My dad is an Aeronautical Engineer, he was living in Maracay in those days. By the time the coup started, he was preparing some classes for his students about at 5 am, when he was surprised for the high supersonic boom from one of the loyal F-16 escaping from Maracay to Barquisimeto. That story is one of the most valuable things that my father shared to me, and we still remembering that each year. It's a great video, you won a new sub here. So many thanks for share the military aviation history of my country.
I witnessed the dog fight between the F16 and the Tucano on November 27th from my house in Caracas, very close (less than 300m) from El Palacio de Miraflores. This is what I remember seeing: there was this F16 going around the city. When it was North West of my location a Tucano approached the F16 from behind and shot at it first! I clearly saw the traces of fire coming from the propeller airplane! It probably missed because in the blink of an eye, the F16 was behind the Tucano and in no time to flashes of light came came from the the F16 and the Tucano started spewing black smoke. The Tucano left smoking more or less heading north. Immediately after that happened all the Broncos that were making the rounds to bomb El Palacio de Miraflores left.
I remember the sound of the Broncos engine early that day, then the sound of the F16, at the end of the afternoon-night only the sound of the F16 could be heard.
I remember that like it was yesterday I was 11 years old. I was standing on the top floor of my house and I saw a mirage III and an f16 fly at full speed one after the other. It was 7 am that day after like At 10 am I saw a Super Puma helicopter shoot towards the base and that's when it came out in bronco or ov 10. Later I saw how the f16 stalked the bronco until I saw on tv that the f16 shot down the bronco in Caracas. The f16 never fired missiles. They say that he did not have the permission to use any type of missiles because it was already an unequal fight. NOTE I still live near the Libertadores air base about 4 km, about 2.4 miles. It all ended around 6 pm after some tanks arrived light and took the base. I remember hearing 21 cannon shots
I watched this myself. Let me correct the location. This happened in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. The Bronco OV-10 (rebel) attacked the Air Force Military base "Vicente Landaeta Gil". The 2 F-16s ( Loyal) circled, like lions, around the city, but refrained to attack inside of it, as they feared civilian casualties. I personally saw both the F16's and the Bronco OV-10 maneuvering inside the city. It was terrifying
As an American relative to an uncle who mined gold there when Hugo Chavez came to power. He just bought brand new mining equipment, but had to leave and suffer the financial loss. The Chavez take over was very unsafe for any American business to continue operating there. I have been told on multiple occasions that political leadership in central and South American countries, is known for skimming the profits from private companies operating in the region. They sadly do not realize that their countries would be successful if only they would let companies prosper, then allow those companies to distribute the wealth appropriately.
Great video! I, as a venezuelan, didn't know that the coup extended to Barquisimeto and had so many aircrafts and types of aircraft involved, quite a big theater of ops, for a coup. Amazing that you provided such great context on the FAV up to that point. Every time I hear the sound of the F-16 I'm transported to where I lived in the capital Caracas because the approach to Fuerte Tiuna for the air parades was just above my house. You just can't forget the feeling of F-16s and Su-30s passing above you in formation below 2000ft. Raw POWER.
It is kind of surrealist to see a re-enactment of something one lived through. Lucky you. I lived very close to Miraflores. The first rocket attack to the palace cafeteria nonetheless, from either a Bronco or Tucano, blew many windows from the residential building across the street. To this day I remember the panic of the people from that building running away and the Broncos flying in a circle dropping bombs.

I was in Caracas in those days... I saw in first hand all those events... I saw the broncos diving over Miraflores palace and f16 pursuit them.... I didn' t saw the Mirage... all that from my apartamentos balcony in el Paraíso neighborhood
I'm Venezuelan American, I lived this, minute by minute, I lived in Santa Rosa de Lima, at 2 or 3 am I was woke up by the sound of a helicopter landing at Valle Arriba golf club, then I received a call from a friend: turn the tv on he said, then I saw four criminals announcing the coup, after killing innocent unarmed tv technician and neighbors at Channel 8 TV station, moments later, we started hearing the shootings, and the brave reports from the other channels newscasters. Like at 6 am we started to hear the sound of the jets, and the bombardment over La Carlota Airbase. All windows rumbling from the explosions. So I went to my balcony and started to see live the dog fight, at one time, one of the Broncos passed so low that I saw the pilot face, I thought he was going to crash in one of the buildings, after the OB10 passed by, I saw the F16 chasing the OV10, As a skydiver, I would guess they were flying at 200 to 300' AGL. This was the beginning of the end of democracy in Venezuela.
