I feel like there wasn't nearly enough discussion on the idea of Taln not breaking due to a dawnshard related reason. Taln seems extremely likely to have held a dawnshard. He tried to kill Cultivation, and we know of very few weapons capable of hurting a shard. We also know he was given a weapon by Kalak that he no longer possesses when he joined the Oathpact. We know a Dawnshard was involved in what happened on Ashyn. The likelihood of Taln having held a dawnshard is extremely high. If he did, what is his torment? A torment that makes it impossible for him to give in I think is very interesting (and likely!)

I’m open to there being some weird shenanigans that made it so Taln couldn’t break, but my preference is just incredible force of will. Some people are not super pain motivated (apparently Brandon has some of that), some are stubborn to absurd levels, I’ve met both types, so I find it completely believable that you could have completely “normal” reasons for Taln just never giving up. I would prefer if the focus on Taln was examining how a “normal” person could become what he became, and how detrimental that could be elsewhere in life.
Complete refusal to budge is truly inspirational if you’re a German being tortured by nazis to give up the location of refugees, it’s far less laudable if it is sabotaging your relationships, and downright tragic if it’s a handful of isolated Japanese soldiers fighting their entire lives on islands for an authoritarian regime that surrendered decades ago.

Re: Divison and Nahel bonds: I find it likely that an unbound Division surge could be used to split a Nahel bond, similar to how an unbound Bondsmith can do the crazy things Ishar did with his Honorblade. But even then, I don't think it could be a permanent break - at least not with the form of bond taken between Surgebinder and spren. It might take consistent Investiture to force the bond apart, but it would naturally mend once that Investiture dissipates. Otherwise, I suspect Nale would just have split the bonds of burgeoning Radiants instead of killing them (though perhaps, with his Ideals, he did not use his powers unbound as Ishar did).

The way Division is described is very similar to soulcasting with having to convince the cognative aspect of the object to think of itself in a different way.
If you could use Division to break a Nahel bond then you could theoretically use soulcasting to create one.

With Division, the art of Dusbringing, you gave a spark - and controlled the reaction. The results could be explosive. If you were careful, they could also be precise. In terms of was Elantris pre or post shattering there is a way for it to be based on the shape of Arelon and pre shattering. It’s been a while since I’ve read Mist born but when Vin was had the power of the shard shaping the land was a trivial thing. And was crucial to how the land was eventually healed. So it’s possible that one of the original shards shaped the land first and set the magic to be location based as Elantris was built. It’s also possible that early Elantrians knew this and updated the Aeons accordingly but this knowledge was either lost to time or even when the shards were lost.
Either way it’s still possible that Elantris is a Dawn city. Which would be super cool. But would also make sense if it’s not

God metals we know of and their special properties (besides possibles uses in the 3 metallic arts):
Lerasium - grand access to investiture (this may be its special property AND its allomantic power, as far as we know)
(Pure) Atium - inducing wild speculations in the fandom
    Raysium - an investiture conductor
Harmonium - can replicate in a more powerful way active uses of metallic arts (and maybe other arts) around it
"Trellium" - can repel other god metals/investiture and it can possibly separate mixed investiture
"Tanavastium" and "Koravellium" - we don't know, we only saw them in honorblades, shardblades and shardplates
Then there are the odd one:
God Metal on Brayze - attracting cognitive shadows (It isn't raysium, is it?)
Super special metal under the shattered plains - can hide from the gods, plus some weird interaction with their destructive powers...
Are these two actually god metals? Are they god metals of Adonalsium? Can something like that exist?
    Am I missing something?

For a sufficiently large black hole, we don't think spaghettification would happen (not enough tidal forces) - so humans (or planets) could pass across the event horizon unharmed. If hawking radiation radiate investiture, you could toss braze in there and only get a return when the black hole evaporates enough of the investiture to comprise all the heralds (assuming such a thing happens). With the time dilation involved, that is a great cheat to buy a lot of time.
Or even easier, just force things you don't like to get too close to a black hole and the time dilation buys you a ton of time (a la replicators from Stargate).

Possible reason why Adolin couldn't talk to Maya through the aluminum room, but stormlight could evaporate from an aluminum box: Maya was in the cognitive realm, which reflects the physical. But the spiritual doesn't reflect the physical, so transitioning to the spiritual allows it to ignore location entirely. You can't use Shadesmar to teleport without traversing distance in Shadesmar (it may be less distance, but you still have to travel it). But in the spiritual realm, location is meaningless.

