  • We drive a beautiful HQ GTS Monaro Coupe from General Motors Holden! An iconic 70s Australian muscle car. Also, we take a look at a spectacular HQ Holden Sandman ute.
    At Master of Machines we'll check out anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars, Australian Muscle Cars, Japanese Cars, European Cars, Classic Cars, Vintage Cars, Race Cars, Vintage Racers, Historic Race Cars, Pro Touring, Street Machines, Speedway, Aircraft, Engines, Motorcycles, Trucks, you name it, even a military tank! If it's super cool we'll cover it, and not only that, in many cases, we'll even drive, race or ride them!
    Passionate car guy and Master of Machines host Glenn Everitt has extensive experience in the Automotive Industry, as a high performance technician, auto mechanic and dyno tuner, including other industries such as auto restoration and auto detailing. He's a lifelong racer too, born into a motorsport family and starting with road racing from the age of 14, and also competing in Drag Racing to help promote his dyno shop for many years. He's also passionate about two wheels as well, having started out on dirt bikes, then moving to Sports bikes of all kinds.

    HQ coupe - probably the most beautifully proportioned body shape Holden ever made.

      Absolutely the best , not a Holden lover but thats the finest moment in that shapes life , after this they botched the rear , loved that rear window .

      They stunned everyone with this design when they introduced it, and it looks no less stunning nowadays. Proof that good design is timeless!

    Gorgeous car! As an American who has seen several of his favorite marques die-off in recent years (Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Mercury in particular), I really feel badly for Australian car enthusiasts. The loss of domestically produced Fords, and now the imminent death of Holden altogether is devastating. Australia built some beautiful cars. It’s just a shame that couldn’t continue.

      John De Dominicis Jr , thanks for your kind words, you are so correct, and we’ll sadly miss our American derived brands with local derivatives. Thankfully we still have Ford and the Mustang.

      @@GlennEverittMasterofMachines not the same Glenn. Holden was an iconic name before gm bought them out. Started off as saddlers then into coach work. Being a lover of Aussie cars, Holdens in particular, I can't see myself being a fan of racing in Australia in the future.
      Such a loss, such a shame.

    I remember when the HQ was released, it looked so modern and sleek, kind of like a cross between a Mustang and a Camaro. I love that they are both original, not modified and turned into something else. Well done Jim, you have good taste. Thanks Glenn!

    I bought a GTS 1972 253 coupe in 1973 ….I was 23 and single. The poor guy who sold it needed a bigger 4 door for a growing family…dark green with beige interior. How I loved that car…never got over selling it to make room for 3 kids in 1980. A memorable trip was from Ballina to Kempsey for a golf tournament. Cruised between 70-80 mph on terrible roads. My mate said can I have a drive on the way home. He ordered a new 4 door the next week. I am 75 soon…would love to buy a nice original GTS….308 would be nice.

    It's amazing how the HQ has come to be appreciated. In the 80's and 90's when people talked about the Monaro, it was all about the first gen (most likely due to it's racing pedigree), there was little love for the HQ but I always loved it the best.

    When I first arrived in Australia in 1973 I bought a HQ series Kingswood, followed a year or so later with a HQ series Premier. After driving a rusty old Morris Minor in England those cars made me feel like a "king of the road". What great days they were and it's so sad that Holden no longer exists in Australia.

  • @noelgibson5956
    @noelgibson5956 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yes they're very nice!
    I have a preference for HK/HG's as I like their more rugged styling.
    I have an HG Kingswood sedan in light green with a white roof and 186 engine. I also have a champagne coloured LH Torana 202 auto plus a VK Commodore wagon 202 carby engine.
    I always wanted a WB Statesman Caprice but found they never ever fell into a price range I could afford.
    I admire anyone who plays their part to preserve these for future generations to enjoy. We can't take them with us. We're just custodians of them for a short while.
    Good luck with your HQ's! They are stunning!🚗👍😄

    Beautiful HQ models! My Dad was promoted to Asst. Chief Engineer of Holden in 1968, and I and my parents moved to Melbourne (Toorak). I attended Carey Baptist Grammar School in Kew. I loved growing up in Australia. By 1970 my Dad, George W. Roberts was Chief Engineer and then HQ models were launched. At age 16, my Dad took me out in a 1972 Monaro 4 speed to begin teaching me how to drive. Your video brings back many very happy memories!!!

    Ever since I first saw Mad Max, the Holden Monaro which the Night Rider and his girlfriend were in fleeing from the "bronze" at the beginning of the movie, became an iconic scene. Also in that movie, the '73 Ford Falcon GT XB is more iconic when Max was prowling the roads in it to get revenge on the Toe Cutter and his gang. I normally hate Fords, but that car is my exception.

  • @area51isreal71
    @area51isreal71 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The HQ Holden's were the best looking Aussie cars ever. The standard Kingswood looked fantastic, the Statesman was a sharp looker and even the ute's looked good. The two door coupe was just drop dead gorgeous though. You would struggle to find another Aussie car that looked as good as the HQ Holden. The only other other ones I can think of is the VH,VJ and VK Valiant Charger. The HJ,HX,HZ and WB Statesmans. In terms of just looks, those cars nailed it. Overall though, the HQ range remains king I reckon. A huge range of good looking reliable cars for every market from commercials to luxury cars and everything in between. Sadly it will never be repeated.

    As a big fan of the older Chevrolets, it was frustrating to watch the Oldsmobile and Pontiac fans have to lose their favorite car company. Unfortunately the stupidity of GM has found its way to the Land Down Under. My 2000 Silverado 1500 is the newest Chevrolet I will ever own, it is paid for with almost 200,000 miles. There are plenty of older Chevrolet trucks and parts available for years to come.

    If your government increased the duty on imports say another 15-20 percent the home made car market would stay, your government has sold you out, the public back holden for years but let overseas ceo's cream the profits. Get a true Aussie business team and make it work, don't let them win.

    • @GlennEverittMasterofMachines
      @GlennEverittMasterofMachines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spot on Paul! Back when we started producing cars here in the late 40s, our government did put such tariffs on imports to give our auto industry a competitive advantage. Sadly the doors have been wide open to all comers for so many years to come in conquer, taking our manufacturing industries and jobs away. It's very sad. The tide is turning a little now after all that's happened in 2020, so fingers crossed we as a country can get back on track. We have the ability to produce a great product here in Aus.

    You talk about Australian cars and Australian diggers fighting for what we believe. Every country in the world which has a motor vehicle industry supports it. The German government supports BMW. Japan supports Toyota and America bailed out General Motors during the GFC. The Australian Government turned its back on the car industry and forgets that Australia used to be a country that built things, not imported them. It's a disgrace. Our kids will never know about the Holdens and Fords that took families comfortably over vast distances, or the jobs they created.
