    I've got a Gen 2 Prius (2009), has about 185k miles and I had the water leaking into the battery well too, along with the red triangle and other lights and issues with the car not starting, have already replaced one aux battery and may need to replace it again. The water leakage into the hatch is apparently a common issue with these little cars, aggravating but easily fixed, usually. I haven't found the source of the leak yet but I've drilled a hole into the bottom of the battery well, just as a temporary fix til I can locate and seal the leak. Prius Chat is a really great place for tons of info on these cars, I've already learned a LOT. I still love my Prius, just wish these things weren't a problem.

      @Mary Early, I have a 2nd and 3rd gen prius. I definitely enjoy having my cars. My 2nd gen had a water leak coming in from the welds on the hatch area. I was able to fix it with some silicone. I hope you find your leak. Best of luck! 👍

    Also, just an FYI for anyone with a Prius, your 12v battery kind of sucks, and it can cause a lot of issues that seem electrical or even if you're getting something telling you your hybrid battery pack is failing, sometimes a $200 aux battery can fix a lot of weird issues. Those little batteries don't do anything except run the electronics, and you don't get much warning, if any, that your 12v is failing....like me, you may get that red triangle of death and then it just won't start. If you don't drive your car long distances, like me, your aux battery isn't getting fully charged. The charging cycle on Prisuses is LONG, as in, a dead battery requiring a jump start will need to be charged for about EIGHT HOURS to be fully charged, I did not know this. Mine died recently and I've just learned (from Prius Chat!) that it's a good idea to invest in a trickle charger to plug up to your aux battery and keep it nice and charged. Driving these cars is kind of a science, and these issues can be so annoying, but hey, it beats the hell out of having a blown head gasket or a bad fuel pump.

    Alert! There's a plug under the car to drain that water out. It's in the area behind the right rear wheel and very outboard close to the fender. It's about an inch in diameter and if you pull it out, it's like opening a faucet. Look for leaks under and behind the black strip of plastic that runs the length of the car roof.

    More than likely your connector that you noticed was wet is corroded. Very common on these. Usually the fan circuit acts up and the battery pack starts heating up. Try pulling the connector apart and see if you notice any corrosion. Try moving it around and do voltage drop tests. If you have access to a more advanced scanner you can command the fan on and move the connector and see if it effects the fan. Just my 2 cents before replacing the pack.

    • @my2daylife932
      @my2daylife932  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much for the feedback!! I actually did check the connectors for any corrosion and found the connectors clean. Unfortunately for me, my car reached 400 thousand miles on its original battery so it gave out. I had no choice but to replace the battery. I also have a video on that if interested.

  • @michael47lamb

    Water leaking in is a really common issue for these old Prius'. Water causes a small voltage leak in the battery pack monitoring electronics. The computer can detect this and generate all kinds of error codes. However this guy may also have a failing HV module in the battery pack. He may also have a failing 12v battery (these cars are notorious for the 12v battery getting weak if the car sits for many weeks.) Have the 12v battery tested at a auto parts store, this is usually free too. Replace it if necessary.
    A good idea for troubleshooting the HV pack is to get a free copy of Dr. Prius at Google Play and the OBD2/bluetooth adapter that works with it for about $12 on Amazon. With these you can see what the HV pack modules are doing in real time. Dr. P also reads most Prius error codes. If you have a few modules that are not doing too well you can replace just those modules for a couple hundred bucks, plus a boat load of DIY work.

    I read somewhere that there is a small rubber DRAIN PLUG that you can pop out on both sides for the little compartment where that water was pooling. This should drain the water. The water dripping on the fan connection is no good. It will short the fan circuit, which stops the cooling of the HYBRID battery and essentially kill the car at some point.

    Have u had any problems with the fuel gauge where it reads 2-3 bars left but it won't start? Apparently the fuel pump sending sensor stops working properly. already happening to me. My 07 won't start even though there's like 6 gallons left of fuel. I just go get another 6 gallons and car works like nothing happened. Unfortunately toyota doesn't sell the fuel pump by itself u have to buy the whole fuel tank assembly for $1,100 or buy it at the junk yard but you might get another one with the same problem.

