  • Shadow justice secretary Shabana Mahmood says the Met have "not covered themselves in glory" after an antisemitism campaigner was called "openly Jewish" by an officer and threatened with arrest for trying to cross a pro- Palestinian march.
She says, however, that she doesn't agree with calls for the Metropolitan Police chief to resign.

So the Chief of the Met resigns because an ordinary copper said something that was inappropriate - and it was.
And yet we had a Home Office Minister describing the marches as ‘hate marches’.
Ordinary copper. One of the most senior politicians in the country.
Meanwhile the loose cannon went to Israel to stir things up! She should be sacked not allowed to resign.

Surprise surprise this Labour spokesperson doesn't think the Met Chief should resign...if this would have been an EDL rally and a police officer told a Muslim the same thing this person would be screaming at the top of lungs for the Met Chief to resign

Labour is dead. Starmer has built a 1990s conservative party. The overton window is firmly entrenched to the Right. The Tories are a hard right extremist group masquerading as a right wing party. Labour are a right of center conservative group masquerading as a left of center party. All vestiges of Left wing ideologies have been expelled from the party. As a long term Labour supporter and living in the Red Wall, I cant vote for them, and will be supporting the independant Jamie Driscoll, along with every traditional Labour voter I know.

Bang on - Bear in mind Jewish people regularly attend and march in these protests.
The man in question here went to the protest with a cameraman and a team of bodyguards, in an attempt to purposefully disrupt and antagonise the event.
The officer's language was clumsy and wrong - no doubt, but let's not pretend that this man just "happened to stumble" across the march. He went there in bad faith, fishing for a story.
