Loving the chaotic energy of the group! The GM wanted a comedic tone, and the players ran with it 😂 On the archery at melee, there was a YT creator that did a simulation of using longbow in DnD melee range of 5ft and it did not do much damage (bounced off the target) vs 10ft (pierced the target)
One thing to point out is that this only had one combat encounter if the party has 2-3 encounters there at the end depending on rolls during their short rests they might not have very good armor or HP
Think about the Fellowship besieged by Orcs at the end of the first movie. Legolas does use his bow in melee range. Of course, anybody rushing an archer who still has arrows ought to expect "death by misadventure."

About your concern regarding rolls with fear outside of combat as a DM: You can always just give the player a stress point if they rolled with fear and its not combat. A really cool example I heard from another player was as a fungril they connected to the hivemind, but rolled with fear, so they connected to the right person to ask their question, but the conversation was interrupted by the last thoughts of another fungril dying in a far away village, and it gave a stress mark as a result of that experience. But it doesn't need to be that serious, like you could say if a player is trying to persuade someone and rolled well enough to succeed, but with fear, maybe the attempt was really stressful, they had some anxiety so they mark a stress point. Or maybe the person isn't fully convinced by the argument, but they found the player an anxious little bean and took pity on them. Similarly, some people used damage for certain rolls too, like let's say the player is trying to climb up a wall, maybe if they succeed with fear they mark a mild injury as they pulled a muscle or hit their arm or leg bc they almost slipped or a rock gave out and broke. It gives exploration a bit of danger without it being as punishing as exhaustion is in DnD for example. You can even tell the player up-front: You rolled a success with fear - So, mid climb you realize that you CAN climb this wall if you continue, but you know for sure that you will have to overexert yourself if you do. If you go down now, you'll be fine, but if you continue to climb, you will take a mild injury. Your choice.
Ohhhh that's spooky, I just had that idea myself earlier today and wrote it in my Google doc for future campaign settings. Imagine the party arriving in the City of Tears, with the constant rain and the empty buildings 😙🤌
At 1:08:00, they talk about shooting a bow and arrow at melee range. In my experience at LARP it is impossible to attack with a bow while defending against a melee attack. You might be able to deflect a blow with a bow in hand but if you don't have a weapon in your off hand you probably won't be able to attack back..
I made a monk style character. Giant, guardian, and at level 5 multiclass to warrior. Think of an MMA grappler. I'm unarmed and took the ability to move targets when I hit them. Warrior gave me advantage to grapple, although I can't find the rules that explain grapple. I took arcane gauntlets, for magical boxing gloves. I also took the card that allowes me to not wear any armor.
Grapple is a unarmed attack that does no damage. It uses strength and if you are a warrior you get advantage. The rules don't say what it does though. Restrained is mentioned in the rules and that means you can't move.
There are some things that you can only do once per session but in some cases, if you want to have a cliff hanger you might want to "extend" the session to include the 1st encounter of the next session.
As a note to play a monk you would probably play as a warrior, take instinct and agility as the highest scores and use the hand runes because that is a weapon that uses instinct
As for how to “punish” players for failing at rolls, the book talks about just having them mark stress, there are enough ways to recover it and the game mostly wants you to use it as an out of combat health bar that further connects your in combat and out of combat gameplay together. In other words a way to still have high stakes “mechanically speaking” when your at the ball with political figures or when your party is being followed, and you fail to cover your tracks. It could look like “you’ve offended one of the lords at the ball and things are tense now, it’s becoming harder to recognize who your friends are in this ballroom, take a stress” or “you know this tracker is prolific, he could be watching you right now, take a point of stress, as anxiety gets the better of you”
any class can be a monk class. choose the magic gauntlets or the rune fists to punch with..and take experiences to make a monk..ez, worksbetter with some classes and cards so you dont have to wear armor.
to let you know i think they are using the term "fairy" as in any magical creature. i do remember in CR one shot it was asked what size he was cause in fae terms and in this a fairy can be from Diminutive to human size and they dont have to have wings. that does give a more open choices. oh and if i remember the card is of a angel that still fits the fairy theme if done this way.
