found a solution to my viragos fuel pump issue, pump was getting proper power, but only gave one click when turning the key on, and would not continue to run with the engine running.
I face with similar problem. The middle solenoid shaft is the issue. It become tight overtime. Spray wd40 right in the center, make it loose by pulling and rotating the shaft a couple of time. Fix the contact and it works..

So buy a fuel pump and switch the parts is the solution? Why not just put the new pump in?
Was the fuel pump the issue all along for the Carbs?
Does the safety diode control the fuel pump relay? Seems like it would, but I do not know.
