Thanks for this review. There is a serious lack of laser printer reviews to be found ANYWHERE on the internet. And since this is the only review I found, I am... literally gonna buy this because of that.
It's been many years later, and I still use this printer for printing class materials or materials in bulk! I don't use it to print stickers anymore, but I have also used it to print booklets and zines. It's moved across country and sat in a non climate controlled house that received hurricane damage for a month after Hurricane Ida. I would say it's a tough lil toner printer- the main issue I've found with consumer grade toner printers is the heating element tends to give out if you use it constantly, but this one has held up!
Finally a review with examples, such as prints of your comics. It was really useful to me, I also purchased this printer, following your review, to create water-based decals for model making and stickers. It has yet to arrive, but seeing how your graphics print I think I will be satisfied. Thanks for the review and congratulations again on how you made it.
I stumbled across your review whilst looking for a review of the M254DW. None of the other reviews from the "expert" sites really concentrated on the colour performance so thank you very much. You've convinced me that it's time to switch from Inkjet to Laser as another one has just clogged up on me. :)
@0:49 "You agreed and your partner comprised to buy an auto duplex machine" Laser jet pro= Technology M= Print (means it prints only, can not scan) 200series = Personal (faster, higher quality) 50-74= color series D= Duplex w= wireless
Thank you for taking the time to share such helpful information! While it's commonly available to anyone who Googles the product, having it in a handy place along side a regular user review is sure to help others.
Very nice. If I could make one suggestion, if you have the ability to connect the printer through usb or ethernet vs wifi, it will eliminate any wireless hiccups that might occur during your heavy print jobs!
Hey! Thanks so much for the video. Been really considering a laser printer rather than inkjet for my art. I see it’s been a few years since you made this video, I’m curious if your printer still works? since apparently laser printers tend to typically have more longevity.
I've had a few experiences with hp; mostly negative. I got an hp printer, but it was not properl;y working so we sent it back. They sent us a referbished printer instead of a new one and again we sent it back and eventually got a new one. Later, my mom got one, was having trouble (I think it was like the paper jam problem), and hp just kept giving ways to try and fix it. My mom gave up and returned it and bought an Epson instead.
Automatic Duplex means that you can print two sided without having to flip over the page yourself, you stated that it prints on both sides of the paper at the same time, that's not true, the printer automatically turns the paper over to print, so its only printing on one side at a time. Each toner cartridge has one imaginging drum, so its not possible for both sides of the paper to make contact with it at the same time.
Hey Quick Update! My prints were all skewed! And also all the Scans! And also the Toners are very very very expensive! I returned mine and got my money back and ordered the Brother DCP-L8410CDW! I am thrilled because it is way way better!
See if you have Wake on LAN - This will keep you printing when the laptop snoozes (but sometime it doesn't work for wireless). If that doesn't work then just go to power options under the control panel and make the computer stay awake. Nice review. Thx.
Did you have to calibrate your printer at all? My prints don't really match up to what I seen nor compared to stickers print from like sticker mule. Thank you
Una duda cuando se me acabe un toner de color, ¿puedo seguir imprimiendo aunque sea en blanco y negro (claro bajo el supuesto que aún tengo tinta negra ) o ya no me deja imprimir?
Great review 🙏 I am currently considering purchasing a family member of this printer, M255dw and would like to get your comment/s about its photo printing quality. Not looking for professional performance. Had a bad experience with one other color led laser, Brother DCP-L3551CDW. Many thanks in advance.
Ironically I have just replaced my Brother with an HP because the Brother ate it's own fuser. Within 30,000 pages (or near 20,000 in my case) the fuser will fail due to design and manufacturing flaws. I have always used Brother laser printers but the colour lasers do not have the best quality around or the greatest reliability (I have replaced many parts) so I am hoping the HP CLJ does better. Photo quality on a colour laser should be good on even plain paper, HP colour toner is very glossy and shiny. I think HP do specialist laser photo paper (not inkjet paper which of course doesn't work in a laser).
I just ordered this printer and I’m have issues with the ink lifting on laser label paper with a white matte finish. Other things the print is grabbing down the page. Any suggestions bc I know absolutely nothing about printers…
Hello - Just wondering if you're having any issues with saturation in your photos. I'm printing in the glossy presentation format and they still look a little 'light' to me.
Hi there! This was such a good review! Thanks so much for this! Does this work for foiling, I really need the info asap! How does it work with heavier card-stock like 220gsm /110 lb ? It says it can in the specs for hp papers. Would really really appreciate an answer asap 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 As the deal may end soon ☺️
An excellent real life review. I'm a bit surprised you went through one black cartridge on the first day. It comes with cartridges that are rated for 800 pages: you must have printed a lot of pages with a lot of black ink on them?
I was probably printing zines and mini comics, so yeah, a lot of black ink! Plus a lot of pages- if I'm printing Lilliputian Living for example, that's about sixty pages, front and back for one zine. If I'm printing ten copies, that's almost one cartridge right there! (Dang, I need to make shorter zines :
Do you still use this printer and would you be able to print on card stock? I'm sorry if you've mentioned this later in the video, I haven't watched all yet.
The DW stands for duplex+wireless. Those are not high yield cartridges. All cartridges that end in an A are normal, high yield end with an X. I used to have this printer but ended up moving to the M452 because they don't make actual high yield cartridges for the 254, and couldn't justify spending $400 on toner regularly just to get a small yield, and then got a separate cheap monochrome laser for doing my black and white load. So much cheaper keeping the monochrome separate from color. Can just use cheap aftermarket cartridges in the monochrome... like $15 per cart. I would never use aftermarket in the M254 or M452 though, since it voids the warranty.
While it comes with the standard yield out of box it looks like you can get high yield for the printer unless I'm reading this wrong store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Merch/Supplies.aspx?q=T6B60A&type=productp&model=HP-Color-LaserJet-Pro-M254dw-Toner
@@JacobArthurA That's pricey 550 dollars for all colors, but is that canadian? Probably? Printer might be cheap but the colors still cost a lot. But better than ink for a home user who prints a few pages every now and then. You buy the ink and print your few pages and next time you try to print the ink is dry.
@pixelbat I see these are high yield cartridges: www.amazon.co.uk/GPC-Image-203X-CF540X-M281fdw-M254dw-MFP/dp/B07W417NXG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8. And reviewers say works perfectly with M254DW.
FYI, if your pet rabbit chewed through the network cable and severed it, you would have problems with printer communication. Same goes for wireless... if your laptop turns off the wireless card when it goes to sleep, you're going to have an interruption in the print job especially if the printer has not received all of the data needed to finish. Thats not really a caveat, but more so just how wireless technology works.
This printer (and the other small toner printer I've owned) both refuse to run cardstock! I'd love to use colored cardstock for zine covers, print lineart for alcohol markers on marker paper, or even print lineart for watercolor on 90lb w/c paper, and this printer will not run any of these.
I've only used this printer to print text, comics, and lineart, so there isn't a lot of fidelity necessary for a clean print. I would say it prints grayscale a little bit darker than a dye based home printer, but I'm quite satisfied with the quality for printing mini comics, zines, and class notes!
Thanks for the video. If HP is cheating us by putting 10% of toner in the cartridges, then we need to buy compatible replacement toners. This is what I'm doing. Very cheap and high quality. This is weird. The toner material is very cheap. The cartridge itself is the expansive part, so why to provide empty cartridges? Of course, to reduce the price of the printer for competition, and then to get the money back through very expansive replacement cartridges. Buy compatible.
