Sad to see places like this just not in use anymore. I used to love going to the drive in when I was a kid . My first movie was Star Wars. I once snuck in behind where the projector were . The manager at one time let me stay and watch it with him . Brings back so many good childhood memories.

Thank you for exploring this abandoned Drive-In movie theater. Drive ins were such a big part of Americana (Canada too). Oh, the excitement of getting into your pajamas, hoping into the car, cheering when the driver got the right angle on the hill and the speaker would work! Then it would be off to the playground in front of the screen to play with other pajamad kids until the lights flashed. Then it was back to the car to cozy up in the back seat, turn up the very tinny speaker and settle in for the first blurry movie! Then, during intermission, you'd head to the food building to buy popcorn, or maybe a hot dog. Oh, along about the middle of the second feature you'd fall asleep and miraculously wake up being carried to bed. That was as a kid! The as a teenager. . . there would be a lot of foggy windows. Occasionally you'd get to see both movies. Then the trick was to turn your headlights when you hit the street! Thank you so much for those fun memories!! Looking forward to your next episode.

Grandma Carla Your welcome! Yes! so many fine memories going to the Drive-In. My parents would take us early to play at the park, kids all in their PJ’s. When I was a teen before we had our licence a group of us always walked to the drive-in with blankets, chairs and a radio. We usually took up at least 2 spots. Thank you for your comment and glad you enjoyed the show!

Wow. Somehow i have a feeling that this place still has power coming in. I noticed that the electric meter is still attached on the building. Id try flipping on the breakers in the circuit box, and see what happens. Would love to see those projectors light up. Id then come at night, fire them up, and light up the screen bright white. I did just that a few yrs ago at an abandoned movie theater. Was fun. Had to make sure i did not flip on the breakers for the outside marques and signage. I am amazed how the power is still on in some of these places.

I lived in Washington state where there is still a drive in movie theater it hit home when you said it cost a lot to replace the projectors!!! They spent a lot to replace them and almost shut down completely because they didn't think they would be able to afford to stay open! They are still open to this day and they are an amazing thing!!!

What a shame, there are quite a few drive-ins, and old cinemas that have reinvented themselves, and will only play old films on the reels. There is one in Pennsylvania that "The Blob" was filmed at, lol, every Halloween, they play the movie, and have people run out of the theater screaming, it's hysterical! Ty for exploring this property :)

Growing up we had 3 drive-ins within 10 or so miles of our house. Oh the excitement of getting PJs on because you were supposed to fall asleep! And getting in the car to go to the movies. Had my 1st taste of pizza at a drive-in! By the time teen years came, more indoor theaters around that had AC and no mosquitos! When we moved to VA in 79 there was a drive-in which got taken out by a tornado in mid 80s. There are still a couple left within an hours drive. Nah! Big screen tv is good!! Very interesting. Brought back memories. Think of the love that couple put into that place for all those years!!

Of course, the drive in was fine & dandy as long as my daddy & mommy were in the car also😅. They weren't too pleased if my dates took me to one😂. Thanks for the memories!

In the projection booth I see two Strong model X-60-C xenon lamphouses (likely operating 4,000 watt xenon bulbs), a Century model "SA" 35mm projector head sitting on top of a Century optical soundhead. The platter system and makeup table is a Strong or Potts brand. In the snack bar I see both soda pop vending machines are still there and un-molested! Also, I see a "glass front" candy/chip vending machine with a portable radio on top. The portable radio was so patrons could still hear the movie soundtrack while they waited in line at the snack bar. Judging by the 3 toilets in the womens room and three urinals and one toilet in the men's room, this theater was likely built between 1955 and 1960. Outside, the screen is all metal construction and would be easy to repair and replace the missing/damaged panels. The picture area (the white portion you project onto) of the screen appears to be 40 feet high by about 94 feet wide (a pretty good size for a drive-in theater)

Nikki I am 45, and grew up going to the drive in during the 80’s. We still have a drive in a little ways outside the city. Still go every summer. There are none left in the city, though.

Remember going out west evey summer and I met Teddy's parents had a drive in and used to go during the week ends there's had carbon arc projectors where they have to strike an arc and keep it going looking through the side door dark green window to watch the arc and the bowl shaped mirror in the back to reflect the light to the film I remember Ted telling me that the mirror itself was close to $ 1,000. back in the late '70's. But I have read and heard that the carbon arc was the brightest light compared to any bulbs they used to use them as search lights and on movie sets as well ...
I really appreciate your video that projector looked like look like thay are newer bulb type projectors they don't look anything like the carbon arc projectors.. it really brings back memories... It would be nice to see it restored and opened again as a part of our history from the '50's to the '90's