I have to admit that I don't have any deep knowledge about that conflict but I will put it on my 'to research' list and should I find interesting events that include aircraft available in DCS, I might cover it someday. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@showtime112 yeah you should check it out, specially it is a fight between russian made migs against chinese copy migs ft libyan air force. I think it falls under invasion of kagera
12:37 Slow and maneuvrable didn't save the Tucano. That's how any fight would go between virtually any pre-1950/2nd WW fighters, especially the piston-engined ones, and modern jets like, say, from the F-86 onwards.
Can you make a video about the Caldas Corvette Crisis of 1987 between colombia and Venezuela, where venezuelan F-16s and Colombian Mirages Vs where deployed, but no combat was made
Good research, as a Venezuelan you did a good job with the info you gathered, I also liked how you did a little "reenactment" of what happened using this wonderful simulator. Probably this isn't much interesting to share but both my parents where there when this exact dogfight was happening, as it was visible from very far away. Thank goodness they were far away. On the good side, I imagine that would have been a very interesting date for my mother (my parents were dating back then). Good thing too my dad retired the airforce 10 years before this happened, even though he wasn't a pilot nor had an "interesting" role of sorts.
Geez men, thanks for doing it! Very very interesting piece of history here. There was a couple of strafes in Caracas made by the broncos, but I’m assuming you didn’t add it because it wasn’t an a2a combat. I’m honored as a Venezuelan as your work
Thanks! I am especially glad to hear that people from Venezuela appreciate this. Broncos did attack several targets in Caracas and the main reason why this wasn't shown is because we don't have the proper map and no building on the Caucasus map looks like the Presidential palace, or some other specific locations.

I was 8 years old when this happened... I lived near Fuerte Tiuna and I remember clearly the airplanes flying over, and while this reenactment is not 100% accurate, trust me, it is close enough anyway. Thanks for doing this dude, I wasn't expecting this video on my feed and I am positively surprised. I have a question: If Labarca managed to shot down 3 airplanes, does that make him an Ace? Thanks again dude, great video
Thanks for the feedback and for sharing personal experience. As for your question, ace status is given to pilots who shoot down five or more aircraft. Of course, today there's not much opportunity for something like that but there's no change in the definition (which dates back form WWI).
Once the Bronco was released I had a feeling you'd be covering this event. Great job as usual, the gear down on the bronco during the dogfight was some nice attention to detail. What happened to those pilots after the elections? Again, great stuff.
Thanks for the positive feedback! I had to insert the gear down somehow since it is so obviously visible on the original footage. I'm not sure about the destiny of the pilots who were capture. I suppose they were persecuted for their role in the coup but then, Chavez became the president a few years later and they were probably pardoned. Maybe even promoted. Maybe some of the Venezuelan viewers can give us details.
tengo entendido que todos o la gran mayoría de golpistas fueron insultados antes de que chavez llegara a la presidencia, así fue como chavez salió de la carcel
@@showtime112 why was his landing gear down? The first thing that came to my mind was that that was his way of admiting defeat and deciding go back to landing
@@alexisXcore93 maybe he was tring to slow down the aircraft even more for the F16 to overshoot the pass as in the original footage the f16 almost stalled because of slow speed.
@@showtime112 That´s the true, Major Magallanes was promoted to Brigadier General by the time I was in the Military service in the Military Aviation from 2015 - to 2017, he was the Commander of the Air Base (BAVALLE) I was First Corporal in the Air Police Squadron (EPABAVALLE). He is a very charismatic guy, usually visited and ate along with the troops and was always willing to help anyone who was facing issues. He also became an SU-30 Mk2 Pilot and member of the No. 11 Fighter Air Group (Los Diablos) a very strange choice because that Air Group in particular was in another Air Base in the center of the country.

The actual video of this is CRAZY
It's a very rare thing to see such an incident captured on video. It seems to be edited, I wish we just had the whole thing.
