Addi is the only brand to produce interchangeable knitting needles with a click mechanism - all other brands use screws. This makes the needles both faster and easier to connect and the join a bit more pronounced.
The coated metal tips are available in a lace and a basic (more rounded) version and in a short and long version on top of that. Aside from metal, there is also bamboo, olive-wood, and cubic ergonomic needles ("novel") available.
There's only one kind of cables available, though it comes in different colors. The sets share all the same makeup and there is almost always 8 needles, 3 cables, one cable extender, and 2 rubber patches included. The difference lies in the tips.
The addi click interchangeable knitting needles are perfect for fast knitting and intermediate projects. They are the longest needles on the market, though the tips are not the sharpest.

I bought the rocket² (squared) interchangeables and am very pleased with them. I bought the range of 2mm - 3.5mm in the 40" fixed circular Addi rocket² and where those were sold out (it was the Christmas season, afterall), I bought a few Chiaogoo red lace fixed circulars. I wasn't as taken with the Chiaogoos as I was with the Addis. However, while Addi rocket² remains my favorite, the Chiaogoos are growing on me. Most important to me is having the smaller needes in a full size range for sock making.
Mmm.. I agree with most of what you mentioned, with a few qualifiers:
-the step at the joint: my knitting is closer to tight than to loose, and the step is a nightmare, every few seconds I have to stop and force the stitches over it (force them!)
-the coating: on my set the coating starts to rub off early on during the first use (after the 10-20th row of the project), friction and drag increases over that new grey-blackish area. Fun.
-needle size: I have the shorter version and the first 10-20 rows are very difficult to work because I can't feel or hold the needles properly, then this continues when working the last few stitches of a row regardless of where I am in the project
I don't regret buying my addi set, but I don't like it either.

BTW - My ancestors were stocking knitters (strumpfstricker meisters) from Silesia (Schlesien) in the mid 1800s, so I'm hoping I inherited their talent.
My ancestors are from schlesien as well, and I learned knitting socks from my grandmother. Tho, all things considered, that part of my heritage is difficult. 😢

I know you posted the Addi needle review 3 years ago. Just in case you pick this up and are interested.. Now-July 2024-HOLST Garn is offering Addi novel long square needles’set for US$99.. ( tho listed for more, at checkout = 99!?!). It’s part of their summer special. Postage to the US = c $15 which would cover 2 kilo, I believe. Great deal. Unclear if these novel tips= lace tips. Thank you for the excellent video, I just purchased (yesterday) a set of Addi click interchagable needles, so far loving them. I had purchased some bamboo needles and am very disappointed..... even though they weren't a cheap set.... they wear down, got rough, split yarn all the time....for me much better result with the Addi set.

I’d already purchased the Addi Square needle set before watching this, to finish a cardigan (which I’d lengthened a few inches) wherein the button bands were knit as you go onto the selvedge edges - & did need to join two cables together to accommodate all the stitches. I had no issues with sliding the yarn over the needle/cable joins, nor with the needles coming unlocked from the cables. Very happy with my purchase - I just need to find a smaller needle set to go with this one 👍
Same here. Tho, with lace projects, u sometimes do notice it a bit.
Good review. I have the pink set Long Lace from Addi with the blue cables. Love them. I have tried the short tips, but they made my small hands cramp up. Those went back.

Nice, I just ordered a rockets squared set. It blew me away how nice they were to knit on when I tried them, never having tried Addi or rectangular prism-shaped needles before. I love the tips and especially the coating. Very excited 😊

Scrolled back to see what you thought of my favorite needles :) Spent a lot of time trying to choose between addi and chiaogoo interchangeables but ultimately went with the Addis (lace shorties) because of the stable click join. I've found that the annoying cable memory problem disappears once you get a few good rows into the project. I was originally grumpy about the lack of smaller needles but I've since realized that I do almost everything in those smaller sizes on DPNs anyway. I prefer Chiaogoo dpns ;)

