There have been some incredible Lions tries scored over the years, here are ten of the best. Which is your favourite? #lionsrugby #rugby #tries #highlights
A mate of mine was mates with Bentley and he persuaded him to come down and do some guest coaching a few times. This was when he was well past his prime and if I remember correctly had either retired or was playing amateur rugby for a local team. Anyway, we played touch rugby at the end of the sessions with him joining in. We had a couple of guys who were really rapid and he was still able to make them look fairly pedestrian so I can only imagine how quick he must have been when he scored the try shown here. It was a real eye opener, believe me.
I remember watching the Bentley try live on TV at the time. It seemed to mark a turning point in the whole tour. Up till then, things hadn't gone too well. They'd won games without looking too great and even lost the previous provincial game. After that one try, everything seemed to go better - at least that's how it seemed to me watching - and of course the Lions won the Test series.
7:07 Ben Te'o with a sneaky block on Sonny Bill which opens up the space for Liam Williams to get the move going. Watched that try so many times and that's the first time I've ever noticed that lol.
Are these the GREATEST Lions tries from the marketing brand era??? JJ Williams wasn't bad v NZ in 1977 but it doesn't come close to a Mike Philips try run of the mill score v a half empty stadium in a game nobody remembers
The answer to the question posed is no, they are not and it is pathetic to claim otherwise. The tries shown are all fairly recent and omit any scored during the wonderful Lions tours in the 1970’s, in particular against New Zealand and South Africa. Two winning test series against the two hardest teams the Lions play against.
@@nuirueu against top tier teams? pretty sure the number drops well under 50%.. You're probably including midweek games yeah? The only Games that count are the Test matches against Boks, Blacks and Wallabies the Lions Should win all the others, yet they don't. Lions even lost to the Māori's in 05, and Super Rugby teams last two Tours.
10 No 9 Maybe 8 Nothing special 7 C'mon guys - they are playing a provincial team in a small country 6 Yes, undoubtedly 5 Yes, despite luck of the boucne 4 No, still playing a B team 3 yes, no question 2 Yes 1 Yes
I am 71 and loved sport all my life. But nothing compares to a Lions tour.
I’m 9 and couldn’t agree with you more 👍
@Steve. Exactly this!!
97 Lions tour is one of my favourite sporting moments.
Bentos, 97 Lions individual try. Immense.

If we had film of them., the 1959 Lions scored some unbelievable tries as did the 1971 and 1974 teams.
All brilliant tries. The Sean O'Brien try was a magnificent team effort but for me, that Bentley try was really an amazing piece of skill.

Should really be greatest RECENT lions tries , sure some pre 97 lions tries should be here
Of course there should. This guy has probably never seen Gareth Edwards, Barry John, JPR etc.
Damson’s dummy was unreal. Beautiful.
that Ricki Flutey pass to Shane Williams....pure class
Thank you. I could not remember his name
The drop of the shoulder , No.1 , almost leaves The All Black No.8 having to pay to get back in the ground
I was lucky enough to be in the corner where Sean O'Brien scored, a truly unforgettable moment!

That's exactly how I remember it.
All lovely, but I have a special regard for Dawson's cheeky dummy in No.10. They didn't get how lethal he was. 🇮🇪
Great RECENT tries. The 71 and 74 Lions, and earlier years I would guess, also scored some great tries. GO LIONS!
The Lions should tour Argentina one year.
I totally agree - but I think the original Tri-Nations might raise an objection...
I’m amazed that Barnes didn’t find a forward pass or another foul in every Lions try
No JJ Williams then?
I can smile now for the rest of the day. 😁
Where's Phil Bennett with his floating sidestep in 74 .😡
7:07 Ben Te'o with a sneaky block on Sonny Bill which opens up the space for Liam Williams to get the move going. Watched that try so many times and that's the first time I've ever noticed that lol.

I remember watching the 2017 tour to NZ , I was in a packed pub when O'Brien scored that try, the place went berserk 😊
Shame no tries from the 70s 80s early 90s.
Nothing from the incredible 74 Lions in South Africa especially Phil Bennett??????
Where and when is the next tour?
Pretty sure the Lions scored some cracking tries before Sky invented rugby in 1995.
Obviously no Lions tours before this lot then. Loads better scored 70s and 80s.
3:38 Jason Robinson does that in 2001 and the Aussies didn't learn for 2003 did they!
John Bentley's is my favourite
The Lions didn't score any tries before the late 1990s?
Very high tackle on Ollie Smith at 2:33

Maybe if you ignore >100 years of previous tourc
Nothing from the two greatest tours of 1971 and 1974. Is it because Sky didn't have the rights to them?
What about Rory Underwood vs NZ ? That was amazing too
Jack Nowell try was great
Some great old tries not put in old tours
What about 1955 Lions v Springboks Pedlow, Greenwood, Morgan Butterfield.
Terrible list, but I will say tell me Shane Williams isn’t one of the greatest wingers of all time playing against these monsters at 5ft 7 82KG
I thought he was only 4' 3".
You're so right, him marking Jonah would be... interesting
@@troyocarroll they almost did and Shane was gutted Jonah Pulled out last minute, albeit it wasn’t Prime Jonah either but yeh great shout
@@andrewcarter7503 my bad you’re right!
Yes
BOD Try 1 OBrian try 2, imo because of the quality of opposition. All good trys doe 👌 😅
Pleased they kept the All Blacks until last 😊👍
Tom Croft should of been in the top 10
Should HAVE been numbnuts
Lions have historically underachieved terribly... suspect that'll change in Australia and thereafter.
75% win rate since there inception is hardy terrible.

Background music was a little bit awful.
Far too loud.
I'd forgotten how crap all the Lions tries were before 1997.
10, 6, and 4 are the only ones in this video worthy of recognition (1997). The rest were tours including players of only three nations.
I suppose whoever made this also thinks football starting with Sky tv.Do me a favour.
Not really, as all the tries are 1997 onwards, the lions have a little more history
most of it mediocre
Are these.... No. In the professional era? Yes.
No they not. 1980 Lions scored the best lions try ever, entire team touched ball, against jnr boks I think, and Phil Bennet in 1974, against boks.
No the tries scored onthe 71 and 74 tours were better than this selection.
No not a touch on the early 1970s
Absolute disgrace nothing from 71 and 74 the greatest lions teams of all time
Put your own compilation together then…
No. Every one of this so called Greatest ties is in colour.
10 No
9 Maybe
8 Nothing special
7 C'mon guys - they are playing a provincial team in a small country
6 Yes, undoubtedly
5 Yes, despite luck of the boucne
4 No, still playing a B team
3 yes, no question

Shane was one of the very best wingers to play the game, size does not matter in rugby!!
Well it matters a bit, but I know what you mean.
IMO this is more like Rugby 7s than real rugby - its just too easy to run
