It's 1 minute and 30 seconds if non stop shred . Eddie drank a lot and fought with his wife who is non other than Valarie bertinelli the movie star . Of course all this was hear say and he may very well don't remember it . I do have one of the original albums and that whole entire album is fantastic . Every song on it is amazing and I love it till this day .

Edward played like a pianist and a percussionist. People love to imitate but no one has been able to replicate his sound. Close but no where near what Edward could do. He filled his songs with riffs and was never just a “strummer” but even his rhythm playing was amazing. He was a tortured musical genius and his addictions did catch up and of course his disease. He was inspired by the Dave Clark Five and in turn inspired multitudes of musicians.

Its volume knob with a slight delay.
Yes, he has a slight delay over the entire solo if you listen closely, as it helps fill out the sound. But the majority of that repeating sound is him turning the volume up and down multiple times per note

I saw Van Halen twice. Once in my hometown, 2nd time we drove 1500 miles to see them. Both times, this solo was like 20 plus minutes. And first time we were BLOWN AWAY!! Second time, we were just in AWE! ROCK GOD- Eddie Van Halen RIP my Brother!!
Oh my goodness! I battled cancer 3 times, stage 3 and 4. My heart goes out to anyone dealing with debilitating health problems. I'm 9 years in remission but I suffer from side effects of the treatment. Positive thoughts to everyone.
This is, literally, the greatest guitar solo ever played.
Great reaction to this masterpiece. This is only achieved by tens of thousands of hours of practicing. But it’s not only his musical prowess. What you can’t see here is his ingenious ability to create guitars to match the tone that he searches. He took the humbucker from a Gibson guitar and installed it in a Strat style guitar. This gave him the fat tone of a Gibson while being able to use the vibrato. Not to mention the other things he had to do in which he received patents for. He also modified his amps. No guitar on the market would do what he wanted so out of necessity he created. I think the thing that soared Edward to excellence was keen ears searching for the tone. His ears are the receiver and his hands receive the signal and move accordingly. If he could hear it in his head his fingers could bring it to life!
The irony. At the very moment of this recording, he was dying slowly of mouth cancer from 'cool rock god cigarette smoking.'
But an awesome guitarist. Saw the first Van Halen tour, 1976.
Edie blamed the tin picks that he used and put in his mouth all the tine for the cancer.
I want to say thanks to H, for this video. My husband and i saw them in concert 3 times and after he passed away our son and i saw them twice. Normalcy I would request a Dimash video, but Van Halen is still my number one. Thank you for all the kind words and prayers. I have another surgery coming up to remove parts of my lung. Then, chemo and I just might beat this cancer. My dear sister is on Hospice and not doing well. Thanks again for all the support.
Eddie had a black box on his guitar 🎸 strap in the back . Unless you know about it you don't ever see it . He designed it himself and it was unique in many ways . Especially when it was hooked to various peddles and then the feedback of the amps !!! Well then you get Eddie's unique sound that has yet to be duplicated .
His son Wolfgang has a band and it's called WVH Mammoth . Not even he comes close to his father but , his music is amazing and he has a few hits already under his belt .
Eddie's brother is actually the drummer, Alex. Their family immigrated from the Netherlands when they were kids.

He is different for a few reasons, but the guy was so good at writing new sounding guitar pieces that people enjoyed listening to. Crazy new sounds, but he always made good music!!

There's a video on TH-cam, What it means to be an American with Eddie Van Halen. It's worth the watch. Came to America after WWII, couldn't speak English and never learned to read music. He was a classically trained pianist as a child with a God given ear for music... Prayers for your burden

Eddie began playing the piano as a child along with his brother Alex. Eddie never learning to read music he just would copied what the other kids were playing. When they were young teenager's they decided start a band and Eddie bought a drum set and while he was out delivering news papers to pay for it Alex got better at playing them so Eddie took his brother's flaminco style guitar and teach himself how to play. When they decide that Eddie needed an electric guitar and they didn't have any money Eddie found a guitar body from a local guitar manufacturer and he got one of their rejects because it had been a knot in the body somewhere and it didn't pass the manufacturer's quaility for one of their guitars. Eddie took it and chiseled the spots for pickups and to run everything that he needed to the guitar to work. He found second hand pickups that he felt made the sound that he wanted. And with a used Marshall amp type started playing gig's. They got a gig at a small club in LA and they played semi regularly and that was when Gene Simons from KISS first saw them and his said that Eddie's playing left him speechless. He had and raised DUTCH and came to to the United State with those parents a ship from Europe when he and his brother were young children. Their father was Dutch and their mother was Indonesia. They all came to the United States for the American Dream !!!

