Training is different than educating. Generally, training means teaching police officers to react to a given situation in the field. Education involves developing the mental and moral tools police officers should possess to build strong relationships with the community. It will teach police officers to think about their response to various problems based on vast amounts of knowledge and then take thoughtful action to resolve a problem. What they need is educating them on our Constitutional rights. Police officers enter their profession by taking an oath to the U.S. Constitution. So why is there no concerted effort to make police constitutionally literate? Just think about how much better the police-community relations would be if police were constitutionally literate. Constitutional literacy entails knowing the Constitution sufficiently well enough to invoke it properly. Those who take an oath to the Constitution have the responsibility to know its contents and interpretations of it, such as court decisions that are professionally relevant. There's a lot of men and women that have a career in policing without ever even reading the Constitution. So how sincere is one's oath to the Constitution if one hasn't read it or doesn't understand it? First of all, police academies should replace the standard five to six months of training with a two-year curriculum. In addition to the necessary physical, firearms, and tactics training, recruits should take classes that you might typically find in an undergraduate program - from criminal and constitutional law to sociology, psychology, and conflict resolution. A clear understanding of the nature of the society they will serve, and all its complexities are fundamental to any member of a service profession. By doing a simple search on TH-cam and watching a few videos of "First Amendment Audits" you can plainly see how ignorant most police officers are when it comes to our rights. So more education is needed, not just training. www.policechiefmagazine.org/education-offers-best-solution-for-police-misconduct/

what i find interesting about officers and military is how well i can read them. their training shows so well. many have a very similar mindset. one thing ive learned is dont underestimate thier intelligence or their drive. they go through this hellish training for a reason. but ive also found in my own personal experience is that 1 of 4 people generally come out of that training and out of service. hardened strong people with a strong sense of morality. strict unbendable people who follow what they feel is right regardless of the reality of their beliefs broken men who are scared and traumatized and trying to leanr how to be a person...or dead men. this is why as much as i might want to i will never join LEO. i dont want to change. im bitter enough...i dont wanna have to hurt someone. i cant. great respect to LEOs everywhere
Can someone explain to me what the red ribbon on one of the recruits means? How does he have a ribbon as a recruit? Is this some achievement thing or something ?

Go to college first. It will help you do well in your class work, understand concepts and subjects, write better, speak better. It is also required prerequite to be promoted to sergeant. A graduate degree is usually required to be promoted to lieutenant or Captain or higher. Do a few years in the military, especially as an MP. It will really help you deal with the stress and boot camp environment.
Nah you don’t need that you just put that time in and take a test for promotion like the military and being a MP is basically security for the military base completely different from civilian law enforcement the boot camp experience would transfer over but you could be making 60 to 100k in 4 years you would do better going into the reserves and being a cop full time

The Marine in the video thought so... A former Marine that was in my squad said it best, bootcamp is physically tougher but mentally a joke since you just do what your told. 6:43 the girl in the back saying; Help him, help him. Lady, the guy still has a knife in his hands. If he wants to bleed himself, his problem, I will help him once the threat is way down.
He dropped the knife. The lady told them to help too early
That'll get you killed in real life 😂
For all those who have already been thru the academy in other states recently, does this seem similar, is it accurate and same for almost all academy? Or is it just this one academy that is this "harsh" per say. ( An army like training, the strictness, the yelling ) Let me know :)
Yes, it might change per department. But it’s not all just fun in games or, back to school boys! It ain’t like that
Going through my local sheriffs hiring process at the moment and a few of the deputies say it's like 5 out of 10 compared to military basic/boot camp.
I doubt it's tougher than marine basic training.
John Joseph I’ve been through 2 police academies.. it’s definitely not tougher than basic training.
Academy is more mental, less physical than boot.
Boot camp is nothing compared to a top tier police academy.....I have known border line retards that have passed boot camp......when I was in the Army in the early 80 s you could serve in the Infantry with a 25 ASVAB score......
It’s not, at all.
It was never supposed to be. But it definitely weeds out the ones who cant take a bit of stress and screaming.
6:54 instructor not chillin with his Jiu Jitsu, i see you with that inversion
That guy who thought it was cool for the police not giving him a ticket and said now he wears a helmet every time sounds oddly happy for that stupid scenario.
How’s it a stupid scenario?
cops are not hired to "be cool."
The firearms instructor had a French Gendarmerie patch on his vest
Not showing the mental evaluation part of the program?
"I want one hole with four bullets through it."
Deadshot: 😏
what i find interesting about officers and military is how well i can read them. their training shows so well. many have a very similar mindset. one thing ive learned is dont underestimate thier intelligence or their drive. they go through this hellish training for a reason. but ive also found in my own personal experience is that 1 of 4 people generally come out of that training and out of service. hardened strong people with a strong sense of morality. strict unbendable people who follow what they feel is right regardless of the reality of their beliefs broken men who are scared and traumatized and trying to leanr how to be a person...or dead men. this is why as much as i might want to i will never join LEO. i dont want to change. im bitter enough...i dont wanna have to hurt someone. i cant. great respect to LEOs everywhere
Should I try? I'm 36
Can someone explain to me what the red ribbon on one of the recruits means? How does he have a ribbon as a recruit? Is this some achievement thing or something ?

