I'm going to have to apologise to Hyundai. I'm in my mid fifties and I love this car and feel it could replace my 4 year old Kona EV. The future is looking very bright.
Also in my 50s and this car looks great. And I live in rural Ireland so I'm definitely not the target demo. Finally a car built for Irish roads. And yes, the car's name is awful.
This is so cool. It's going to sell so well in the UK. They've finally realised cheap electric cars don't need to be boring and that interior especially looks nicer than anything under £30K. Glad to see it also has all of the tech you expect from a more expensive car, including the heat pump as standard, it's going to be a much better proposition than the E-C3 and the new Fiat Panda. I don't think anything is going to come close for the money. I'd even choose this over the BYD Dolphin etc.
Im a Fan of Citroën but I prefer this one too because the Citroen is another generic looking suv whereas the Hyundai stands out and for me the interior is worth gold with the space and the foldable and movable seats
They may be aiming for the younger customers, however I think this will sell well across all age groups, from younger to smaller families and older I can see it serving all them well and appealing to them.
Completely agree that this is the sort of EV car which manufacturers should be making at an affordable price point. It is much harder to do this well than do all the “premium” stuff. I admire what Citroen have and also Dacia. I hope this sells well.
I love that the seats are foldable 💯 & that they didn't try to sell it as a 5 seater. Families of 5 with a single car are rare and that's not the kind of car they would buy anyway. Cargo space is what gives the versatility. The name is the only thing I don't like but I'm also not a gen Z so... Well done Hyundai.
family of 5 is 3 kids? I dont know one 3 kid family that has more than one car, they cant afford it. They all buy second hand anyway, and this car is of no use to them, because they have one kid going 2 towns over for a match, another going to a karate competition a town the other way and another to be picked up from the town they live in. They nearly all get second hand ford c-max or s-max because they like to bring the neighbours kids if they can... If you know someone with kids and they buy this car, even one kid, then they are very greedy, they are going to have to get neighbours to bring their kids on longer trips and never once offer to bring the neighbours kids anywhere far.
This is the coolest looking car ever, fiat panda was my favourite looking car but this just kills it. All I need in my car collection is the canoo 7 seater and that’s me done for life.
I have had a 2019 Kona EV, a 2022 Kona EV, and now the 2024 Kona EV. All amazing cars with the latter unbelievably amazing! It looks like the Inster will have a big impact on those switching to an electric vehicle. It's affordable, well made and very roomy inside. Hats off to Hyundai with yet another great car!
@@TheAllMightyGodofCod OK, my first 2019 Kona didn't have an App, and an App here in Norway in winter is a must, especially at -32c when you need to pre-heat the cabin remotely. My 2nd 2022 face-lift model did have the App, but our situation changed with the arrival of grandchildren and found the boot size a bit on the small size. I now have the 2024 Kona EV which is a completely new car. The only thing they kept is the name. The luggage and interior space are far superior than the previous model, and I intend to keep the car for a very long time.
Wonderful overview, Ginny. It's nice to see a light coloured interior which helps the car feel more spacious and cooler on sunny days. Most Kia and Hyundai cars in North America have basic black interiors.
Looks like a brilliantly practical little car and also not skimped on the equipment either which is great! I know lots of people who have stepped up to a segment above what they want/need only because the equipment they want isn't available in the smaller car. I used to have a first generation A-Class, this certainly has more rear legroom but the versatility of the interior reminds me of that.
I have a Kona 39kwh (2020), since the last 3 years and its been my only and main car. With the average maximum range of 250km (155miles) and its been perfectly fine. Inster with its +200miles range would be a nice upgrade for me to be honest :). I absolutely love my Kona and its long warranty.
The simple legroom-Vs-bootspace slider is amazing. We have talked about this many times. You see a nice car but with cramped backseat priotising bootspace. The seats should slide for tall people who dont need boot space. Very simple yet a major utility value.
I freaking love k cars, I wish the EU made a category for them, so we can have cheaper insurance and taxes so they are finally properly sold here. in the mean while this is probably good enough, although I really want slidy doors, I was considering a second-hand Citroen e-Berlingo, but this will probably take its place (i like camping).
fiat 500 is one of the most expensive cars I can insure, its just under cars like the nissan leaf. Something like a vw golf gt, is about half the price in insurance, it goes from about 1200, to about 700, and something like a mazda 3 is half that again about 300... it can vary from car to car, because an older corsa can be more expensive than a golf gti even tho its a 1l corsa... but i cant get cheap insurance on any electric car. Not that it matters, I live in a city and have to park on the street.