Couldn't you put the Arcane Gauntlets (strength, melee, d10+2, two-handed) onto a Warrior and play them like a monk? or would that not translate correctly in this system? I hope it does, because that's what I made for my first character lol XD
I am a little unsure of the wording, but I think you need to be a spellcaster class to use magical damage weapons. So Maybe a seraph with magic gauntlets would be the most similar to monks. Flavor smite as ki or some shit, go unarmored defense card. Idk it's all still up in the air, maybe they are planning a monk class or something.
@@tinius9276 Considering that it says the Arcane Gauntlets use the "Strength" stat, that would be weird to me if only mages could use them, but I guess I can see that as a possibility as well. Good idea with the Seraph as a monk. I like that too. 😃 Why do you think only spell casters can use the Arcane Gauntlets? Was something similar mentioned during a video, or in the rule book, or are you just assuming that's how it would work? I'm curious if it's mentioned anywhere so I know for my current and future characters. 😄
@@MissZombieFAIL Upon further inspection it seems to clearly state in the current beta materials under the playtest manuscript DOC that magic weapons require classes that have a spellcast modifier on their foundation card. In the playtest manuscript it is written in Part One under Choosing Equipment that you have a choice of choosing magic weapons if you have a spell cast modifier on the foundation card. In the same DOC under the later Equipment chapter, and specifically under the Weapon statistics it is written above the stats of the magic weapons "requires the spellcast ability" as a prerequisite to using those weapons. However, I wouldn't be surprised if this was changed in the future. Or maybe even it becomes popular to homebrew the rule away as I dont see a major reason for it to break the game at least at this moment in time. I honestly would commend you to play without the rule and submit a survey if it seems more fun without the rule, and maybe see if there are ways to break the game without the rule. @@MissZombieFAIL the manuscript says you must have a spellcasting trait to weild magical weapons. The Seraph class use strength as their spellcasting ability!
Hmm. I am watching this to see the flow and rules of the RPG system. I don't think you can dual wield two handed weapons that way? Is it stack the damage rolls or roll both weapons'damage and choose the highest? I was in the mind of the former, but I may have read it wrong. If not, dual wielding seems very broken even for a narrative system. Can someone clarify?
It occurs to me that since the Ribbet can make an "unarmed" attack with their tongue that indicates that unarmed combat is possible, though unless RAW presents it the decision as to the damage of the attack is up to the GM.
I believe that is why they wanted a token tracker specific to each player. So when the game master can see certain players not doing anything they can ask them or help the party show not everybody has really had a turn let's share lol

I'm 40 minutes in, and I want to point out that toads *are* frogs. Taxonomy-wise, they're all the same order of animals, we just commonly use the word "toad" for bigger frogs with drier and bumpier skin. So "frogs, toads, and the other types" are just all frogs 😂
I, uh, tuned in for a beta test and found a bunch of 15-year olds yucking it up! I lost it when they “rallied in the moist slit!” What I’m trying to say is, I think I found my tribe! 😁😂
I legit hate this system. I really tried to force myself to like it, but it just has a lot of mechanics that I've seen in other TTRPGs that I HATE. I really feel like this system is only getting the love it does because who made it, otherwise if this came out on kickstarter most people would recoil from the mechanics.
