the step block trick on the bandsaw was worth the price of admission

    Hello,
An interesting design... I liked your tip on using the step blocks to keep the backsaw vice jaws relatively parallel, I will be using that myself in the future... Thank you.
    Take care.

never had much luck with magnets I always end up bumping it by accident I like the scale from shars the clips on it look handy ....good job I would like to use the boring head for the heck of it too

Nice work RP. Looks like it will install/remove easily, and that's what you wanted.

great idea. I've been using the scale on my tailstock spindle too, but I'm sure to come across a lathe drilling job where I can't just drill clear through the other side. Something like that is a lot better than just the scale.

Sounds great Shawn. We'll both wonder how we ever got by without one! Thanks for watching, man.

Curious as to how the magnet will work out. I have always found that though the modern magnets have excellent down force they tend to slip quite easily especially so on a painted or anything less than perfect surface. Which blows the accuracy and the reliability all to heck. I bought (another project on the list) a DRO with a third axis that I intend to dedicate to the tailstock. I am thinking along the lines of a block with a dovetail cutout to receive the scale and yet be easily removable. Of course it requires a couple of holes drilled and tapped which I hate doing on machinery but can't escape the necessity! Always look forward to your videos as they give me insight into extras for our similar lathes (I was surprised to learn the 'g' series has a D-5 mounting system while yours has a D-4. Probably required by the bit larger bore in the headstock of the gunsmithing lathes?). You eliminate a lot of wasted effort going down the wrong road for me. Thanks. Keep them coming. My current project for the bad weather is fabricating extension kits for my 4 1/2" thick doors as the locksets only go less than 2". Seems the lock companies haven't kept up with the times where super insulating requires much thicker doors. I haven't found any domestic or foreign that do.

Hey thanks Douglas. It's a pretty stout magnet being about a half inch thick. I could move it with a decent knock I suppose, I'll have to be aware of that. I do like the idea of the dovetail for sure. I've had to do similar mods to a door in the past. Thanks again.

4" Horizontal Digital Machine Scale. I bought this one from Shars about a year ago.
