- There have been some wonder tries scored in international rugby but have you ever wondered what the best try from each year actually was? If you have then this video shows - arguably the best tries scored each year! If you haven't thought that then enjoy watching some great tries anyway! The tries from 1990 to 2006 are just my opinion so you may disagree and there could be better tries I missed, however, the tries from 2007 to 2022 are the tries voted by World Rugby. Hope you enjoy the video!

2015 it should have been Japan's 2nd try against South Africa. Such an underrated try.

It was the most memorable try in the tournament for many reasons. So it is up there or at least debatable.

2018 really should have been Sean Maitland vs England, where Finn threw the pass of the century. But the Kurgen fakes out someone and World Rugby just can't see past the black jersey😂.

The lomu try in 1999 wasn't even the best try in that game, let alone the year
2000 Cullen try is simply the greatest set play in Rugby history.
Yes - even as an Aussie i have to say, it is a thing of beauty.
The try that Carter set up for Umunga in the 2005 Lions game was miles better than the one he scored himself.
Blancos in 90 ...a thing of beauty .Legend has it the Australians plied him with champagne and cigars at a reception a couple of days before the test to try and effect his game.

Yeah - a compilation from a Wallaby hater. What about Tim Horan's try in the RWC semi-final 1991? Or the try he set up for Campese against Sth Africa the following year? What about the try Campo scored against the Barbarians down the far touchline from a misdirected kick? What about Totai Kefu's try against NZ to win John Eales' final test? There are plenty of tries from Australian wingers from high balls - the first try in the 1995 WRC in Sth Africa comes to mind. What about Ben Tune's try against France where he broke the French winger's arm? And nothing from Stephen Larkham? Larkham was a freak the way he set up tries. There are a couple he set up for Stirling Mortlock that sit in the memory.
I remember watching the Savea try in 2015 - just incredible power.
Speaking as an Englishman, I would not have been heartbroken if Ashton had dropped that. He was such a tosser for celebrating before he'd touched down.

Japans try 2007 v wales was one of the best team tries ever seen, coast to coast!

2018 was Maitland in Calcutta Cup. Featured one the greatest passes 6N has ever seen and was end to end try. Far better than BR's try.

That Lomu try against France in 1999, beating 7 French players with no support, is the quintessential Lomu try. No one else would have scored that.
Also, interesting how many great tries are by the losing side in the matches shown.
I guess that's because the team that's losing throw caution to the wind and try anything.

14:00 have to say, the USA game, absolute appalling state of the ground. Not even club rugby would be played under that much water in New Zealand.
That Duane vd Merwe try was the best individual try. Power...
Basically New Zealand, a side of France, then a scattering of every body else.
A joke that the Springboks don't turn up till 6min in, and the Wallabies only get 2 tries (the first being 7min in🤦), to 8 against. All the while these 2 have been the 2nd and 3rd best rugby nations since 1990. Couldn't even find room for Horan's Try in the '91 rwc semi, Burke's try in Dunedin, or Roff's Try against the Lions.

Now I don't usually watch Union, even less so on TH-cam, but I thought I'd give this a go. I mostly watch EPL, AFL, Rugby League, Cricket and for whatever reason (perhaps l'm sated by the gluttonous volumes of my preferred sports' availability of viewing online) Rugby Union has taken a very distant back seat to the aforementioned. I'm also 55yrs old this year, and I've seen a sh**-tonne of videos of all sports since YT was created, consequently I have seen an equivalent "tonne" of compilations which constantly claim to be a "best ever" etc...they inevitably disappoint with the mediocrity of the chosen content (we are all harsh critics)
I also never comment, when I do it's on a frequency par to that when I find rocking horse sh** lying about, but THIS video I just had to say something.
Firstly, a massive thank you to the OP and/or the uploader for the best 15 minutes of, not just Union, but of any sport that I have seen for many many years. I don't even watch Union, but every single try was masterful, brilliant, thrilling, often mesmerising and fantastically executed. Every one was unique, and played an equal part as a visual ambassador for Rugby Union.

Japan versus SA in 2015 world cup. You have to include ramifications of the score otherwise all these would be Barbarians tries.
Tony Underwood against the ABs was ok but certainly not the best try of that year. it was an important one for the Brits.

Good selection but Kolbe in WC final surely better than whatever against Nam.
Kolbe’s try was certainly more important but the skill shown in TJs try sealed it for me and was voted the try of the year. Glad you enjoyed the video!

The Springboks' best try in the 2019 wc for me was actaully the one by Reinach scored from the cross-kick by Elton Jantjes.

Will Greenwood's try vs Wales in the WC QF in 2003 would be my pick for that year, though there's a possibility I may be a smidge biased.
Sadourny's score in 1994 is still my favourite of all time, mind.
That the wrong Cullen try against Scotland, there’s another one in the same match which is much better.

@@FlAw88 the more recent tries would’ve gone to TMO and were still awarded. Some of the older tries are definitely close but I’m not going to not include tries that were awarded because it’s debatable there was a forward pass.
Being tackled from behind isn't illegal and isn't considered 'dirty' or a cheap shot in rugby. It's a v normal part of the game.
Botha should be nowhere near a rugby field. He should be in jail.
Remind me again how Cheslin Kolbe's try against England in the RWC 2019 final was trumped by the NZ's try against that powerhouse country of Namibia?
Kolbe’s try was obviously more important. But the Perenara try was much better. The offloads and finish in the corner was pretty incredible.
@@RugbyManual I agree that it was pretty, but when it's such a blowout, it kind of loses a bit of value. You shouldn't get too many style points when kicking puppies.
To not have the first try scored in any world cup in 2019 is a mistake. Could've at least gotten an honourable mention.

It has a New Zealand bias. Only a handful of Springboks tries, and only 2 for the Wallabies but 8 against. Despite 5 work cups, and 7 final appearances between them.

The 2000 Cullen try was a forward pass...... a rule world rugby has ignored for exclusively nz for over 30yr... especially from second receiver at long kicks where the ref cant see depth from long distance and the lineos just let it go.