Ed said he didn't remember playing this solo, because he was blackout drunk. If that doesn't tell you what kind of c4azy lifestyle he was leading, not much else will. He was blackout drunk, which means he really should've been passed out in a corner somewhere, but if you watch the entire concert (and the video release didn't include a couple of tracks due to copyright issues) it's 90 minutes of high-octane music, with Edward's guitar wizardry at the center. So he must've been flying high on his favorite Peruvian nose candy, the finest that money (and rockstar fame) could buy.
Ed explained in an interview how it all started: he was a painfully shy introverted kid with extreme stage fright, about to hit the stage and perform with his big brother Alex (the drummer in this video) and their dad, a pro clarinet player from the Big Band era, Jan Van Halen, who did the only thing he knew would work fast: he offered his 9 year old kid a beer and a drag on his cigarette. Because that's how HE coped, he figured it should eork for Eddie. Being dirt poor, he also didn't have the luxury of time to calm Eddie down, and with all three of them performing at this particular gig, it meant triple the payout that the immigrant family so desperately needed. So by junior high, Ed was a full-blown alcoholic and chain smoker. He discovered along the way that the combo of alcohol and cocaine was the perfect thing for a musician who couldn't read or write music. He drank beer to lower his inhibitions, and snorted coke to stay awake so he could noodle around on the guitar, recording everything so he could listen for anything cool, which he'd have to memorize because he couldn't put it down on paper. He spent hours and hours finding every way possible to turn every squeak, pop and ping a guitar could make into something like music. Being broke meant hame couldn't afford cool effects pedals, so whatever he could do to stand out from all the other guitarists had to come from his hands and the instrument.
Ed and Al started out with their dad, paying for their voyage to America by playing to entertain passengers on the boat from the Netherlands.
Mom, Eugenia, an Indonesian native, wanted her boys to be properly trained musicians, so they were made to take classical piano lessons. It was three years before the teacher ever found out Ed couldn't read the music, but he'd already won piano contests just playing by ear.
But once the boys heard the Dave Clark Five's song "Glad All Over", classical music went out the window. They wanted to ROCK. Al bought a guitar, Ed bought drums, but had to pay for them with a paper route. Al would wait for Ed to leave, and would play Ed's drums because he wasn't really enjoying his guitar. Of course Ed found out, so they agreed to a drum- off of the song "Wipeout" by the Surfaris and Al won. So Al got the drums and Ed was stuck with the guitar.
Together, they formed several bands, most notably The Broken Combs and The Trojan Rubber Company, until they finally had a good lineup with bassist and vocalist Michael Anthony, the front man of his own band. Ed was tired of playing lead guitar, rhythm guitar AND singing lead vocals AND renting a PA system from Red Ball Jets' front man David Lee Roth. So Dave joined the band, which was called Mammoth until they found out that the name belonged to another band, so they chose Genesis, only to discover Phil Collins' band already existed. So they named the band after the brothers, and it was Easy Street from there on out.

Ed was always tinkering with his amps, pedals and guitars, trying everything he could think of to achieve the guitar tone he could hear in his head. But conventional guitars couldn't make the sound, so Ed took two different guitar parts that didn't go together, and forced them together, the resulting guitar nicknamed the Frankenstrat, or the Frankie. He painted it in black and white stripes, then added red stripes later, the result copied by Kramer guitars, which sold like hotcakes, and which is the guitar brand Ed used in this video.
The band lived a monastic weekly schedule of gassing up their car, practicing, booking gigs, performing and getting paid, to repeat that same grind the next week. For YEARS. The band members were all seasoned performers before combining forces, but their years as Pasadena's favorite local party band turned Van Halen into a musical force of nature. All the local guitar geeks would show up to see what all the buzz was about, this guy named Eddie Van Halen, who could do things with a guitar to make them feel so inadequate theyd quit, or inspire them to try harder.
Word of mouth spread and eventually the boys became a fixture at clubs like Gazzari's and the Starwood, where they were discovered by KISS bassist, Gene Simmons who was hanging out in the VIP Lounge. He went backstage, met the band, and offered to help them out by cutting their first professional demo, which is now available to hear on TH-cam. He even bought them new clothes, discovering to his horror that how they dressed on the street was how they dressed onstage. The demo was great, and Gene played it for his label, but it went nowhere. Undaunted and undeterred, they returned to LA more experienced, wiser and determined, whete
they were discovered at last by legendary Warner producer, Ted Templeman, who got them their first contract which they probably should've hired an attorney to read.
Their first big meeting in LA was nearly a disaster. The boys' car broke down several miles from the restaurant where Warner bigwigs were anxiously, even patiently waiting. Half a hour late, the band showed up, breathing hard, red faced, apologetic, polite, and said their car had broken down so they had to run to get there. This seemed like it might be a cute excuse for being tardy, but after talking with the boys the WB Execs began to get the idea that there really was an abandoned car some miles away, and that these kids were really, truly too broke to pay for a cab, but were serious enough about their future as professional musicians to run a few miles to make it to a meeting.
Fast forward several years, the band finally got out of that original contract and became overnight millionaires, the royalties to their music going to them instead of WB fat cats. Ed built his own studio, called 5150, where the band could practice, jam, and record whenever they liked instead of paying big bucks to rent time slots at Sunset Sound. The first album they recorded at 5150, was titled 1984, and became their best-selling album, from which "Jump" became their top single.
It also saw the departure of David Lee Roth who, after six albums with Van Halen, was itching to fo his own version of the band, without butting heads with Ed over the musical direction the band should go.
Six months later, Van Halen nearly actually became Van Hagar with extraordinary vocalist Sammy Hagar (the guy introducing Ed in this video) filling Dave's lead singer, front man and lyricist duties.
The band would go on to record and tour for four more albums with Sammy, until he also left, and the band hired Gary Cherone of Extreme, which had also just broken up. That version of Van Halen lasted one tour and one album, with abysmal sales and lackluster critical reviews tanking the experiment, and driving Ed into a dark place.
He had been to rehab a few times, trying to get clean and sober, but instead of losing the habits, he added to his list of chemicals.
Then there was the tongue and throat cancer,
the treatment of which took part of Ed's tongue, giving him a permanent lisp, but he finally did get clean and sober and was able to enjoy a fatherhood dream of playing music with his only child, son Wolfgang Van Halen (see Mammoth WVH), who began jamming on bass with his Dad and Uncle Alex. It was actually Wolfgang who placed the phone call to David Lee Roth inviting him to come and rejoin the band, and in 2015, they embarked upon what they didn't vknow would be their final tour.
In 2017, Ed's cancer returned with a vengeance, and a special treatment in Germany bought him 3 more years.
In 2020, on October 6, he passed away, unable to fly back to Germany for lifesaving treatment because of covid lockdowns.
He was 64, and I admit that I wept over his loss as though he was a close family member.
Wolfgang released a song he wrote and video called "Distance", which Ed got to hear before he passed.
As a fan of Van Halen's music, I also became a fan of Ed's life, his health, his well-being, and as I heard and read more stories about his personal demons, I marveled that he wasn't taken from us even sooner.
But he left behind an indelible mark on the music industry, through songwriting, the pioneering of multiple guitar techniques regularly used today, guitar building, and he even inadvertently changed the way guitar music is written, though he couldn't read tablature either!
His tone, musical sensibility, rhythm and feel are all present in this solo, but to truly understand how he played, you simply have to listen him with the whole band, playing a song.
Then you'll understand why the fictional Bill and Ted knew that they needed Eddie to be in their fictional band, the Wyld Stallyns, and why fictional Marty McFly played guitar the way he did.
There were guitarists who could play faster, cleaner, more bluesy, more this or more that, but nobody could come close to Ed's all-around mastery of rock guitar.
Please, do yourself a favor and check out more Van Halen, starting from their debut album and going in order. But don't do it for me. I've already lived and died with the band. Do it for yourself, as a fan of great music.