    Maybe your use of "Super Weatherstrip Adhesive" worked, or maybe it will fail sooner than RTV silicone, or urethane caulking which are better suited for what you are attempting to do. Super Weatherstrip Adhesive is simply a strong rubber cement intended primarily to hold rubber weatherstripping to metal surfaces. It has a minimal thickness, dries quickly, and is hard once it dries, because it's a glue. RTV is an adhesive and a caulk, intended to fill gaps and have the flexibility to resist cracking from vibration and the flexing of the metal body. Urethane caulking is the toughest caulking and what the manufacturers use to fill gaps between uni-body parts. I came here to your video looking for a solution to the"Red Triangle of Death."

    • @my2daylife932
      @my2daylife932  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Philip Oien. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the weatherstrip adhesive. I will definitely look for some RTV silicone to make sure it doesn't happen again. The only solution for me at that time was a refurbished hybrid battery from a company called Green bean battery. I went with them because of the life time warranty they offer. The red triangle could be different types of problems. When i got the red triangle the first thing i did was plug in my obd2 scan tool to check the codes. The code i got was P0A80 indicating a problem with the hybrid battery.Thats what i repaired and the triangle came off. Best of luck 👍 Thanks for watching!

    These old Prius' are notorious for small water leaks around the hatch. This will cause all sorts of errors in the HV system since the moisture corrodes all sorts of connections in the HV pack. Best things to do are first find and fix the leaks. These are usually near the lift struts and around the seams of the hatch.
    Next thing to do is check the strength of the 12v battery since a weak 12v will also cause lots of error codes. Have the battery load tested at a auto parts store. The next thing to do if the errors continue is take off the HV pack cover and examine all the pins to the computer and the other connectors for corrosion. BE very careful NOT to damage the gold plating on the pins as you clean them as needed. Scratching off the gold WILL accelerate more corrosion on those pins and cause you MUCH bigger problems later. Like melted connectors and burnt wire ends. Lots of new errors too.

      @@my2daylife932 That is good to hear. Old Prius' can be a lot of expensive fun! ;-) Since you have now sunk a large sum of money into an old car you will probably be thinking you will keep it forever. I know I would anyway. LOL So the next fix you should be expecting is the wheel bearings. You can DIY them and is not too terrible to do with the right tools. Otherwise expect about $400 per wheel bearing at a shop. What year is your Prius anyway?

      @@my2daylife932 Here is a trick I learned from a guy on youtube about getting rusty old Prius bearings out. At least it worked wonderfully on the rear bearings on my 2003.
      Get a couple 10 inch long half inch dia bolts or all-thread with nuts and washers. Then knock out 2 or 3 of the lug studs on the old car bearing. Insert a bolt into the hole while at the same time threading a washer and nut onto the bolt end going in. Continue treading the nut on until the end of the bolt touches the back plate of the bearing mounting point. Do the same with the other lug hole. Once both bolts are set to push the bearing out off the car the rest is easy peezy. Be sure to hold the bolt still with a wrench as you crank down on the nuts and the entire bearing assem will jack itself off the car!
      Of course there are many other ways to get a bearing off, but this one was a game changer for me. No more hammering like a madman and sweating like a pig. Also 2 bolts and nuts are much cheaper than special bearing and hub tools are!

      @Sagan Android. When this happened the car had exact mileage of 375k on the engine. The video shows the mileage of 243k, thats because i had to replace my odometer to continue tracking my mileage once i hit 299k. It doesn't go over that. Thanks for watching 👍

      @@my2daylife932 You just blew my mind. I have seen a Gen 2 Prius with 430K on the odometer. Maybe it was a later Gen 2. I am amazed that you needed to phsyically replace the odo. Tell us more!

      @Sagan Android. I have a 2005 prius and for this year the odometer doesn't roll over 299k. What i did was found another 2005 with lower mileage and just swapped out my dash/odometer. The 2004-2005 are the ones that stay stuck at 299k. Next time i hit 299k i will make a video on swapping the odometer. The 2006-2009 models dont have this problem. Lucky me! 🤣🤣👍

    молдинг на крыше сними слева и с права, он легко отщелкивается потянув вверх его. там будет трещина в лакокрасочном через которую заливается вода. еще 10 лет назад было известно об всех протечках в багажнике приуса. на английский язык переводить не хочу, сам используй транслятор.

      @@my2daylife932 OK BRO, remove the roof molding on the left and right, it easily snaps off by pulling it up. there will be a crack in the paintwork through which water is poured. even 10 years ago, it was known about all the leaks in the trunk of the Prius.