Hi Norman! I think you’ve convinced me to get a set of the Addi lace interchangeables, ha ha! I have the basic Addi turbo set and love them! Love the blunt tips. I think mine may be covered with Nickel as I bought them 4 years ago. But I have no allergy to nickel so it’s fine. Recently I purchased 2 fixed Addi lace needles just to compare the tips and they aren’t too sharp either. I was very pleased. That connection can be a bit of a pain when moving the stitches over it but it’s minimal in my opinion. One time the connection came apart and I lost 100 stitches. It was frustrating but as it turned out, the tips were defective and Addi replaced then free of charge. Great customer service. I do have to say though that my ChiaoGoo’s have a seemless join and have never once loosened up on me. I keep checking the join and they are as tight as can be. But I do love the surface of the Addi’s. Thanks for a great review. I see a new set in my future! My birthday is in July so I may just have to treat myself!😊😀

I think the addi join can become a pain if you are a tight knitter and there are a looot of stitches on the needle. Like a lace shawl. I'm not entirely sure that will be enjoyable - especially as they are not the sharpest tips to begin wiht. But for other projects with lots of stockinette stitch, they can be a true joy
Agreed! They are a true joy with the right project. If I can use my Addi’s I always choose them first! Using the ChiaoGoo’s is pleasant for lace because they are not too sharp and very light!

Ich nehme beide Systeme Addi Click und Chiagoo, wobei mir bei Addi Click gut gefällt das ich kein Wekzeug brauche. In der gelben Mappe sind zwei unterschiedliche Nadeln vorhanden eine etwas stumpfere und eine spitzere Nadel je nachdem was man für Garn hat.
Such a great video! I love metal needles as I am a relatively tight needle. I have both the addi and chiaogoo sets and I have to say I love sleekness of the addi but I don't like the click setting. I am one of those people who have had the needle come off. I put this down to user error rather than a manufacturing problem but frustrating nonetheless. The chiaogoo on the other hand have super sharp tips but the finish is more burnished so I can't knit as fast. I wish they both could combine and I would have my perfect set!
Also you said the writing on your addi needles hasn't worn off but mine has on the 3.5mm 😔 I have the short set and bought from a reputable store in Sydney
Addi’s are my favorite!! But…I did go straight from Susan Bates/Boye/etc to the Addi Turbos, so that made them super amazing lol!! I bought my set in 2008, and they have the black case. I’ve been noticing recently that I can barely see the size printed on some of them anymore. I guess that’s the top layer wearing away?
Addi needles are awesome.
I prefer the Addi needles for their join system. With my big hands, it's easy to over tighten needles with threaded connectors. I've jumped threads a few times. If I used needles with threaded connectors for any length of time, I would probably strip the threads.
With Addi's attention to quality in other areas of their needles, it's a surprise that they haven't removed the memory from their cables yet.
If one doesn't like squinting to align the Addi connectors just go by feel. Insert the cable connector gently into the needle until it stops. Turn the connector until the channel hits the correct alignment. When it does, one will feel connector slip in a little further. Then, push the connector in and turn a quarter turn to lock.
great tip there Kevin. And yeah, you raise an important tip. big hands need different needles, and I wish more knitters recommending needles would be aware of it :)
Hi Norman, thank you for this review. ADDIs are perfect needles but the novel really made a diference when I knit with yarn with cotton, or harder mixes like this. Some kinds of summer yarns. I am a very very tight knitter, but when I use the ADDI novel all the stitches flow very nice. So I wanted to share this because I was about to give up on one of my favorite portuguese cotton yarns and these totally solved my tightness😄.Love from Lisbon!!!!

@@NimbleNeedles sorry just one little thing as I think I should have been more specific...when I said mixed fibers I ment plant based fibers. Specially mixed with acrilic or some other material, see? The stitches just don't flow ! My skin is very dry and lotion in summer gets sticky and doesn't work very well for me. Nor bamboo or wood. So these needles, that I found by chance, really solved that problem. I don't have this problem with wool or wool mixes. But this summer I wanted to use some of the summer fibers everyone is talking about.....who knows if there are more people with this "problem"? Thank you for letting me share this. Love from Lisbon🤗
Very nice and informative review. You really covered everything! One question: what do you think of the older nickel coated needles. They are so slick and smooth as butter. I understand that now Addi has changed it to metal coated brass b/c of sensitivity issues. Are these as smooth as the older nickel ones? Thanks for a great review.
hm...well...for me it's a bit difficult to tell. I do have some old addi needles but I don't know which of them are and if they are indeed nickel coated or not :P
Addi click was the first set of interchangeable needles that I bought and in South Africa they were very expensive. Perhaps due to the knitting style I use (Portuguese knitting) I don't know, but they will become undone and you will loose stitches. I really regret buying them. I next bought a set of Knit pro and are still using that. The screw mechanism can work loose but one becomes aware of it long before they are completely undone and you have lost a lot of stitches.

