Great and honest review! I've just bought one Interceptor. For me, it's not "less is more", it's "more with less". I'm appreciating almost everything in the bike. Lastly, "Loud pipes, save lives" is a biggest lie in the motorcyclism.
This woman gives the best review of the Interceptor! The reach (and height) pisses me off as a 5 foot 5 incher. I changed the mufflers, air filter , clutch and brake levers and risers for the bars plus angled them back. Oh and the seat. Put a touring seat on it, so much better. Now it's love....Oh I forgot the best bit, I added a tooth to the front sprocket. 4,000rpm at just over 100kph. Highway cruise.
A really good honest straightforward review and very well presented, however you should have mentioned the price. I think that it's a great bike, the only real problem, in my opinion, was with those gauges, perhaps yours were faulty? anyway it's something that no doubt would be sorted out under the warranty. Did I see that it had ABS, if so that's a real plus feature.
Bought mine in San Diego California in June 2019. I now have over 35k miles with virtually zero problems. Given i barely adjusted one valve from 12-30k miles i deem this engine very well engineered. From 115F in the desert to 10,232 ft altitude it runs impeccably well.
Please make sure that you check your tire pressure before riding. And less tinkering is good! Luckily, checking and adjusting valve clearances is relatively simple, but needs to be performed more often than engines that use shims. The above "complaints" are nonexistent; and others that you may have cited are minor. Love RE; waiting for the Classic 650 and the 750 Continental GT to be released!
Absolutely terrific review :) thanks for taking the time to share it and mention the condensation had that on a himmy and a 390adv x2 which all got rejected with that an a huge amount of other issues. Personally reviews like this that point out the issues make it more likely that I’d purchase a bike than the ones that completely miss out stuff, then you feel dissatisfied with the brand.
Thanks for the great video. Your comment about the engine being mounted low surprised me. I'd always considered the engine to be mounted high, with a consequent high centre of gravity that makes picking the bike up after dropping it extra hard. I'm a very small old man so I've had to reduce the saddle height by a couple of inches (50mm). A 'which gear am I currently in' indicator would have been nice, even as an optional extra I would have gladly paid for one of those. Not that easy but I fitted self cancelling indicators to mine (I have the GT version of the Interceptor). Being small I wish the bike was lighter (I've reduced the weight of mine by 11% but it's still too heavy). Don't get me wrong, I do love this bike.
If you want to move the handle bars back look in to the motone Customs up and overs they move the bars up an inch and back an inch definitely more comfortable
Nice laid-back review . Metzler sportec Klassics are excellent tyres to consider , no-flightyness just well-planted . Always check your tyre-pressures ! (unless you really want to win 'the big-race' ) Poor-form to hand-over a bike with low-pressures though .I would probably have angled the bars-back and set the lever-angles to suit , every-advantage helps you stay-safe . Hitchcocks have ergonomically-better foot-pegs too if you ever do buy one , It's the only real-fault that everyone seems to notice . Dave NZ
The issue with oxidation is down to general maintenance really, especially with winter riding. I have an RE interceptor and regularly clean it, especially if I have been out on salted roads. After cleaning I spray it with Silkolene Pro Prep spray which provides an effective barrier against salt and dirt etc., making it easier to clean off and prevents pollutants adhering to the bike. Some of the parts are not up to Japanese standards eg switch gear but it does the job and at the end of the day you are not paying 000's more for the near equivalent machine!? Surprised the reviewer didn't mention the rear suspension, as mine is a bit lumpy (noted on many reviews) and am planning to replace the units when they come available from TEC bike parts. Agree tyres are not brilliant as as soon as I need to I will be putting Avons on!
I’ve a 2023 Interceptor 650, looks are transformed if you put 150mm rear tyre on and just pop the bottom end of the rear mudguard off…looks MUCH better
Always fun to watch another 650 review, it's a terrific bike. Well done. Just a suggestion.. take some tin snips to that humungeous plate. It ruins the look. 😃
My first time on this channel, I own and ride a 2017 Yamaha XT1200Z, which I use for touring and just general pleasure riding, but I am thinking of down-sizing and I keep looking at the Interceptor, but I am 6'2" so I was wondering how suutable the Interceptor is for the taller person? I should probably get a test ride and find out fir myself! Anyway, full marks to the young lady for her impressions and observations in here, she's got my attention now!
A well presented video, great job. The interceptor is now getting a bit long in the tooth. I've been riding 54 years and just sold my bike, due to my wee truck needing a new engine! If I won lotto (NZ), I'd get the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, but change the exhausts, as I think they don't match the retro style. I miss riding the UK back roads. Thank you for sharing.
There were two yellow stickers on the back of my clocks, covering small vent holes. I took the stickers off and the fogging cleared up and has never come back... Might be worth a try?
WOW .... Someone else who thinks all these bikes with all is high technology is a pain with their tilt angle abs ... just imagine what we did before all of this tech came out lol
What I like most at people who own those classic bikes is the fact that they are not afraid to ride their motorcycles on any kind of roades. I know a lot of ADV owners who have never ridden their big GSs or KTMs on a dirt road and not evend on a graveled road. This is why I respect so much the way how you use your beautiful bike! It is an all rounder and you ride it as an all rounder should be ridden!