Love it!! I’m taking delivery of a 24 Kona electric in a week but perhaps when I retire and downsize for retirement in 5 years this might be the next car!😊
I’m assuming that the Kia EV2 will be based on the same platform. Was that mentioned at your launch event by any chance? I see a bit of Honda-E in the round headlights, a nice reference, and the same round reference at the back. Love the front turn signal and tail light designs. Stunning! Love the space inside - beats anything from Stellantis, that all have terrible, almost non-existent, rear legroom (deal breaker). Hyundai and Kia are REALLY nailing everything these days, especially style, quality, equipment specification, fun factor and driving experience.
I have a feeling that some of the designers from Kia went through the wrong door at the office. The Inster has a Soul design and the new design of the Kona Electric looking more like the E-Niro. And then sprinkled some Ioniq wibe on them.
It amazes me that so many motoring journos fail to realise that "City Cars" can be just as useful as any other car, especially when so much of the internal volume is not taken up with engine and transmission. Don't get me wrong, I love large and high performance vehicles but the reality is that we rarely use the performance or the space. So wtf do we need electric cars to follow the form factors of ICE cars? If you can get 6'6" and a 6'2" people one behind the other, why do we need a car to be any bigger? I regularly spend long hours on motorways and, with the exception of the holidays, I rarely see more than 20% of cars with more than two people in them, yet everybody seems to think that they need to "Impress" the population with some sort of floating gin palace on wheels! And the reality is that it is perfectly possible to use a "City Car" for all a family's needs. I know, we had a Hyundai Atoz as our only family car for about 3 years. It already had over 250k on the clock when we got it and did another 350k before it finally died. And a lot of that mileage was on m/ways. At least with an equivalent EV we wouldn't have the engine singing along with every mile (we actually called it The Singer because the engine sounded more like a sewing machine than a car). With adaptive cruise control and all the other typical gear of modern cars, I really don't see the need for anything more. Do I want one? Yes (and this is the first one of these ultra cheap, FWD EVs that has tempted me) but I don't know whether I can live without the flexibility that a van offers, but that is another story, and one that is completely irrelevant to 90+% of people.. Maybe we can get one of these and a cheap van for when those specific needs arise.
I love your comment...only one reason for a much bigger ioniq 5.... Anyone who regularly pulls a trailer cannot do that with this car...I do not expect this car / battery size capable of pulling 1600 kg...which more or less is the weight of a 2 person glider including trailer...or a one horse trailer. I call this a perfect second car.
@@reiniernn9071 The fact is that there are plenty of medium sized vehicles that can't tow that much. I also need to tow quite regularly (and it's one of the things that annoys me about BYD in Euroland; the company just doesn't have their models homologated for towing... GRRRR). In my case, it's to lug loads of firewood. What really annoys me about the whole subject is the way people invent reasons for having absolutely mahoosive cars, yet they rarely have more than driver and passenger. And we all know thgat they're inventing reasons to justify destroying the planet.
Echoing what somebody else mentioned - I currently own a Suzuki Ignis and this is like a more modern funky version. Very similar in shape and with the moveable back seats etc. I love my Ignis so this is going right on my list to check out when they become available.
Love this car. Love the movable rear seats and the fact that they fold flat. Love the interior design. Great that it gets a heat pup as standard. Love the fact that's not just another clone SUV. This isn't just for gen Z - I'm definitely not in that bracket and love it. If this does come in starting at £22k a lot of other manufacturers are going to have to rethink their pricing. Just a slightly bigger boot (when carrying passengers) and range (at least 250m) and it'd be perfect 🙂 If I hadn't just ordered the dolphin (to replace my iD3) the Inster would definitely have been high up on my shortlist.
Tbh I don’t think it will be a hit with GenZ, most get their first car paid by parents and their are petrolheads , maybe if they attract the girlies just like the mini and fiat 500
Nothing will make Honda and Toyota produce affordable vehicles. They will only survive if they produce profitable vehicles. As have the US automakers, Honda and Toyota will cede the small EV market to other companies.
