed on the shelf 99% of it's life and occasionally transformed when you're feeling brave enough. On the plus side you'll only be adding to the real weathering which might even improve it by blending in some of the over zealous dry brush marks ;-)
love that paint job personally. tip: you can get a massive can of clear spray varnish from Wilkos for £3.50 - give it a coat of that to stop paint rub... :) Also I'll buy your M-01 off you Ben - we live near each other as you know! contact me on facebook or the TFYTC... :)
this is kinda unrelated, but im planning to get the aps01 ko striker optimus prime. I just wanted to know what the flaws are on that. Should i save up and wait for the da28?
910AM Superstation Funnies kinda have to agree a bit though the story and dialouge are garbage i myself am impressed at these trashheaps or walking junkyards they have
I think in the movies his swords and axe are not supposed to be energon but superheated cybertanium. You know, the same metal all transformers are made of. They changed that for the 4th movie and called it transformium, don't know why. Really dumb imo.
You’d be surprised that many people enjoy Bayformers too. People who hate it either have actual good reason and some others hate it because “mUh G1!11!”

I believe his weapons are just super heated metal, so I guess it makes sense for the blades to rust
Its is problably super heated energon with the metal
The moment when knock off are better than Hasbros
Shigani Kanaki I agree.
Yea
There mostly are lol
Hasbros are for kids, these are for adults and more expensive
Third party company: "always has been 🔫"
This is the best transformers Optimus prime KO I’ve ever SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!
Perfection
It's good, great, but believe me there are better ones
i like how this ads to the head cannon effect of him not getting the damage all at once but as more of a progressive thing, like how he got some damage but couldn't be fixed cause he was separated from ratchet so just had to live with it and the damage kept building up until how we see him in AOE

It's definitely Masterpiece level to me

I still wish his paint job was AoE movie accurate.
Flames on the side of the cab, as opposed to his G1 grey stripe.
agree, it would stand out more between the G1 figures as well
Jeremy Nordstrom
When I noticed that it really started to bug the hell out of me but I can look past it
At first that bugged me too. But after a while, I realise you get the best of both worlds. G1 Prime in alt mode, movie Prime in robot mode! Now I really want to get this!

Just can't justify having both when money is tight my friend
at first i didn't even believed that it was transformable... the proportion is just amazing
Dea Rachman what do you think of legendary toys LT02? It blows this out of the water right?
cool review. Personally, I think M-01 is better looking (I love the *pristine*, high-end collectible look) but this entire mold is a triumph for Wei Jiang (that and the MPP-10 mold are *the* Optimus Prime versions IMO)
WOW a KO with paint that nice!! Really quite a mean looking Optimus Prime!
Man I want this pretty badly. I think it’s amazing. Not quite a 3a Evasion prime but also not nearly as much money . I hope to own this one day in the near future.
Own him yet?
If WJ is smart they’ll do another version that’s screen accurate. I’d preorder that sucker!
Nice review Ben. I agree with you on the "wow-factor", I own him to, and the original M01 blew me away for a K.O. I agree with your opinion Ben. The alt mode does look better than the robot mode.
Feniks Phoenix
Nemesis Prime makes appearance in the last knight, but was disappointing and only appeared like 1 minute or so...
he was nemesis prime the whole movie
execpt for the end

Oh this was bloody amazing
I feel like a small wash over with some paint would make it look greater
I can't be 100% sure not having seen the last 2 Movie's much but I think his sword heats up along the cutting edge like G1 Grimlocks Sword did rather than being made from Energy as such. Weijiang is greater than takara tomy instead. The size and the quality is good. Thumbs up weijiang
Lanvinn Enriquez are their figure (like this Optimus prime) have die-cast Metal Part? Look like it is but I’m not sure
Esacus yah there is a die cast part
This kind of paint app would work well on the "normal" prime, where his body is not so "busy". Just look at how nice the vehicle mode looks.
your a bit harsh benny!! i got mine about a week ago and think it looks great, one of the best in my collection
The weapons have that shape. It's just they get really really hot which makes them glow.
I actually like the weird elbow joint because it allows for more bend
it seems to be an upscaled Evasion Mode Optimus Prime like you mention...but this isn't a hybrid between the 3rd & 4th movies. it is just a G1 colored version with the red and blue...like the original AoE voyager figure. but, they did change out the AoE exaust/smokestacks for more G1 accurate smokestacks on this figure.
you think with all that added engineering they did they would have given him a proper elbow joint, but all in all he looks fantastic
i love this one. I do have this one as of last week. i prefer this one to the cleaner look as the cleaner looks too "clean" and toy like....
The vehicles front section looks iffy but wow that paint. Want it.
I'm not a fan of "battle damage" but wow that paint is well done!
That's probably because it's not really "battle-damaged" but he looks like he does in the actual movies. They had some scoffing and marks on them and the metal detail gives it a more accurate look than the polished version.

