    Always wondered what he looked like under the fur, not what I expected!

    I quite like the shorter fur version. He looks like a different member of Grizzlor's tribe. Maybe you could make a bunch with different fur colours and having a whole army of fuzzy dudes.

    • @Beedo_Sookcool
      @Beedo_Sookcool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shorter fur would be great for making a "Dark Grizzlor." I got the Dark Grizzlor variant when I was a kid, and didn't give it a second thought, until I saw other kids' Grizzlors were lighter and had WAY more fur.
      There will now follow a long list of tirades from Army-Building "Investors" complaining about how this will devalue their special hoard of Dark Grizzlors they've been accumulating over the last few decades so they can buy a mansion. 🤣

    I've done a bit of pattern matching for toys before and I'm impressed!
    A couple of tips about the fur tho: The length of the fur is called the pile and if you happen to get one a bit too long, you can trim it to size. Also when cutting it, best way to go about it is use an Xacto knife to minimize those little furry bits and lessen accidentally trimming the fur itself. Glad to see Grizzlor get a new pelt tho!
    EDIT: I made this comment before watching the whole thing, so I almost missed the second attempt with the longer fur. I think both look great, I kinda prefer the more defined proportions as opposed to the furry potato shape of the original. Again, well done!

    Fantastic results, playing around with various furs (colour and length)
    would work really well for army building as to me, each length of fur seems to affect the appearance of his age and size. The original figure looks like a large, dominant Grizzlor, while the curly fur has an adolescent look.
    A great way to add variety to the character.

    When you peeled him my first thought was he was overdesigned, but when you consider what kids are like and how many still have fur it's a brilliant self grasping anchor design since there's no glue involved.
    It's hard to find good fur cloth and difficult to sew, my Mum made me an Ewok costume for Halloween as a kid that was challenging. I loved Wicket and wore it off season for bit before putting it away. Actually got one more round out lending it to a friend again on Halloween as it no longer fit at that point lol. "Yub, nub." ;)

  • @CrabOfDoom
    @CrabOfDoom ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is indeed an excellent reproduction! A tip from vintage plush animal cleaning: nothing's going to fix the burnt fur, but for original Grizzlors that are just kind of matty from age or just been hand-washed? Get a small dog/cat brush with thin, wire bristles. Brush with the fur's grain with short, lift-away strokes, just to smooth it, then just muss it up gently with your fingertips. Do not use a hair dryer on this fur, nor put any toy with it in a clothes dryer, or it'll melt itself into a kinked-up wad. The wad can be brushed out again, with patience, but it will never be original again. Best to air dry and brush later. And of course, don't use the brush on your pets, once it's been used on toys.

    I was expecting Grizzlor to have the normal muscled torso like most of the other figures in the MOTU lines. He's very flat-chested for a hairy brute. 🤣His hairless head and face reminds me of a '60s THE OUTER LIMITS alien ("FUN AND GAMES").

    Amazing! Your ability to break down outfits and devise sewing patterns from originals always impresses me. And I agree that your newly furred Grizzlor looks a bit more screen-accurate! I do wonder if it's possible to run a comb through that fur and kind of "tease" it up to be a bit spikier, if you wanted a more toy-original look? But I don't think it's necessary-I prefer your version.

  • @squidjam

    One thing worth noting, take into consideration that the longer hair doesn't get cut along as you do cuts to the material supporting it.
    The longer the hair, the more care this will require.
    (And I also kinda like how it looks with shorter hair)

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I tried to move the fur to one side as I cut, same when I sewed it so it didn't get trapped. It's not easy to deal with for sure.

      @@toypolloi my cousin made a suit for a person (when he was a design student, like 20 years ago) made out of a material similar to this but bright red and longer hair. Well, I remember he would comb the hair and cut using an xacto knife (hobby knife? Scalpel like cutter?) from the part where the hair was.
      Maybe this tip is of help.

    amazing deconstruction! A tip for cutting furry fabric that I'm sure other people have mentioned; turn it over to the fabric (not fur) side and gently cut through it with a razor instead of using scissors! you won't slice through all the furry fibers!