Porque no lo grabaron en Español. En Venezuela no se habla inglés.
obvio que es porque este canal es en ingles que se dedica a documentar los combates aereos en TODO EL MUNDO sin importar el idioma
Crazy stuff. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
The story is certainly one of a kind. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Baš sam neki dan gledao taj okršaj između F-16 i OV-10 na yt. HVALA!
Nema na čemu. Ovo je stvarno bila dosta specifična i zanimljiva situacija. Kod pučeva obično nema zračnih duela.
I was in Caracas in those days... I saw in first hand all those events... I saw the broncos diving over Miraflores palace and f16 pursuit them.... I didn' t saw the Mirage... all that from my apartamentos balcony in el Paraíso neighborhood
The real life video is also out there right? I believe I've seen it.
Yes, a very rare case of a dogfight that was caught on video.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience!
Soundtrack??
There is a name of the song and performer in the video description, I can't remember exactly.
Love your videos. Thanks for putting in the time. I have a question.. are you a pilot? Just curious
Thanks! I have no real world flying experience (except being a passenger).
@@showtime112 thanks for answering.
plzz do Uganda-Tanzania War
I have to admit that I don't have any deep knowledge about that conflict but I will put it on my 'to research' list and should I find interesting events that include aircraft available in DCS, I might cover it someday. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@showtime112 yeah you should check it out, specially it is a fight between russian made migs against chinese copy migs ft libyan air force. I think it falls under invasion of kagera
As I understand it is the only filmed jet fight in history - there are amateur videos of it from the ground, including the kill
Not including gun camera footage, I think that might be correct.

Slow and maneuvrable didn't save the Tucano. That's how any fight would go between virtually any pre-1950/2nd WW fighters, especially the piston-engined ones, and modern jets like, say, from the F-86 onwards.
Tucano is supposed to operate in an environment without any enemy fighters. But essentially, the jet fighter can dictate the terms.
Saludos desde Venezuela , buen video
Have things gotten any better over there?
Gracias, I'm glad you liked it!
Interesting stuff, yet this is like 3 decades ago. I love you content for covering air combats.
Thanks for commenting!
@@showtime112 no problem.
They needed a secondary element in the strafing attacks. That element will neutralize any AA battery's. Two passes and then find something else to do.
Can you make a video about the Caldas Corvette Crisis of 1987 between colombia and Venezuela, where venezuelan F-16s and Colombian Mirages Vs where deployed, but no combat was made
Thanks for the suggestion. I generally don't depict incidents without actual combat, except in some rare cases but who knows.
Thank you very much for commenting and sharing your personal experience!
Epico
82ND AIRBORNE
That one Mirage was scraping paint off the Buildings!!
Well, some of the witness accounts from the ground sounded pretty dramatic so I tried to make them look that way :)
Most of these guys now are living in the Doral section of Miami
The guys that took part in the coup?
Must be freaky watching your own air force fighting itself!
Dude, seriously, why aren't you showing the video from the AOO
There are a couple of videos from this conflict but people can find them on other channels. This is more of a reenactment, not re-upload.
@@showtime112 Are you kiddin me? I just was mindblown realizing that this video exist and was made by a norh american. Thank you, from Caracas.
@ A European, rather than a North American 😁
Amazing video, nice animations, and true facts
Thanks, glad you feel this way!
Thank you very much for commenting and for sharing your experience. It must have made a strong impression to a boy of that age.
82ND AIRBORNE
Wow!! That Paint scheme on the F-16 is Hotter than Georgia Asphalt!!
Camo schemes on F-16s are extremely rare. Makes you realize how boring grey ones really are 😁
I was 8 years old when this happened...
Ingeniously researched and great presented! Respect! Thank you for you great work!
Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate it.
The Vipers had a challenge with the Tuc & Bronco.
Three of the four OV-10s shot down that day were ex-US Air Force OV-10As acquired in 1991, so the use of OV-10As in this video is mostly accurate.
Thank you for contributing!
Just an observation, by the time of this coup, all Mirages had been updated to Mirage 50s.
Thanks for contributing details.
Just one thing f16 only was armed with gun no missiles
11:40 aside from looking out for the "slow and manoeuverable part", it must have felt like swatting a fly out of the sky.
Probably. As long as the slow plane is maneuvering hard, it's a pretty hard target.