This is the best electric car interior I have ever seen at this price point. So retro kinda. Cyberpunk is the right word. Hyundai is the best right now.
between the forwards foldable front seat and the v2l system, its the perfect car for those of us who like camping. the power should be enough. ive driven a 30kWh Leaf from sea level all the way to one of the highest elevation highway passes in Europe and it never ran out of power the way some of the petrol cars with similar horsepower(109hp) do. so the whole "not enough power for the highway" is just silly unless you want to do some mad overtaking.
This is what the new Panda should be. My mk3 twinair panda was brilliant. It also had the sliding rear seats and fold flat front seats. It was so versatile and this looks the same. Real buttons too. I feel this could be as cool as the Honda e but actually with a usable range.
Agreed. Bit of a dodgy name aside, it is a lovely and characterful package, I'm keen to try one, and if I go electric this would suit my needs completely... maybe I could remove the name badge on the back?
Ginny is that a smiley face, looks a bit grumpy, it’s like its been forgotten in a garage or almost empty car park. I have seen photos of the previous versions (petrol) and they looked more sporty/utilitarian.
OMG, this is the perfect car! It's doing the sliding rear sits just like my 16yo Toyota Yaris, and has plenty of pockets and storage spaces, almost half of my 16yo Toyota Yaris, and it costs just over 10 times what I paid for my Toyota Yaris (with delivery to a shop and new clutch kit + fluids, breaks, etc.) 7 years ago (~£2000). And it's a great urban runabout with almost 1/3 of the range of my 16yo Toyota Yaris. And you can fold the rear seats flat and fit a matress then go camping in the parking lot at ASDA, so you can charge it and go back home the next day. BRILLIANT. I'm 10 fold greener that any EV driver by keeping my old Toyota yaris, which is about £200 a year with 2 oil changes and 1 planned part to renew (aftermarket ones, on the cheap side), and it still does the same milege to the gallon as advertised (if I drive sensibly, not economical). I drove this car on mountain paths where an Audi Q7 got stranded, but my little Betty didn't break a sweat. Drove it through mud uphill in 1st gear bouncing off the rev limiter for minutes, and she got me out of the woods on the rocky path on the first try. She had chunks of mud on top of it but didn't let me down. Had the water pump fail at 155K miles, and she went all the way to the parking clunking and grinding, where she finally gave up and spilled the antifreeze. She didn't left me stranded on the side of the road. I love this car and will never give it up until the end, and that's far from now. To be honest I knew the water pump was on its last legs 4-5 months before it failed. I drove Betty thousands of miles throughout Europe and only had good times. I bought it as a cheap runaround, and hated the looks, but it grew on me, and found so many features that I didn't know about as the time went. If you have a mk2 Yaris, did you know the rear seatbelts have child lock mode? or the rear doors have a little switch just under the latch that locks the door and it will open only from outside? and 9 airbags? imagine that...
Reminds me too much of a Honda E. The front in particular. Personally I don't like it too much but my wife seems to have fallen in love with this car due to its "cuteness". I suppose we'll have to go for a test drive when available.
This is a really good looking car. Nice face, with really nice arches, and the proportions look really good. The folding completely flat is a brilliant trick. My and the wife in our early days, toured dance Spain and Italy in a Laguna estate, with the rear seats down a double blow up mattress fit in. And when we was in the raid and stuck, we would just pull up, oil a BBQ and a crate of ale out the boot, few drinks food and sleep. To be able to do this in a small car is amazing. I would have really liked a golf sized ioniq 5. And call it a 3. I just put an order in for a Born, but an ioniq 3, would have probably got my business instead.
Classic looking instruments, physical buttons and knobs, real door handles, a super flexible interior and enough room inside while being a small and cheap car Now tell me it can tow a trailer as well and you have a car that will sell like crazy
This is kind of EVs we need more off. Can't wait for new electric Twingo replacement made by Renault and Geely.❤❤❤ Great video keep up with great work and greetings from sLOVEnia 😊😅
Not my kind of thing, but I'm glad it exists. It's an SUV that's not an SUV that I don't hate on sight, which takes some doing. Unlike other crossover... thingies... I think this might actually be useful to a lot of people and I could see it being used by an old Italian farmer somewhere. Big kudos on the physical buttons for the heater and aircon.