to all those who serve , to all those who want to serve, & to all of those who have died in the line of duty Thank you
Sacramento Police Department is one of the finest LE agencies in this country. And certainly the state. CHP and the Sheriff's Department are right there with them.
I love this video!! that's what training is about
This will help a lot of officers
Dude with the high voice, “yes sir”
A lot of physical training and getting proficient in shooting a gun, but no constitutional training or the civil rights of the public, that seems to be what is lacking.
The young lady recruit is sharp!
Whoa! That recruit @1:41 made it before the cut off age. Talk about barely making it.
some places its 40
Many (if not most) departments have no age limit. The ones that do are usually big city or federal agencies.
Oh wow! That’s actually great. Unfortunately here in New Jersey, the cut off age is 35.
@@platinum476 go over the bridge to pa or Delaware
platinum476 hey civil service test is out in nj ends aug31st GET TO IT!!
Instructor is such a badass.
Thank you all for your service.
Anybody able to compare this to Marine Corps Bootcamp? I figured since I've been there, this would be a breeze. Any comparisons? I know they talk about it in the video, but just asking for personal experiences.
How long is the police academy for ?
Jacob Carreon it’s in the video
Anywhere from 3 to 6 months, most places its 6+ months.
Northeastbaseball what’s nice is that some pay you for it while others don’t
It depends. Mine was 750 hours.
It's around a college degree. Depending on state and juristiction requirements.
Thank you all for your bravery, sacrifice and service. You deserve more respect and money for appropriate body armor and body cameras and civilians you can trust your life with. I personally thank you and love you and pray for you daily.Amen with my 🌎 world wide prayer partners United including prayers for all of you for prayers of protection. You also deserve raises
They look like a bunch of civilian paramilitary wannabes to me !!!!!😀😀😗🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hey, Indianapolis, no Chicken test!
They need to add a class teaching the constitution to all police departments. Those are the rules that tell the gov what they can't do and what to hold up for citizens.
good luck to all of you Officers
the only thing that is stopping me and making me hesitate to join when I get older is how people treat cops rn bc of the racism and I don't wanna be assumed I'm racist when I'm not, police ain't racist thou its the individual that is...
Ive already dealt with boot camp, I am good. I don't need someone getting in my face screaming "half right face, front leaning position move".
When I went an Army Boot Camp, there was a Navy E-6 and an Air-force E-7 in my platoon who had to go through all the getting in your face, drop and the front leaning position that we the junior enlisted soldiers had to go through. Even if they’re not happy about it as they’ve done in the past but there was no go around to accomplish their goals; proud of them!
Nah you don’t need that you just put that time in and take a test for promotion like the military and being a MP is basically security for the military base completely different from civilian law enforcement the boot camp experience would transfer over but you could be making 60 to 100k in 4 years you would do better going into the reserves and being a cop full time
The academy is the easy part. Then the tough part starts.
Wish part are the toughest one ?
If youre talking to a suspect who has a knife out and is threatening people and youre 5 feet away youd better already have your gun out, even at the low-ready position. 21 foot rule. You wont clear your holster fast enough. You can do that all while maintaining dignity and keeping control of the suspect verbally.
anyone know why that cadet at 1:38 has a ribbon
Some type of Police Academy award most likely.
P/T ribbon most likely.
USA: 8 months of training.
NORWAY: 3 years at universty level.
@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 So what? Police training in the US is a joke. A deadly joke.
@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 Been a policeman for 40 years. Does that count? I know the difference between Norwegian and American police education which is embarrassingly poor compared to Norway and the rest of Europe. Like comparing elementary school with university education. Don't even try to defend American police education with us.
@@knupps Dude, why would you need a university level of education to be a police officer....there are tons of competent officers in the US, especially where im from...the job does not require that much education lol, you might as well go for law school or forensics...being a good officer, it honestly comes down to experience. Get off your high horse bud.
@@BuiltForSin0 Good point. One of the biggest things Knut is forgetting is that Norway is like Pleasantville compared to the US. They work 40 years (in Norway) and will never have to shoot someone.
@@calvin- If you think American police are as well trained as any European police force, well then you are dumber and more ignorant than I thought. Nearly 1,000 people were shot and killed by US police in 2017. In the UK it was 6 and in Norway it was 1. UK police have 2 years of education. Everyone understands that education means everything, but just not in the US ???? Go figure?

