The 99 you have to run it with premium fuel, so maybe do another
test run with fresh premium fuel and service the transmission/filter
and i think you might be surprised.

I absolutely love the Taurus in general! Especially this generation body style as my Dad had a 96 also in same silver metallic when I was a kid. Was a great car, which I later learned to drive in and became my car after highschool. To see this style again brings me back to good times 👍 I currently own the son of this car a 2010 Ford Fusion SPORT which is basically comparable to this style SHO in many ways! This car was also bought brand new by my Dad and its also silver metallic.

Who cares!! You don't own a 3.4L V8 3rd gen SHO and say you have a SHO. LoL!! You say you have a "96-99 SHO" so that people know it isn't a *REAL* SHO. It was a poor performing car. No room to work on it. This essentially was a prototype that made it to production. It was poorly tuned. Hence why it still used an Aisin 4-speed automatic. LoL!! It only had 15 HP more than the 3.0L V6 Yamaha block used in the 1st and 2nd gen SHO. But those gens came with 5-speed manual transmissions.
So putting cheap tires on it, makes sense. It is known to be the absolute *WORST* Taurus model ever made. Water pump problems, transmission problems (as Aisin is a terrible trans), the squat stance from garbage rear strut and coil spring engineering. You had to retro fit the 1992-1995 Taurus struts and springs into the 96-99. What a horrible car.

    BIG COMMENT HERE.😉
Love seeing this, I have had my 1997 since it was 2 years old and am the FIRST registered owner. NO CAM welding, only 57K the OD. I don't worry. Back in 1999, the cam weld parties were quite common back in the day and I knew many of the owners that attended these parking lot events.
Mine has been used in cruise nights and auto shows ONLY. Used to get laughed at back in 2000, however, that doesn't happen anymore, and has become the highlight at these events. It is pretty much a UNICORN and VERY difficult to find one that looks like it came off the showroom floor UNRESTORED, and surviving in original condition.
I have mine fitted with ANTIQUE plates now and insured through HAGERTY.
BTW. The 1999 doesn't have the same suspension as the 96-98. Also deleted is the power antenna AND leather wrapped shifter!
Glad you found the sunroof door.
Good to see another of the few left that has NOT been put in the bone yard!
NOTE: First gear should run to 7000 in drive! I think your secondaries may possibly NOT be opening, or fully at least, as it seems 'loggie' to me as well.
Keep in mind, that little motor is rated at 235 HP NORMALLY ASPIRATED - take away those turbos on your newer SHO, and I would bet it would have troublehangin' with the GEN 3 considering the weight of your GEN 4.. The GEN 3 came with Z rated tires for a reason, and the 144MPH fuel shutoff limit is nothing to sneeze at for a 4 door sport sedan from back in the 90ies!
Drag co-efficient is .30 Slippery for a sleeper from that era.
It's nearest competition was the Pontiac GTP with the 3.8 v6. Pontiac had to throw a SUPERCHAGER on that larger engine it to make 240 hp.!!! That is what was going on back in those days.
When you have owned one of these for a quarter century, you get to know the history, experiences, and stories first hand.
Enjoy your 'new' GEN 3 🙂. Fix her up, take care of her as I have done with mine.

YES!! I'm so happy the SHO finally made it to the shop. Hearing that start up, it brings back memories of my '97, I loved that car! Black with tan interior. That small motor was one of the best sounding V8's I've ever heard. Not the fastest but they were sneaky quick, and you could bury the needle over 150mph if you wanted to, it was crazy! Kept it until 138k miles and never had my cams welded. Started nickel and diming me towards the end, so it was time to trade, but boy do I miss her. Thanks for bringing this beauty to the channel Randy!

Nice get!!! I have a 96 SHO. Absolute highway cruiser and yes, the most comfortable seats. I couldn't tell if the cams were welded from the pics but if not do it. Change the trans fluid yearly. The car will open open nicely at 3400 rpm. 8f not the wire to the secondaries is snaped. Wire them open. The suspension is active. The SARC struts are unobtainable now. When thet get soft pull the fuse and it puts them into full hard.

I had a Toreador Red 97 SHO, it had aluminum sub frame bushings, removed the fuse for the SARC struts, removed the third cat, and had aftermarket mufflers, the sound was glorious when those secondaries opened up, and handled very well all things considered.
There really wasn’t much out there for these unless you were creative however there were some creative people out there, doing such things as: windstar final drive swap, vortech supercharger, using GM w body rear adjustable lateral arms to adjust for rear camber and toe, 5 speed swap, swapping this engine into a wagon or a gen 4 Taurus, m90 supercharger, etc.
The AX4N trans was just really not well geared (nor was it even a good trans) in my opinion for engine whos peak power was at 6100rpm and 4000rpm, respectively. The shift strategy wasn’t all that great as well as in the video when you try to get it to kick down in first and it stayed in second it really just was too low of an rpm for that engine to climb up out of.
I still miss mine, I’ll be watching.