Instead of Battle Damaged I feel that it looks more like it ran through mud and haven't been washed for months. Just dirty, in other words.
Yup. It turned out more dirty than battle damaged. Same for mine too. But no complaints here.

Still , I like it and for a not bad paint job , it's worth the pick up !!! Awesome review Ben .
AMAZING REVIEW .... I think I'am gonna save the money to buy this figure ....
I think that they should have used the same blue as the head on the rest of the body and done flames on side of cab in either same or burgundy colour and used it on body if they couldn't use tan
I need one of these. Any idea where I can find one now?

also in the film one of the rear wheels were missing (basically could do with little improvements, nothing major still fabulous).

Paint is somehow durable and does not chip. I think they sealed it to give it that paperish feel.
to clarify, the originals paint is better or is this version in particular going to wear off?
With it being battle damaged, maybe with paint wearing off,may give it more character??
this is kinda unrelated, but im planning to get the aps01 ko striker optimus prime. I just wanted to know what the flaws are on that. Should i save up and wait for the da28?
It just needs to be "sealed". Easy enough for anyone that can hold a can to do.
They have done a goodjob but I think little too much of paintwork. I also have one but it doesn't look like he has been through the battle.
This would be a perfect figure if they changed the elbows, but I'll definitely buy him.
Is the paint durable or does it chip? Thanks.
If Wei Jiang releases an over-sized Apollyon/Despotron/Mightron with significant improvements, then I'm just gonna lose it haha (in a good way though)
Holy cow so cool and big but the rusty one is so dirty
I keep reading that this model is limited edition? Are they numbered or signed? Is there a COA with each one?
Keep making videos like this!
All BayFormers look like "Scrap Heaps" in robot form, even when they aren't damaged! Can't wait until someone else picks up the movie series....
910AM Superstation Funnies kinda have to agree a bit though the story and dialouge are garbage i myself am impressed at these trashheaps or walking junkyards they have
these are the types of toys I expect from HASBRO
How much would you want for the M-01
Technically, the blades are just superheated.
I like the weapon because to me it looks like they are running out of energon
does he have a matrix and is it rusted
maybe the stuff on the axe and sword is blood?
actually if you watch tf 3 when Ironhide kills the dreads their energy is red like blood so that's what the red is
actually if you watch tf 3 when Ironhide kills the dreads their energy is red like blood so that's what the red is
Lt. Will Energon is blue, so it's unlikely.
Jarmo Verriet In Transformers, the energon colours are messes up. In transformers prime, energon is blue. in aoe, the energon is green.im
What i didnt like about this figure is that in the robot mode, he has painted flames but in vehicle mode , doesn't.
bought one yesterday and took me over 1 hour to transform it to truck ,geee
How bad is paint chipping
Is weijiang high quality ??
If it wasn't in prime cartoon colors I may get it
is he better then the AA dieplay repaint?
No I don't think so
can't compare them myself because i haven't got the m-01d yet, the dieplay one is impresive and in my eyes close to the m-01d
So is this basically a masterpiece version?
if it's possible, i'd love to take your original M-01 off your hands. I've been thinking of getting one. if not that's cool too.
great review Ben will you be reviewing the nemesis version of this
yes yes i will
Great I'll wait for your review and decide then thanks for reply 👍
What website delivers to UK?
Tfdirect does buddy , I'm in the U.K.
Benscollectables will it cost extra good sir?
No buddy , a lot of the time I order over $150 or get stuff when the offer it shipped free
they should of added flames on the truck mode
I want a battle damaged Black&Purple Nemesis version.... #ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney
I think in the movies his swords and axe are not supposed to be energon but superheated cybertanium. You know, the same metal all transformers are made of. They changed that for the 4th movie and called it transformium, don't know why. Really dumb imo.
In AOE the humans named it transformium, I think that the Cybertronians still call it cybertanium
Well it’s just the name the humans used, for all we know it is actually called Cybertanium.
HOW TALL IS THIS FIGURE IN INCHES??? PLEASE LMK, THANKS!!!!!!!
About a foot tall.
how much for M01???
How's your leg?
genial, me encanto cuando tuve esta figura en mis manos. lastima que tuve que venderla por necesidad :(
now we just need a M01-R rusty version am I right?
I like Bayformers
Thank my friend nostalgia
Please don't kill me or my friend.
PLEASE
You’d be surprised that many people enjoy Bayformers too. People who hate it either have actual good reason and some others hate it because “mUh G1!11!”
Seems like something like this has been reviewed before..
oh...nevermind..Lol
the swords arent energon. they are heat blades.
It looks unnatural. that’
s the word I was looking for!
👍
