There is a reason why the characters are drawn with five fingers instead of four in the japanese versions.
There is a gangster group or Yakuza in japan, which they cut off fingers or knuckles as a punishment. In children's media such as this book and Many other CHildren's TV shows, Characters are drawn with five fingers so children wouldn't think they were involved with the Yakuza.
