    Man I JUST bought a set of vintage carving tools for cheap cause they're all blunt and scuffed up. This is exactly what I needed!

    You said Work Sharp doesn't sponsor you, but they SHOULD. I'm totally new to this, and I am going trust what you say and the tools you use. I have already been to their site, and will be purchasing from them soon. I wouldn't know of them if I didn't see this great video. You have over 4K subscribers. If a small percentage of them use Work Sharp as their go-to as they take up carving, they will make a lot of money off of your videos.

    Thanks for the video. I have been using the Workshop 3000 for almost ten years. It is both useful and easily used. I share the observation that it would be better if the motor would turn both clockwise and counter clockwise. That would be the one thing I would like to see in this otherwise excellent machine.
    BTW: If memory serves, the glint of light that needs to be removed from the edge of a not-yet-sharp tool is called the "candle". I always thought that was a nice image.

      “Candle” how cool! Thanks for sharing your knowledge

    Good Morning Alec. Most of what you discussed about the Work Shop 3000 is pretty good in my opinion (IMO). Where we differ a bit is in your comment regarding the sharpening of the other side of a knife. The first time I used the Work Sharp 3000, I thought about it a little more, and as you probably discovered but did not mention in your video, all the user needs to do to sharpen the other side of the tool is to hold the knife handle either in front of or behind the center screw so the knife's handle is not in the way of that part of the machine while you are sharpening it. Of course it might feel somewhat awkward, but the machine can sharpen the other side of the knife that way. This is also true when sharpening a knife on any common sanding stone anyway as most already know.
    In the end though and like you did mention, it sure would be awesome if the user had the ability to reverse the rotation of so that the knife's handle at least still faces outward of the rotating disk. That way the user wouldn't have to perform the somewhat awkward sharpening position that currently exists for the opposite side of the knife - especially if your knife handle is big.

    I agree with most of what you demonstrate and I use
    the same techniques. Where we differ is using magnetic strips on the wall to organize tools. The magnets are handy, but look at the buildup of metal dust on your cutting edge when you are sharpening the v tool. That is annoying enough that I will skip the magnets. Thanks for sharing with the community!

    Great sharpening video. Perhaps a bit of grease on the gears of the reduction box would quiet them.

    Excellent video on sharpening. I have Chipping Aways strop machines that have helped me a lot. When I buy used carving tools I use sandpaper. I might buy the machine you have. I would rather be carvings than sharpening 😂

    Hello, I enjoy watching your videos, they are very informative. I need a carving knife. Can you please tell me the better brands and where I might purchase? I have a few but they are not very good. I have a very hard time working with basswood........so the knives aren't great. I appreciate your a.

    Hey Alec, question....I noticed a small knife sitting on the lower corner of your work sharp. It has a brass piece below the small blade like a chip carving blade and on the handle has a maker's mark. I have one exactly like that and have not been able to find out who the maker is. Could you tell me where you got that knife and who the maker is? Thank-you

    By not lifting your when you go from side to side doesn't that round the v of the tool? My phone picture is not very good so I can't see clearly the edges.

    • @AlecLaCasseArt
      @AlecLaCasseArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t round the v-tool, no! You need to spend an even amount of time on all surfaces of the edge and V-tool edge is actually two flat planes connected by a small U-Gouge. They are not actually perfect “V’s”