Other day I come to TH-cam, in the shorts section had a clip, Ginny´s Mozzarella sticks. I was like WHAT ? But it was another channel and another Ginny, but they got me for a moment. =) I can see it´s a fun car, you had a lot of fun without even driving it ! To me it looks bit like a Jeep Renegade.
Hey guys, what's with the annoying background repeating lift music!! Love the review, I always do, but some of the background tunes are really annoying!!
I think the USA will try to add tariffs to Korean imports next. I question the logic of two battery sizes when the difference between them is less than 17%. But from a battery resources point of view it definitely makes sense to give these options. We need to bring down the emissions of EV production by simplifying them, making them lighter, and keeping the battery sizes smaller. But there is a risk that by making EVs cheap (affordable), you also make them less likely to be maintained as long. The cheapest cars are relegated to scrap the quickest, because a major repair can make them cost ineffective to repair. I know that sound like a bad reason to keep car prices high, but sustainability requires us to build cars that last for very long time. Instead of seeking inexpensively produced cars people can afford, it might be better in the long run to build cars to last longer and be more easily repaired/maintained with interchangeable parts. We're trying to address a Climate Crisis through consumerism, and consumerism has never solved any real problems. Historically, it just creates new ones.
seems like a decent replacement for the hyundai i10/kia picanto as a city car, Funky styling with added height for easier access. if it comes with all that tech as the entry level then the price is about right, Although if they can get the entry level sub 20k then yeah
Honestly I have a i20 22 plate with a very bad purchase experience, but this small Hyundai EV very interesting 🤨 thank you for your presentation beautiful lady 👍🏻
Yep, we like the style a lot. It has some pros over the Citroën ë-C3 line. Mostly the flat cargo floor, the choice for 2 sizes of batteries that also come with a heatpump, the option for a open/glas roof and 1 pedal driving. The rest is design preferences. The pros for the ë-C3 seem to be the better comfort, the better suspension, more interior space and the fact that it is build in the EU could be an argument. Claimed range for the ë-C3 is 199 miles or 326km for the standard version of the 44kWh ë-C3, NOT the 165 miles that you claim. The standard version of the Hyundai Inter is 185 miles (300km) and for the 49kWh it is 217 miles according to the website of Hyundai itself. AND, the Citroën ëC3 is for sale, and the Inster is due for mid to late 2025? and the exact prices have yet to be revealed in the EU.
The petrol Kia Ceed SW (estate) starts at £23k new ... I have a 2016 model, it has been a brilliant load lugger, as I only do about 3,000 miles a year I'm afraid switching to an EV of this size won't save enough to pay for hiring a larger car for camping holidays, trips to the tip etc. As a lifestyle second car it will probably hit the spot.
It’s got Suzuki ignis vibes. I would multiply the battery size by 4 and that’ll be the range if you’re lucky for most of the year Will it be suitable for the motability scheme? Would be perfect for that

@@christopher4162 the folding front seats is a game changer. I've got a 2021 Kona Electric and it's been amazing.
An electric version of the amazing i10
They may be aiming for the younger customers, however I think this will sell well across all age groups, from younger to smaller families and older I can see it serving all them well and appealing to them.
Completely agree that this is the sort of EV car which manufacturers should be making at an affordable price point. It is much harder to do this well than do all the “premium” stuff. I admire what Citroen have and also Dacia. I hope this sells well.
It looks a cute Hippo from the front. Love it.
I like that you talk about each other. Was stunning that Jack fitted the back seat
We are a family of 5 with one car
family of 5 is 3 kids? I dont know one 3 kid family that has more than one car, they cant afford it. They all buy second hand anyway, and this car is of no use to them, because they have one kid going 2 towns over for a match, another going to a karate competition a town the other way and another to be picked up from the town they live in. They nearly all get second hand ford c-max or s-max because they like to bring the neighbours kids if they can... If you know someone with kids and they buy this car, even one kid, then they are very greedy, they are going to have to get neighbours to bring their kids on longer trips and never once offer to bring the neighbours kids anywhere far.
What a brilliant, brilliant car. It's basically a FIAT Panda EV, only cooler.
@@mikeymike1792 my thoughts. Better Panda than the one they are presenting.
No the ec3 is basically a fiat panda
This is the coolest looking car ever, fiat panda was my favourite looking car but this just kills it. All I need in my car collection is the canoo 7 seater and that’s me done for life.