Is Corporal Dustin Smith still cheating on his wife Jamie and their 4 kids with the female recruits? IA investigation in April 2018 involving him and a new female recruit.
Woah
Just got accepted into the physical training I’m Alil nervous not scared though
How long does the entire process take since you take the written exam to being accepted into the academy?
@@somoza2307 if your accepted it takes 2-6 weeks after ya interview to get to your interview it’s usually right after your physical exam far as to getting invited to the academy that could take as long as three months in total u looking at 3-6 months to get into the academy
man im in trouble I live in sacramento and want to become a law enforcement officer
Shout out Marine Corps. I wonder what platoon that guy graduated from.
They should of put up how many of these recruits are actually from Sacramento
2:20 he said he would extract their personality
OMG...I am so going!!
Can’t wait to go, 3 years until I’m 21 and am able to try out
Nice! im 16 and can't wait either!
Is the academy a residential program or no?
I really like the way of recruiting they have people from 22 to 35 amazing in many countries they don’t hire recruits who are more than 25 and for police chiefs or senior position they have direct recruitment .
I’m scared for the academy in 10 months but I want to prepare. I hope I can make it.
Saying “Yes Sir” in the military would basically just get you smoked
Nowhere in the western world is the police training as short as in the USA. 4-6 months before you have the power to decide about death or life. Less then 1 week of that training is for social competence, psychology, communication and de-escalation.
Just in Comparison German police 30-36 Months/4500-5000 Hours training.
BTW. "Defund the police" would do the opposite ... And yes Blue life matters too, but they need to change that training.
Greetings from Germany
Depended on the department for the training some afford body armor some don’t some afford tasers some don’t
1000 hours to carry a badge and a gun, and the ability to take ur freedom...1500-2000 hours to wash and shampoo and cut hair...these morons need to be psychologically weeded out, the rest spent extensively studying the constitution, state and local ordinances, citizens amendment rights, de-escalation training, more training with the law, none of these idiots training them to be Rambo.. effing idiots
Germany, greetings..u couldn't be more right... defunded police isn't possible..this nonsense right here is what's needed to stop.. anyone can play soldier..and if ur at war, u gotta have an enemy..and the area ur supposed to police is just occupied territory...that about sum it up, swine?
The training is harder than marines bootcamp
Good job! Keep up the hard work.
But to say it's harder than boot camp. No. Just no. I wasnt in the Marine Corps I was in the Army and the answer is still no
@Mina69a the fact you can go home at all during training makes it easier than the military, trust me. That was the hardest aspect for me
The Marine in the video thought so... It can vary from department to department, but your typical well funded academy has a higher failure rate than any US military branch's basic training due to the testing requirements. A former Marine that was in my squad said it best, bootcamp is physically tougher but mentally a joke since you just do what your told. The military will work with even the biggest dumpster fire of a recruit for as long as it takes but my academy was 3 tries and your out for everything from the weekly law test or practical exercises.
Boot camp is nothing compared to a top tier police academy.....I have known border line retards that have passed boot camp......when I was in the Army in the early 80 s you could serve in the Infantry with a 25 ASVAB score......
Marine: hold my bear
Logan Everidge did you even watch the whole video 🤦♂️
🤫
You mean crayons
Logan Everidge Morons, I mean Marines, are dumb.
idiot, why do Marines always have to chime in??? I have seen some s bags Marines in my department....
Dear every police academy in America, stop telling your Marine veteran recruits to compare it to Marine boot camp. It's just ridiculous and frankly quite ignorant.
The first day, when the cadets are put through stress, why is it done in a military manner? Why do they have to yell with command voices?
how can i get more information on joining??
