I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Ofra during a visit to Los Angeles in 1993. I just wish the quality of the photos were better. However I did get a photo of the two of us together.
I heard Ofra Haza sing this song on that tour of US Jewish communities. A Jewish friend had brought me to the concert. I didn't understand a word but the beauty of the song and the singer stayed with me all these years. When I looked up Ofra Haza online last year, I found she had become a star -- and then had died. I grieve for your loss. Her many recordings are a consolation, but "Shecharchoret" I could not find -- until now. Thank you for posting this lovely, lovely song.
Ofra Haza is my all-time favorite singer. I was not alive in 1976 though, so would've never had a chance to see this live. You are very lucky to have seen Ofra perform before she became famous. :)

I can remember Ofra Haza when her Songs from Yemen came out; when she wore her traditional attire. When I first heard her sing, she was the first Israeli female vocalist I heard. From then on she became my favorite. As the saying goes: " You never forget your first girl". So when she died a piece of me went with her. May she rest in peace; and when her Mourner's Kaddish annually comes around, may we all take a few minutes to remember her and the contributions she made to her music.
Completely agree. She had such "universal", how to say, voice, that she could be undrestood in any country, without understanding language. JOY IS JOY, SORROW IS SOROW. Express true feeling, Singing Hebrew. As for me , Im Christian Russian. Heard her singing in old Kaveret. Thank you, Ofra. Thank you, Israel. Shma Israel!
This woman was very special. Nobody has forgotten her, she was an icon and still is today in Israel and elsewhere in the world. She did a lot with her talent by spreading the Jewish Yemenite culture with her songs all over the world and embracing the westerner culture in the same time. She was really one of the pionniers of World Music at a time music was not as mixed and cosmopolitan as today. Bless, bless her for it ❤️
One of the biggest losses of humanity. Ofra was simply an Angel among us. May the Lord give strength to her devastated family that are still mourning her absence. May She Rest In Peace. She was an advocate for Peace & She is & she will be always truly missed.
I read somewhere that this was the first song that Ofra recorded solo. That clear beautiful voice stops people in their tracks. Something very special. This dark girl shone like a galaxy of stars.
It's sad to discover the immense talent and soul of Ofra through her music only after her death. I'm thoroughly in love with her voice and I could have loved an angel.
According to the comments on Ofra's videos, If she was Israel's prime minister, the peace was already here long time ago :-) So much beauty in one woman... Thanks God for this gift. I will always love you, Ofra.