I tested the int 650 last year. Smooth engine, very nice sound, perfect look. But... I’m 5.5 with short legs and I found it really too high for me, with a high center of gravity... (compared to a Moto Guzzi v7 850 for instance). OK, I'm driving only in the city, I need to be able to put my feet down on the ground, even if there is a hole, in an emergency stop. So, nice, but not for me...
While the interceptor is a good bike for its price, its certainly not perfect. The handling with the original tyres was pretty bad, with the bike wallowing around corners. Changing to Avon roadriders defo helped, and I suspect upgrading the front shocks would make an even bigger improvement. The chaincase and head do show signs of corrosion, but this is probably also due to riding in winter regularly and me not being the most dilligent washer! I have had a few electrical issues, with the battery not receiving charge, but these also might be down to corrosion.
Nice review, I like that you are able to be objective and subjective in equal amounts. I don't think the RE is the bike for me, not quite there in terms of fit and finish and the budget bits are a bit too obvious, also not quite enough power.
I'm a new rider(actually I'm not a rider yet, I'm just starting with the whole process to get a lincence. I really like the looks of the bike, sounds good too. Only issue or .. fear I have with it.. is it going to be too heavy? I understand that while riding you do not feel the weight but at very slow speeds and on traffic lights/in the garage.... is it really that heavy and difficult to operate? Any thoughts?
Yeah, she's got another Royal Enfield at the moment, stay tuned :) There's a view of her videos over on our second channel where she's in the workshop with Dave
I have the same bike and it is awesome for the PRICE. My biggest complaint is the Tires. Yes the tires seem to me not to stick to the highway as much as other bikes i rode. To me it is not a big deal, because I will not push it on the bike when doing sharp turns where you have to lean. I had a MT-03 that I upgraded from and boy was it a good upgrade, saying that on the Mt-03 had better tires but that was IT. This bike is great on the highway and when going 65mph you can give it more and it will PULL and accelerate no problem. The Mt-03 did not have the pull at higher speeds and did not feel safe on the highway compared to the INT650.
Hi, I traded my 2009 BMW R1200GS for my 72 plate Interceptor. First couple of months of ownership? At 6’1” tall, I discovered that I was GS shaped and I’m getting bad cramp in my hips due to the distance between seat and pegs. I’ve ordered the TEC footrest lowering kit for this. I need some of the up and back riser extensions so recommendations welcome. I have added the following- Flyscreen, small rack, saddlebag supports to keep them out of the back wheel, small crash bars, anti vibe sleeves for the grips. Like Franky, I’m not a big fan of the silencers looks and will be ordering the AEW201 silencers also. I’m 59 and not needing the sound of a loud bike anymore.😂 Great review, great channel👍😊
@@aequitas8749 I’ve not found that. The two REs I’ve had have been well built and well finished. As good as anything I’ve had from the big four in the last 10 years and better than my Honda Super Cub.
I got one and the first thing I did put some risers on the bring the handlebars a bit up and back and I'm about 6'. yes, the pegs do tend to get in the way as compared to my other bike (which is a RE classic 500). I really didn't like the exhaust in the way it looks - seemed a bit more racy and less classic - a pair of AEW 201 mufflers did the trick and brought out better exhaust notes. I also replaced the factory seat with the upgrade touring seat for the continental GT - fits in terms of looks and a bit more comfort. I don't get the complains about the tires. I keep them up to factory spec pressure and can throw her in the twisties all day long - rain or shine. Suspension is not super great, but adequate. You don't need the upgrade that for instance Hagon offers, but you can tell the difference. The bike is perky enough for my taste and with the mods I made - I can ride for a good few hours without a break.
Good to hear about your AEW 201 mufflers, I've got some on order due to wanting some deep panniers. YSS front and rear suspension is a game changer although I wouldn't say it was bad before.. just adequate.
@@clausentumsoton Yes, that was also my consideration with the AEW 201 so it is easier to through some bags over the bike -also swapping out those mufflers will save a lot of weight
@@clausentumsoton yeah, definitely those 201's will free up more space for panniers - another reason I went for the 201's. I had ordered stainless steel ones, but I got chrome ones instead - I decided to keep them as the chrome quality was better then I would have expected.
it's all in expectation, for the money as motorbikes go a decent FZ/MT 07/09, SV650 will outdo everything the RE650 will do however when one is brought up on British bikes new in the 60s the RE is really there. IT IS THE 60s bike in the flesh but for the modern take.
There is plenty to fiddle with on the Royal Enfield interceptor, a tek 2 in to 1 stinger pipe would remoce a lot of weight for you, as would tek rear shocks, the evap is crap, handle bar risers would fit you, and sealing those clock's is another projrct. 😊 then theres the tire change a shinkon704 or 705 would be great on that bike for you. and you've got a gas tank to paint 😅
I'm getting my second set of clocks replaced on warranty. Seems the newer ones don't have this problem.
Thanks for the review!