You got me excited about a panda ev, I just googled it. eugh.
I used to have a panda 169. I really loved that car.
@@keithwhite9992 i know. Now look at it. And remember the former panda models.
Sorry for asking but if they are/were so great, why did you trade it in?
I mean, you didn't keep any more than 3 years, one just 2 years, why?
@@TheAllMightyGodofCod OK, my first 2019 Kona didn't have an App, and an App here in Norway in winter is a must, especially at -32c when you need to pre-heat the cabin remotely. My 2nd 2022 face-lift model did have the App, but our situation changed with the arrival of grandchildren and found the boot size a bit on the small size. I now have the 2024 Kona EV which is a completely new car. The only thing they kept is the name. The luggage and interior space are far superior than the previous model, and I intend to keep the car for a very long time.
Yet another car I _adore_ that won't come to North America, so I will never own one. Looks amazing. Hyundai _please_ bring this to Canada!
One of the best New City Cars arriving in the UK later this year 😊
Wonderful overview, Ginny.
This is very impressive for the price 👏
Reminds me of the Honda e, hopefully this one makes it to the US!
Brilliant car and review as always. 😎
Yep great car that resembles the gen 1 Kia soul. Which is also a great little EV.
Good video, better car. Hyundai seems to have nailed it. Can I get one in the U.S.?
We will never get cheaper insurance unless the government starts to genuinely impose proper regulations on insurance companies.
Really handy in many ways!
I am surpriced to see so much ideas/options in a car…
Lots of creativity in that small cheap(used relatively) car
So interesting seeing you next to it versus the tall bloke from fully Charged. It goes from Kei car to Crossover 😂
Indeed 😂
And neither lifted the bonnet/ hood. Is there a frunk?
@@robertmorley3609She said when talking about the boot that there's no frunk.
My first thought was "blimey, Ginny must be tiny!"
I don't like the name but I love everything else about this car
Yes Jack on Fully charged did a review yesterday on this car and he fit in it fine
I love it has a ignis panda vibe
Plus a Nissan Juke with those lights placed randomly at the front...
Love it!! I’m taking delivery of a 24 Kona electric in a week but perhaps when I retire and downsize for retirement in 5 years this might be the next car!😊
Should call it an Ioniq 1
it's not a bespoke EV so they chose not to.
Inster looks great!....Cant' wait for the "Outster".....😉
I’m assuming that the Kia EV2 will be based on the same platform. Was that mentioned at your launch event by any chance? I see a bit of Honda-E in the round headlights, a nice reference, and the same round reference at the back. Love the front turn signal and tail light designs. Stunning! Love the space inside - beats anything from Stellantis, that all have terrible, almost non-existent, rear legroom (deal breaker). Hyundai and Kia are REALLY nailing everything these days, especially style, quality, equipment specification, fun factor and driving experience.
A car we’ve Ben waiting for…absolutely.👏👏
“Didn’t she do well?!” “ A cuddly toy, a pen , a teasmaid. And the Best Damn Car I’ve seen in a long time”
This is a car for old people, it's tall, practical and cheap and the elderly don't care about the wonky looks.
I have a feeling that some of the designers from Kia went through the wrong door at the office.
The Inster has a Soul design and the new design of the Kona Electric looking more like the E-Niro. And then sprinkled some Ioniq wibe on them.
For me for now , this is the elétric car that makes sense.
Perfect size and price. Probably most will hit 30K I guess
Saw it in Korea and I loved the smaller version petrol 100hp. I wish they send it here
Love this car.
Step aside Genzeeee! Baby boomer wants one.
I'm not a massive EV fan, but that ticks the boxes.
Good work Hyundai.
100% agree, and I am not genzeee either, I'm skidding my way towards 50 and I really want one of these
Tbh I don’t think it will be a hit with GenZ, most get their first car paid by parents and their are petrolheads , maybe if they attract the girlies just like the mini and fiat 500
Hopefully this car will also make Honda and Toyota produce a similarly affordable vehicle. I love it.
Nothing will make Honda and Toyota produce affordable vehicles. They will only survive if they produce profitable vehicles. As have the US automakers, Honda and Toyota will cede the small EV market to other companies.