On the black hole investiture thing, i think there's an interesting parallel there.
Nightblood absorbs the investiture of everything it kills and is highly concentrated. Black hole forms when a given volume of spacetime has a great concentration of matter (Schwarz child radius) it essentially become "hole" in spacetime.
Would that happen to nightblood ? Given its fixed volume as sword is there a critical point where its so invested it could become some kind of investiture singularity ?
Not to mention the soul well on braize. If what ever is core is made of (Raisium?) was squished to it schwarz child radius then would the physical singularity be reflected in the cognitive realm ?Especially since Braize essentially acts like one (as close as could be experienced in a any way we've seen)
Maybe even during SpaceBorn, with the discovery of what black holes are that concept would more analogous to what Brazie is

@@17thShard to be honest. I don’t think you (Eric) were really amongst the patronizing comments. You’re generally the fairest amongst the crew. It was actually more of a general jab to the toxic anti Wind and Truth community in general… because now that it’s cool to not hate on the book anymore people seem to be quite excited to talk about it.
The book is certainly not perfect, but there is a lot to be excited about, and I think the general commentary did a poor job of getting that across… and was unfair to the book. Even on earlier videos if someone liked the book in the comments, there has been minimal engagements… typically along the lines of “I’m glad you were able to enjoy it” (which I think is also a bit dismissive and patronizing in itself)
But I saw the critiques before I read the book and a lot of the 17th Shard actively discouraged me from reading it…. And I came off of reading it as people had those right/wrong opinions. And I think the book is overcritized because people hyped up the things they wanted in the story. There were a lot of opinions that came from preconceived notions and unhappiness of theory resolution.
But my opinion don’t mean anything anyway lol

Gravitation unbound by Honor should theoretically be able to make mini blackholes

    • @Fibonochos

Oh no, this would mean that you could create a fabrial that dumps a massive amount of investiture to gravitation. Creating a gravitation bomb...

What if the debatability about whether BAM can heal is about whether one should count it as healing. For example, if it is akin to Unmaking or Enlightening, then my impression is that it is more like a death with a twisted reïncarnation than a straight healing.

Brandon wants to emulate the /White Sand/ graphic novels in text very closely not solely in order to avoid breaking canon but also so that people do not need to buy another version of the same story. So, he cannot introduce too many new important points or lore, unless he does not actually consider that to be worth buying a book for.

I don't agree with the first Honor flashback being Devotion and Dominion..I think it makes more sense to be Ambition. We know Ambition died first, and we know that Mercy was also involved in that. They said that Rayse tricked Devotion and Dominion into fighting each other, and then he came in later and killed them both when they were weak. I think that would have happened over a longer period of time, especially since we know that they were not first

I think Stormlight can evaporate into the Spiritual but Adolin can‘t summon Maya from the Cognitive for the following reason:
Imagine the aluminium encasing as a channel. Stormlight leaks, within this channel, first to the Cognitive Realm (while staying in the location of its encasing) and then to the Spiritual Realm. There, location doesn’t exist, so inside the encasing = outside the encasing. But while still in either the Physical or the Cognitive Realm, it is fully seperated from entities in the two by the walls of its channel.
Now picture Adolin summoning Maya. She is not in the Spiritual but in the Cognitive Realm, where she is still being seperated from Adolin by this equivalent of a channel. If she were to head to the Spiritual Realm first, she could then enter the channel from there and transition back into the Cognitive (at the location of the inside of the room) and finally into the Physical Realm, right into Adolin‘s hand.

Re: Black Hole question. It is strange that Investiture can be trapped by a black hole. A lot of Invested entities can ignore gravity and float around (most spren, shades, seon, shards). Why are black holes special?
Though maybe Investiture is affected the way light is, so a black hole would still work. Really, I don't see why General Relativity would be true in the cosmere. It has faster than light travel, so Einstein has to be wrong, but then again Sanderson worried about blueshift with cadmium bubbles so it has to be at least partially true.

Why is nobody asking if adonalsium was born from a black hole? It’s a super dense concentration of investiture say there for a long time…. It has a basically infinite access to energy and would certainly pierce the realms, if not be present in them.