Tell the women to not be concerned by their appearance once they are on air, and to stay off their phones. No phones in studio. Take the imaginative continuity characters more seriously, break rp a little less. Attention fully on the rp partner in the moment, not trying to effect an entertaining result, but enjoying the moment yourself as if no audience. Enrol in improv class while you do the show. If you guys actually get the RP down, it will be very successful. Really, it's a showcase of acting talent that makes this, not just attractive team (though that helps alot)
Whoa, why are they basically playing caricatures? Why does this feel like I stepped into a chaotic children’s cartoon? They’re playing these characters at 100 and it’s turning the story into immersion breaking nonsense. Amadeus break a window to bust in when no threat has been identified. That puts the GM off now because how do you play off that Urassmus is not angry at them for compromising their safe house or terrified thinking they might be a danger. The response of, “well you seem alright, come on up” is not rational and breaks the integrity of the story by removing consequence and value. If it took little thinking or effort to get something then it diminishes the victory. You got into the building by breaking the window instead of using the door like a sane person, hooray! The guy weirdly will still trust you and give you what you need to progress the story because it HAS to happen and not because you did the right or smart thing, hooray?? I get it’s a game but also that sorta stuff destroys the game to have no limitations. Chess isn’t chess without the rules and even in a narrative driven, low numbers crunching game like this has the rules, their just in the abstract instead of the literal. If the pieces can go anywhere without consequence then you don’t have a game anymore, you just have moving little figures on a checkered board. The spirit and meaningfulness of the game is now lost because victories and losses will be robbed of meaning. I love silliness and fun, but where it logically makes sense in a ttrpg/story. I’m curious if this is how they would normally play or if they’re drumming it up and being more ridiculous for attention. In my case I know they have lost mine.
We play a very serious campaign every Saturday in our Dragonlance Shadow Of The Dragon Queen actual play on the channel here. This was silly, but it was just a break from that if you're looking for something more reality focused.
You do realize there are quite a few other campaigns that are done in this style right?(vldl, oxventure, etc) This is my first time watching this group and they earned my sub with this cause it was hella fun to watch. It's cool to have different flavors of games bro
@@NerdyNightly I see, thanks for the clarification. I found this channel by looking for people running this game so I’m not familiar with the norm. Sorry if my criticism comes off rude or harsh. If this isn’t representative of the norm and was more silly and relaxed then that’s understandable. I’m also just pretty passionate when it comes to narrative, character design, and games as an art form and storytelling medium. It was just a very jarring beginning. And as someone who empathizes with a GM’s effort to craft a setting, characters, and general plot adventure for the players to engage with, it’s upsetting when stuff like that happens. The feeling is like inviting your friend to come build legos with you and then they build a boulder and smashes it into the house you were just starting to show off to them. Thats the best analogy I can imagine for why it was hard to continue watching.
@@DeletarTepes of course, but I’m still gonna explain why this wasn’t appealing to me because feedback, even when it’s negative, can be useful so long as it’s specific and well explained. If you enjoyed it that’s fine. This sort of cavalier play style isn’t my jam, at least not when it isn’t explained before hand that the adventure is meant to be more loosey goosey goofy. I usually prefer when it’s taken with a bit more seriousness because it feels more respectful towards the GM to do so. All that time and effort to put the adventure together, I’d want to treat the setting with respect.

So Angela from Eragon was right??? (Sorry if this reference is too niche ahha)
"Otherwise it would take 3-4 hours" proceeds to run for 5 + hours...
So...Canada's best RPG live is kinda like Canada's Air Force: there is one.
"there's no spells with a d12"
Welp: Toll the dead is d12s sometimes, and that's a cantrip
This is hilarious cause Brian just took Toll The Dead in our main campaign... He should know his spells 😂
Vex is a half elf not a goblin.
I, uh, tuned in for a beta test and found a bunch of 15-year olds yucking it up! I lost it when they “rallied in the moist slit!”
What I’m trying to say is, I think I found my tribe! 😁😂
You'd probably love our book club too then 😂😂
Reading - one of the things I most enjoy and have the least time to do! (I’m very much busy writing!) 😁
Honestly... why not make improvised weapons based on your skill.

Really, it's a showcase of acting talent that makes this, not just attractive team (though that helps alot)
or maybe let them play however they want? Each group experiences ttrpgs differntly, specially when learning a new system
First!
You seem like a very unfun person.
