    Always liked Elissa a lot and the older I get the more I respect her.
    Twenty years ago I didn't really think how unusual it was for a woman to be a pro skater because one of my best friends in skating was a girl, but especially now with a new generation of awesome female skaters really ripping it out there, who grew up with her as an example I realize how monumental her contribution to skateboarding probably was.
    That and she just oozes style.

    Cut Elissa off at 10:17 and proceeded to take an epic run leaving Elissa on the deck, so to speak. Notice how she leans in and allows him the space to process. Part of being an ally is checking yourself and listening without feeling the compulsion to sound off about your own truth. I really want to know what Elissa was going to say. So grateful for Grosso using his platform the way he did. I mean no disrespect.

    There has been a lot of posts taken down about rollerbladers and I want to set this straight. Jeff never cared I was rollerblader. Elissa treated me amazing in Fort Myers. Jamie Thomas stopped filming in Miami to watch me skate and clapped. I worked woodward for many years and most of my friends skateboarded. This isn't about hate on rollerblading. That is like us bad mouthing bmx riders for chunky ledges. Kids did say bad things to everyone at times and it sucks. Tony Hawk and I talked about how rollerblading got a bad deal. The best thing I've ever heard was Matt Milligan say "I like rollerblading because it is hated just like how skateboarding was when I started." So yes.... there is love all around. Go be you, and have fun doing it

      @@gorryman I doubt there'd be a lot in his interviews that wouldn't fit within the scope of modern cultural sensibilities. The most controversial stuff would no doubt be about freestyle. Some of those interviews might be considered inflammatory just because of his treatment of a certain much-beloved professional skateboarder.

    I honestly don't think they could have done this without Elissa and BA. They're the two most respected LGBTQ+ skateboarders imo. Elissa's point about skateboarding not being as inclusive on the inside as we think it is interesting.I don't know if that has a deeper meaning like how skaters are marketed or if shes talking about dudes at skateparks not being welcoming enough. I honestly think it comes from a lack of communication on both sides. going to the skatepark where you don't know anyone is intimidating to everyone not just women and LGBTQ people(granted I would imagine its worse) but I could be wrong, but I think its a "they're as scared of you as you are of them".

As in i want to hang out and be apreciated for my vibe, not the conotation that somebody else has with a certain word.

    Growing up i never experienced an overwhelming feeling of inclusion. From the skate community and outside. Everyone has always only treated me decent when i had something to offer. And as a poor kid, you have nothing so therefore youre treated as nothing. Dogged for your ride, dogged for your clothes dogged for your lack of skill. My only inclusive feeling ever was alone. Isolated and away from anyone. Nights skating is the best skating.

    "and the last thing i want to do is beat up on somebody else and make them uncomfortable or make them not feel safe "
    like skateboarders have been doing to bladers (and now scooters) for decades when they go to a skatepark. they say all this then champion a magazine or brands that outwardly have been teaching generations for decades to hate others because they brought the wrong toy to the skatepark. love the sentiment but you cant have it both ways

    • @dealwithitsf
      @dealwithitsf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dylan-li2nf i wasn't trying to compare the two. i was pointing out the hypocrisy of saying your inclusive and for all people then promote magazines and brands that go out of their way (for decades) to do the complete opposite

    • @Dylan-li2nf
      @Dylan-li2nf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But it’s not hypocritical. Hating people for something that’s not their choice is different for hating someone for what they choose to do. Honestly most skaters I know don’t care unless it’s a little kid getting in the way. If they do it’s usually also a homophobic person who makes fun of people for wearing helmets. But yeah I agree those people suck