I would love to have an SHO from this generation. This could be a stretch for some, but I look at the 96/99 Taurus as the 60/62 Valiant of today. I had one of those in red brand new. Mine was a company car, fully loaded and I drove it for 32,240 miles and they got me a truck. For the most part the car was a good car but it wasn't very refined transmission wise.
The motor was never an issue for the time I had it, and from what I heard it got wrecked by who ever took it after I had it. (Some of us got new cars every year or two, others drove them when they were handed down).
Power wise it was decent but nothing special, but I lived in a pretty hilly area then and there wasn't many places to open it up either. For me, it was just a stop gap between the Ford Explorer I had before it, and the 7.3L F350 4x4 that replaced it.

Nice ride. I'm a Ford fanatic, I've owned 2 Thunderbirds and a Ford Ranger plus I drove a Police Interceptor for almost 10 years as a cop. My Thunderbirds were a (96) LX coupe and a (88)Turbo Coupe and I loved both. The fact that you found a AARP brochure, probably meant that most of the time, a older person owned it and may have passed away. Try using a higher octane fuel in it and see if it runs better, also try a K&N air filter system.

I owned TWO 1992 Ford Taurus SHO's back in the late 90's early 2000's. My blue one was a 5-speed manual and my wife's at the time was a red automatic with all options! The automatics in 1992 i know kept on blowing speed shift sensors,,, in fact i had that one in the transmission shop at least 3 times... so i don';t recommend the automatic... but of course they may have fixed those problems by 1999. The 5-speed manual worked flawlessly... I think i had one clutch change in the 5 years i had it. I loved both of these cars and had great experiences with both! I know Ford run a commercial at one time in the early 90's with the SHO burning off the front tires :) (the 5-speed).

I miss my 1992 SHO it was a high revolution mustang killer. Only stang that smoked me was a camed out 4.6super charged but he had experience under his belt compared to my 20yr old self. The 6cyl was impressive.

I have a lovely black 97 sho. Getting some oil leaks fixed and brake lines redone now. It’s a looker from 15 ft away but I agree I NEVER see them this nice anymore.

I always wanted one of those Taurus SHOs from back in the day. They may not have aged well, but they're still cool.

If you ever read this. I drive a 120 HP Corolla that’s 22 years old. And it makes this look decently zippy. Not fast, but obviously has noticeably better acceleration and power.

That's so funny the acceleration was way less than we all expected! Cool car though. A.c. works! The previous owner probably loved it. Hope they are well and in a cooler faster car now!

Some old guy who sadly passed away and the kids didn't use it and parked it. I do understand as I did the same with mums car. It sat for about a year and then my niece got her license so she is now using it. Car was still under warranty and only 2500 on it. Lots more on it now, but at least it's being used.

On that throttle cable if that end is to small and will not catch on the slider part that goes inside the carb just find a washer that will fit inside the slider mechanism. Just cut a slot in the washer so it will slide onto the cable then it will all fit in place inside the slide mechanism inside the carb and it may stay inside that slider with the spring holding pressure on it. Or keep trying until you can find the right throttle cable, that's a classic for sure.

Randy, That’s the best year of this car to have. Not is it only the last year for the SHO but, it’s the Only Year to have that instrument cluster.

Randy, it has to have a CD player. You just need to find the slot. Does it have a changer in the Trunk?

You got a excellent deal on the 1999 SHO !!!! Wow! a bargain!! You might try contacting the late owners family to see if they have the maintenance records for the car.

I love that Taurus police interceptor all wheel drive you have. Been looking for one of those in my area for awhile. Finding a four wheel drive twin turbo one is hard to find in my area. Absolutely love the v 8 Taurus. And the 0to 60 times for the 1999 Ford Mustang Gt was 5.4 seconds. The Yamaha v8 Taurus would be cool to have to just add to my collection

    • @GMbowtie350
      @GMbowtie350 ปีที่แล้ว

No stock New Edge GTs were doing 5.4 seconds on a 0-60 run, I don’t care what you looked up. You can also look up Car and Driver’s reviews of the ‘99 Cobra which was 5.4 seconds and the Mach 1 which was 5.2. Had my fair share of those cars, a stock 2V 4.6 ain’t hitting 5.4. It’s just not possible.

That police vehicle came from Pennsylvania as I see them inspection & emission stickers they use on windshield. I had a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO & loved it but back then they had issues with the paint peeling on the bumpers showing yellow.

My dad had a plain '98 Taurus SE with the Vulcan V6 and culumn shifter. Made it 160K before the tranny went out in '04. That's what killed most of these cars. The dash started peeling on almost all of these things 4-5 years in. They had phenomenal AC though.

Nice sho taurus I always wanted it one, I would like to add I notice in the video the speedometer appears to jump little and idle and you say it's sluggish on first gear sounds like the vehicle speed sensor is on the way out its showing signs of it all taurus has this issue v6 and the v8 taurus. Great video by the way as well