A welcome addition, I'm impressed
This is the best electric car interior I have ever seen at this price point. So retro kinda. Cyberpunk is the right word. Hyundai is the best right now.
An Ignis that’s eaten a Honda e
Looks great. The folding seats are particularly useful. I always liked the folding passenger seat in the VW Tiguan.
Way cute; this will be a BIG hit at southern California beaches. Bring it! Please!
between the forwards foldable front seat and the v2l system, its the perfect car for those of us who like camping. the power should be enough. ive driven a 30kWh Leaf from sea level all the way to one of the highest elevation highway passes in Europe and it never ran out of power the way some of the petrol cars with similar horsepower(109hp) do. so the whole "not enough power for the highway" is just silly unless you want to do some mad overtaking.
I’d love to see it in Canada. We really lack affordable EVs on the market
Lovely little thing! I can see them having problems keeping up with demand, which is a common problem.
This is what the new Panda should be. My mk3 twinair panda was brilliant. It also had the sliding rear seats and fold flat front seats. It was so versatile and this looks the same. Real buttons too. I feel this could be as cool as the Honda e but actually with a usable range.
Just realized why I love it so much! It is a Kei car!!! In Europe!!! Finally!!!!
Is Teddy a tribute to the Kia Hyundai Channel from Ontario Canada? They used him to measure trunk space. 😊
Really nice proposal: I would buy this car only for the buttons, nice interior.
I really like this car, think this will be my next electric car.
This looks amazingly practical. Please everyone buy it so I can pick up a used one in a few years!
Hyundai killing it🎉
Where's the pink/orange just like in thumbnails. Couldn't find it in the video
I want one
Looks good
Such a cool car, nice interior.
Classic looking instruments, physical buttons and knobs, real door handles, a super flexible interior and enough room inside while being a small and cheap car
Now tell me it can tow a trailer as well and you have a car that will sell like crazy
please show the front lock ? how is the look the motor head. ??? inside
This is kind of EVs we need more off. Can't wait for new electric Twingo replacement made by Renault and Geely.❤❤❤
Great video keep up with great work and greetings from sLOVEnia 😊😅
Not my kind of thing, but I'm glad it exists. It's an SUV that's not an SUV that I don't hate on sight, which takes some doing. Unlike other crossover... thingies... I think this might actually be useful to a lot of people and I could see it being used by an old Italian farmer somewhere. Big kudos on the physical buttons for the heater and aircon.
Yes I remember the generation game and a fantastic looking car
Is it available with a combustion engine for more power and range?
I need a large vehicle for work up north but this would be the perfect city car if they sold them in Canada
Not sure i could go back to wired android auto again tbh as i had wires and mess.
I hope the uk gets this cream colour one though
Other day I come to TH-cam, in the shorts section had a clip, Ginny´s Mozzarella sticks. I was like WHAT ? But it was another channel and another Ginny, but they got me for a moment. =)
I can see it´s a fun car, you had a lot of fun without even driving it ! To me it looks bit like a Jeep Renegade.
Hey guys, what's with the annoying background repeating lift music!!
Love the review, I always do, but some of the background tunes are really annoying!!
I like the compact look of the Casper (Inster). It would be the perfect daily driver for work or basic weekend errands. I hope it comes to the US.
How many Fondue sets will fit in the boot 🫕😂
I want one!
seems like a decent replacement for the hyundai i10/kia picanto as a city car, Funky styling with added height for easier access. if it comes with all that tech as the entry level then the price is about right, Although if they can get the entry level sub 20k then yeah
Was this presentation showing initially a 3door variant and ending with a 5door? Lots of useful detail left out but just about OK for a general look.
Honestly I have a i20 22 plate with a very bad purchase experience, but this small Hyundai EV very interesting 🤨 thank you for your presentation beautiful lady 👍🏻
Not much of branding of the model name around so I'm all for this all around winner of a car.
I would multiply the battery size by 4 and that’ll be the range if you’re lucky for most of the year
Will it be suitable for the motability scheme? Would be perfect for that
Will there be a follow-up car called the Gram?
7:38, Sorry man, but that controle panel looks like Jar Jar Binks! 😂😂😂
Great review, great little car. As the man himself would have said…”Didn’t she do well!”
10:08 Gear selector?
I'm thinking this could be replacement to my leaf 20
Top review…well said 👍🏻😁
