  • SCAM by the Immigration Officer in Phu quoc Island Vietnam.🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
They let us pay 2,500,000.00VDN claiming we overstayed. And REFUSED to give us receipt which is PURE ILLEGAL!
    I am posting this because:
    1. Vietnam Embassy in Switzerland told us last August 2023 in an Email that we are allowed to stay 30days without evisa using our Philippine Passports in Phu quoc Island Vietnam.
    2. Upon Arrival Immigration Officers in Phu quoc Island Vietnam told us that we are allowed to stay 30days in the Island of Phu quoc but 21days if we go to mainland Vietnam.
    3. They took 2,500,000.00VDN as penalty charged without giving us receipts upon leaving Phu quoc Island claiming we overstayed. Which is pure ILLEGAL!
    Important Information:
-We arrived directly in Phu quoc Island from Bangkok last Dec 6 2023 and left the Island directly to Hongkong last Jan 4 2024. We stayed the whole time in the Island. We have hotel bookings, photos and videos as evidences.
-Based on our research any tourist can stay in the Island of Phu quoc without visa as long as you only stay in the Island and not visit mainland Vietnam. It means direct flight entering ang leaving the Island.Below are links:
    *vinpearl.com/.....
    * www.vietnam-im....
-We started recording the video when they said we cannot pay by card upon payment for the penalty charged they are claiming for overstaying.
-They did not Apologize nor Thanked us. They were very unfriendly.
-As of this moment no RECEIPT was given to us.
    CORRUPTION IS NOT AN OPTION!
This is not about the money this is all about ILLEGAL doings of government officers in Phu quoc Island Vietnam.🇻🇳
Please help me share this for awareness to all Travelers going to Phu quoc Vietnam or anywhere in the World where government officials are using their positions to scam people.

I have a similar situation. I have a 5 year visa which allowed me to stay for up to 90 days. The officer gave me a stamp for 14 days. I didn't even notice the date on the stamp until the day I was flying back. They asked me to go into a room. My flight was literally going to depart without me. I explained my situation, however they didn't want to accept that it was their mistake. They said I should have checked the date before leaving the immigration area. They gave me a temporary override, I did not have to pay. The officer wanted to help me past security because I was going to be late. His colleague didn't want to help. He wanted me to join the queue from the back. I arrived at the gate with minutes to spare before closure. It was pretty much a hell experienced. They need to be nicer to visitors.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
Officially my passport allows me 30 days visa free into Vietnam, but sometimes the immigration officer stamps 30, 29 or 28 days validity on my passport. I'm not sure why.
So I always play it safe and depart one day before the stamped validity date, to prevent any issues like the one you faced.

I entered the country a week ago and am allowed to stay for 15 days. The officer asked me about the duration, I answered two weeks and he stamped for 13 days. I kinda laughed about it and didn't bother correcting it, since my departure is exactly on the day he stamped. Reading your comment explains why he might have done it. Hope they won't shake me down when I leave 😅

These customers don't understand the rules so they misunderstood. At first Immigration officer gave them 2 options: 1. If they only stay in Phu Quoc island, they can stay temporarily for 30 days
    2. If they want to go to the mainland, it will only last 21 days
Customers who choose the possibility of going to the mainland can only stay for 21 days. But after that they didn't go to the mainland but only stayed in Phu Quoc so they thought they could still get 30 days, but in reality their stay stamp was only 21 days so when they checked, it was overstayed. the fine is 1,25 million VND/1 person × 2 = 2,5 million VND for 2 pax. The fine is correct according to regulations, but the immigration can't get a receipt for the customer right away. The Immigration help to create quick penalties so customers can go quickly, but they misunderstandings.

Vietnam is still very corrupted. I traveled to Thailand, Japan and China with out any problem. But when I got to Vietnam they asked me "where is the money for coffee?"
It's so ridiculous and sad because they have no shame.
Just don't go there until it's changed but I highly doubted.

I thing you really get misstask buy yourself. You just thing that if you only stay in Phu Quoc you can stay for 30day, but the real is if they stamp for you 21 day, so you are not in case of 30 day free visa

So….OP or whoever is in the video has a choice of exemptions 21 days (Philippine passport) or 30 days (Phu Quoc exemption). Entered on the 21 days, got that stamped on their passport. Stayed 30 days. Got fined. Nothing to see here.
Stick to the rules and you're fine.

Because your husband is swiss it makes it okay? Because he is swiss they stung you badly. Vietnam is the lapdog of china the country that gave the world the Wuhan virus. Remember that and they lied.

    1. Whenever you chose to use Philippin passport that means you only can stay in VietNam or PhuQuoc 21 days there is not 2 choices here ( only one choice, asean people have another rules that is the convention between 2 country VN and Philipin). your husband can stay 30 days in Island as same as all people in the world . Stick to the rules and you will understand.
    2. The fine is 1.25 million VND for 1 person correctly. 3. The immigration officers help to create the penalties so you can go quickly instead of you can miss your flight, you dont understand that your flight is boarding and the receipt will take maybe a long time to get.

We had an issue with a Visa in Hanoi as well. The immigration by mistake put wrong year and it was clear that it's a mistake. So we got it fixed right away by the officers there.
So it seems more like clumsiness that corruption, but your concerns are also valid.
on the side note, I'd remove the name of the VietJet worker from the video, unless he gave you a clear approval to mention him in public video. He's not a representative of the public services and his privacy is important. You as a resident of European country should be much more sensitive about this .

  • @wl88168
    @wl88168 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The whole situation looks fishy all round according to what was shown on the video. There may have been nuances missed.
HOWEVER, what seemed clear to me is that it doesn't matter what you get told verbally or was stated in the email from the Viet Embassy in Switzerland the only valid travel-immigration authorization is your visa, immigration passport stamps AND the validity date on all those authorizations.
From the sounds of it, you did overstay according to your passport stamp. NEVER GO AROUND CANVASSING FOR DIFFERING VERBAL OPINIONS. anyone and everyone will likely say different with how complex rules and regulations are these days for the many different countries.
i reckon the immigration officer took the opportunity to get himself some COFFEE money due to your oversight in overstaying.
Remember, ONLY THE VALIDITY DATE ON YOUR PASSPORT STAMP MATTERS no other document is accepted as authorized period of stay.
so ALWAYS check your inward passport stamp before leaving the counter. even then once mistakenly stamped, immigration may refuse to rectify it there and then and you will be told to go get the correction done at the immigration office. not ideal but then you know and have time to go get it rectified before you get into an overstay situation.
interesting to know if you will be providing this evidence to the Viet Embassy in Switzerland and what the outcome will be.

The biggest question is why would anyone ever go to Nam after seeing this? Way too much bs and way too much hassle to even enter. This isn't even worth it especially considering they can do the same thing when you are exiting the country and stop you from leaving if you don't pay up