The case of my Addi interchangeable set has deteriorated. The outer plastic coating is peeling away from the base layer. Aside from that, I love the Addi case.
interestingly enough that has not happened to me but I guess I a not using the case all that often anyway. But yeah, materials detoriate over time. that's kinda normal I guess. In humid climats, cotton and leather will rot. So I guess a manufacturer has to make a decision.

I bought the click Addi set but I don't use it because it is really fiddly. Wrong investment for me. I love Chiagoo Bamboo and Knit Pro Carbon knitting needles. I just bought TULIP (Japan made). Am waiting for it to be delivered to see how they function. I love Tulip crochet needles and hope the knitting needles are as good. ❤️
Yeah, it can be a bother to join them.i personally dont have any Japanese knitting needles yet. Too expensive here in Germany. But, I'll plan to buy some next time I visit (hopefully soon, sigh)
I like a different way to connect the cables but, I don't know that seems like it'll come apart while moving it around a lot... 🤔
hm...well..in my experience it doesn't - except you push your needles a lot..then maybe.

I own Chiagoo interchangeable needles (bought 6 months ago after watching your review ) and recently I bought Addi click from my local yarn store .. I like the finish and how smooth they are ..I am a loose knitter and I have couple of challenges with Addi
I usually knit using fingering weight and the yarn is getting stuck at the connectors and drastically slowing my work ..
Do you have any suggestions? it’s annoying to pull the stuck stitches off from connection ..
I am using size 6 ..my Chicago 6 size was taken by airport security at the Istanbul airport 😭😭😭 so I am
Forced to use addi now and it is taking forever to finish the project and am losing motivation

I am a very proficient knitter of 60 years. I prefer blunt tips. I would never buy interchangeable needles though, they will never be as good. I don't like superslick needles either. The stiches slip off. But then I am a loose knitter.

I don't think they r swivel. It should say on the package/listing if they r. I'm currently not at home, so I can't double check, tho.
Nice review, but I have to say, there is no correlation to one's knitting proficiency and the style of needle tip they prefer. I'm an advanced knitter and much prefer a blunt tip like the Turbos - just due to my knitting style

Still, speaking from experience and on average, most experienced knitters lean to sharper tips. But obviously either way is just fine 😊❤
@@NimbleNeedles I've not heard anyone mention this.. but if stuck with too pointy wood needles, one can easily file them down with care. I guess the over-pointyness problem, lies with Hiya Hiya and lace oriented sharp tips in metal...splitting yarn AND poking one's own finger! I am hoping to find addi lace to be just the right amount of sharp to speed up knitting. I may learn the hard way that yet duller tips might suit me. Am awaiting a trial set of 3 Grs (3.,3.5., &4. mm) as it's reported that these surprisingly both avert splitting and simultaneously work for v fine lace!! I may first test them to test their slickness and feel. They currently are not interchangeable, nor have I, either, found a solution for 1.5-2.75 mm knitting. Only my $20 set of TEMU bamboos --those whose tips I''ve filed!-- get me to 1.5/2. mm! This is where I've applied v fine sanding..but bamboo is bamboo, thus okay as a back up. Despite spending hours on YT researching best investment.. I find myself readier today than my future self will be to accept the inconvenience of fixed and memory-prone cords, such as you mention with Addi's. By the time I'm more adept, surely there'll be more invention, do you not think so? After all, Chiaogoo no longer corners the cord market, and seems to be falling short as others are generally catching up quickly. Neither is Chiaogoo capturing the charm of Moon Lantern, but, rather, falling short as they try.I think you nailled it in your video...but without experience, I must admit.. You make good sense. They do still get to smalller mm needle sizes but who's to say that someone else might not offer other, and more adaptably set completing solutions? Which of these companies offers the full size array in one set, other than TEMU? I'm not fully researched yet and will grant the industry the time it takes me to resume and achieve better proficiency . Does this seem reasonable? Thanks to you and some others, it's Addi squared metal lace longs for me but first a trial with long the hidden gem of long PRYMS. I'd love to know your thoughts on them!
For the life of me, I cannot connect my needles to the cords. I can get them to turn once inside the needle but never hear a click. So expensive and disappointing. 😢
