- The long awaited sequel, the second entry in the slowrun saga! At first glance it might seem like a stupid idea, obviously it's easy to beat a game slowly... or is it? Making the longest possible playthrough of a game can actually just as interesting as making the shortest possible one! This run was really hard to execute and remember everything I had to do and try to give good commentary during it as well. Hope you enjoy!

It overflows at 9,999,999 though.
@@long_john Under a reasonable ruleset (e.g. no deaths), I don't think you can overflow the score counter until after you hit the axe in 8-4. So there's no reason you couldn't do a run to maximize the score up to that point. I do know high score runs are sort of a thing in SMB1.

@@EebstertheGreat could also just account for the overflow anyway. It would be easily noticed in any submitted run :p
@@ThePharphis The problem with that is that the run would otherwise be identical to the one I suggested except that the player would be obligated to acquire 250 1UPs at some point, even though that player is not allowed to die. It still works, but it adds some pointless tedium in the middle of an already frustrating run. I might accept that if the game actually displayed all the extra digits, but since we are just watching a number roll over repeatedly on an end screen and doing our own calculations, I can't see a reason why we should have to include it.
The logical high score categories for SMB2J in my subjective opinion would be a 999950 point real time attack and a high score before hitting the axe.

For anybody who liked the ASMR of the 0 second timer underflow in the castle, go search for the sound of the "moon dump" in the Super Mario Odyssey All Moons speed run.
I've only seen just short parts of this game but now after i watched this i realized how much more interesting this game is

I am sure everyone already knows about super mario bros 35. If you don’t, its like an smb1 battle royale by nintendo, kind of like tetris 99, it is releasing 1st of October this year. Why am i saying this? I just think it would be a cool video idea if kosmic and some other runners were to speedrun it, the game looks pretty promising

@Kosmic: The underflow glitch you mention, his not a glitch, that version of Super mario bros the lost level was originally intended to be the sequal to VS.Super mario bros the arcade version. because that works in Vs. Super mario bros. Nintendo in Japan had to use their plan sequal to Vs. Super mario bros. to make the sequal to the original Super mario bros. 1 because their original plan sequal got change to Yomi kojo Doki doki panic. Other proof at the end of 8-4 in the version of Super mario bros. the lost levels he plays on the video above, it got the same ending as the arcade ending by giving score for remaining life.
you are right that the glitch is also present in Vs. smb. You are completely wrong about everything else lol.

This is actually the first time I've seen a play through of the original here. I've played through the All Stars version. I would have never expected to see actual wind cycles in a classic Mario game, but there they are! The first time I saw wind cycles in an NES game was Ninja Gaiden 2 as a kid I think.

I really enjoy your content, I'd like to see you play other games, do other things. Mario, while fun and all, can't sustain people's attention for too long. You have a charming personality, a nice and calming voice, and a wonderful twitch chat. And so I'd recommend trying other things, it'd be fun to see what you do with games that you might not be as skillful in.

Have you ever played the GBC version of this game on your channel? It's interesting because it has SMB physics (and then slightly different still), making some jumps very hard (such as that one where you need to jump on a flying Koopa to get up to a warp pipe...). It also doesn't have wind, for which some jumps were adapted so as to not be impossible.

You can beat SMB2 (J) slower, just jump over the flag in 3-1 (I think that's right) and warp back to world 1 (you have to keep running to find it).