Worked with Van Halen 4 times. Twice with David Lee Roth & Sammy Hagar. Eddie was very quiet off stage, but once he started playing, it was something you didn't want to miss. Always had a surprise during his solo's... Prayers to Dee or D' get well soon! 🙏

The opening section is from the short instrumental "316." It was something he'd play with an acoustic held against Valerie's belly when she was pregnant with Wolfie to calm him down in utero. I'm pretty sure Wolfie's birthday is March 16. I had seen people doing volume swells before (Clapton) but nothing close to the speed and precision that Eddie does it in the "Cathedral" (blue) section. Those strike harmonics in the third section are a technique I never saw anyone do before Eddie. The hard part is the harmonic point changes depending on where the left hand is fretted. I'm glad I got to see him on this tour as I think this is his best solo era. In later years it always seemed a little rote compared to this - don't get me wrong, still incredible, though.
I've watched a hundred reaction videos of this and you're the first youtuber that understands what Eddie is doing. Nice job. :-)

His brother Alex is on the drums & his son Wolfgang ( Wolfie ) joined VH in 2007, right before his dad's passing in 2020 Wolfie was writing his own music for his first album which consisted of him doing the vocals & playing all the instruments. Worth seeing him too, Mammoth WVH. For Van Halen songs like unchained, mean street, aint talkin bout love, poundcake & i personally like cabo wabo & humans being. Van Halen has a lot of great music & they had three lead singers. For Mammoth WVH, dont back down, another celebration at the end of the world, I'm alright. Take a bow - which Wolfie plays his dads original famous frankenstrat guitar during tthe solo of this song. So much to dig into

As a teenager, I grew up in the late 70s & 80s. EDDIE VAN HALEN WAS THE GUITAR GOD!!! He even created his own Hybrid guitar.
That was Sammy Hagar lifting Eddie up...and Sammy was the replacement for David Lee Roth (vocals). I saw them live, twice, and both times were with David Lee Roth; '82 and '83. i suggest trying something else from their first, debut, album like; Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love __ or __ Runnin' With the Devil. Then maybe try one from Van Halen II, try: Somebody Get Me a Doctor.
I have seen Van Halen live 15times, starting back in '80s. The only band i've seen live who was better was ELP. Because ELP were fn amazing live!

It's called harmonics lol and sounds incredible . When I was young I dabbled with the guitar 🎸🎶 . It's very very hard to play harmonics you have to hit the strings exactly right to get that sound . .

i hope you could react to some southindian songs also there are really great singers in south india too. Bollywood is not the only film industry in india there are so many others also. We have great south indian singers like SP Balasubramaniam, Sid Sriram etc also there are great music composers like Mastro Ilyaraja, Oscar winner AR Rahman in the list.
