  • this d'andrea ta120 boring and facing head was very stiff when turning by hand so I decided to to clean it and give it fresh new grease, I searched the web to know how to disassemble the head because it has very complicated parts, but I didn't find any thing in the web, unfortunately I don't have a video how to disassemble, but I do have a lot of pictures explaining how, also this video shows IN the beginning the sequence from the last part to take it off, meaning last part I assembled is the first part you should disassemble, reverse engineering!
    I will upload another video full of parts pictures.
    feel free to ask or if you need the user manual.

    Thank you!
    Your video taught me two things:
    1) I now know how to change the spindle - the spindle I have does not fit any of my machines,
    2) I don't need to mess with the internals of this amazing device!

    I have one of those, the greatest facing head made. Bless the onslaught of CNC, I can now afford so many previously unaffordable fine tools.

      The only criticism is that the shanks are aggravating to change to different spindles. The Narex are much, much easier, but still not half the tool.

      you will have to remove the boring bar holder block, and then remove the worm gear beneath it, then you will find the screw that holdes the arbor.

    First of all.......a boring head is a simple device, ( and they are quite cheap on EBAY), to move a boring tool horizontally to increase the diam of the bored hole......the tricky bit comes when you want to face the bore square to the bore and for that you need a boring and facing head and they come in at approx A$2,000 for any you can find even second hand.
    Spot facing is a poor man's solution (but practical) to having a face square to a bore without a boring and facing head.
    At all times, if you can manage, it is better to bore a hole in the lathe and face it simply.........that is a toss up for accuracy as most if not all lathes will give you a tapered bore.

    • @dimitartenchev9338
      @dimitartenchev9338 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yada Yada Yada my 1960 S lathe makes 50 ish microns taper not really a valid point in that the problem comes with work holding and indexing on lathes

    • @gangleweed
      @gangleweed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dimitartenchev9338 You are lucky, I'm endowed with a 1930 Colchester Bantam lathe.........all lathes will cut taper to a degree, it's in their nature........for really accurate long bores I always use a Tree boring and facing head that I acquired a few years back for my mill...........the Tree boring and facing head will also bore a tapered hole if you need it.

    Cheap copy of a wohlhopper!

    • @davesmith5430
      @davesmith5430 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely not, wohlhaupters are a different animal. They did make a head that was close to the sensitive called the p50. The dandrea is Definitely no copy.... if i was to have a guess, the p50 on the other hand I would say came into existence because of what dandrea where doing right from the start. I own a 120 and have used a few others, nothing cheap about them. My wohlhaupters dont get a look in over my ta120

    • @pjofurey6239

      The word is Wohlhaupter , and these are not cheap nor are they a copy , in fact wohlhaupter have a licence agreement with De Andrea to market the Italian equipment under the German badge , these were the first fully automatic boring heads with adjustment under power , life is easier when you know what your talking about .
      I have one wohlhäupter left for sale , cheap.
